Anfield, Boxing Day 1986. Kevin Moran goes in hard on Dalglish while Rush, Olsen, and Whiteside look on, United won 1-0 with a goal from Big Norm.
1974 again. West Ham players celebrate a goal in a 2-1 win for the home side. I recognise Clyde Best, Brooking, but I can't tell if the player in front of Buchan is Bonds or Taylor,
One of my worst memories of watching United. December 1972 and we lost 0-5 at Selhurst Park.
Lady with the rattle and the blokes with the hats set the moment.
Old Trafford as it was in August 1964. United run onto the pitch for the season opener against West Brom.
Coppers looked older and fatter in those days especially from the Met.In 1974, many of us were wondering what novel experiences the 2nd Division would hold. On opening day at Brisbane Road, the Red Army turned up in strength to find out. It was pretty much business as usual.
Now they look like they could be in the TA.Coppers looked older and fatter in those days especially from the Met.
Looks like we had some right little rascals supporting us then.Coppers looked older and fatter in those days especially from the Met.
Some tall one's too!Looks like we had some right little rascals supporting us then.
Unsure where this was taken. My guess is the 1977-78 season. Could be at St Andrews. Anyway, Paddy Roche is in goal and that looks like Pancho wearing the number 11. Surely not!
Blimey, no wonder I'd forgotten this match. It's a 5-1 defeat at Birmingham in '78. We had tried to sign Coventry 'keeper Jim Blyth about the same time. He failed his medical. Gary Bailey made his debut v Ipswich the week after this match (against Ipswich - 2-0 - I do remember that game.)
No 11 is Mcilroy.
A rare photo of Alex Stepney winning his solitary England cap against Sweden in 1968. It was an era of great English goalkeepers and Stepney, excellent as he was, was behind Banks and Bonetti in the pecking order.
October 1976 and we had three aways on the trot: City (won 3-1), Leeds (won 2-0) and WBA (lost 0-4). I've still no idea how it happened and I was there that day.
Why is there a giant alphabet in the background of the photo? I'm expecting a giant Carol Vordermann to stroll towards it.
Ah. That's a scoreboard. HT scores were manually put up on it. Each letter corresponded to a team identified in the match programme.
McCalliog against United in the 1969 (0-0).
Stepney, Kiid, Charlton (United); Hugh Curran and Mike Bailey (Wolves) also pictured.
Hugh Curran was a United junior too!
I don't remember seeing one of these back then. Is it a replica or a modern invention? I do remember seeing punks with "Hitler-European Tour" tees but not one for us. Anyone know?
Very nice shot
Never saw one of these. The 'tour' line font looks different from the rest.
This one is great.
