Australia vs India

OMG, a million more cricket fans in India for atleast five more days.

Good win.

If only we had held out in the last test, we could've been looking at a series win.

Some nice stats:

Again we are the ones to stop Aussies winning streak of 16 wins.

Last time they lost on home was against us as well 5 years ago.

First sub continental team to win at Perth.

Woohoo, I'm feeling well kicked because of this. You all can buy chocolates on me. :)

A special mention for Ishant, that one spell he bowled to Ponting was mesmerizing. Had him in knots for 7 overs before getting him out.

Yes. That was grand. I kept waking up in between the night to see the match.

Since India's disastrous tour in 1991-92, the teams have met 21 times in Test cricket; the numbers now stand at 10-8 in Australia's favour. In the corresponding period Australia's record stands at 27-9 against England, 12-2 against Pakistan, 15-4 against South Africa and 9-1 against Sri Lanka.

They are coming to India this year as well. We will hammer the twats.

Let's not get carried away. We're still losing the series 2-1.

I haven't exactly seen much of Australia recently but how is their bowling unit performing, especially now that they are without McGrath & Warne?

They will obviously still have decent bowlers but the two mentioned were legends of the game and they don't come around that often. Australia will still probably be the dominant team for the near future but I think they might not be as consistent and maybe not win as many games, certainly not as comfortably.

Who is going to rise up though? India have some top class batter but how long have they got in them now? Pak have been going forwards & backwards from a year before the WC although when all are fit have a good bowling attack. England? SA? I don't see anyone else standing up.

Don't want you to get me wrong, I'm not predicting a sudden downturn for them, this is the first time they have lost in however many matches and years down-under.

Lee and Clark are brilliant bowlers but it ends there. Johnson's mediocre. They don't have a decent spinner and Shaun Tait must be much better normally I'm guessing but he was atrocious in this test.

Johnson is pretty good IMO. Ponting makes him go through a lot of overs and he is always threatening. Just needs to make the batsmen play a bit more but I think he is more than good enough to be our 3rd choice quikck.

Biggest problem I have with our bowling is Ponting rarely uses Clark for some stupid reason. Lee has been amazing since becoming the leader of the bowlers. Some of his spells have been immense.

In terms of quick bowlers we have plenty but our spinners are rubbish. Symonds and Pup will have to do for now.

Im not too worried by the Perth test as we had a few decisions go against us and we were playing our most inexperienced team in 15yrs probably.

Good victory but I just wish someone would tell the media to shut the feck up.It's still 2-1.If we win at Adelaide I'll dance on the streets too, not now ffs.

And the ODI team doesn't have Dravid or Ganguly, which is a bitch.

It is rather thin looking...they're banking a lot on Raina, Sehwag, Dhoni and Yuvraj firing. If they do, well and good, otherwise we're fecked.Dravid would've provided that experience and class. They're not treating him right, these bastard selectors.

Uthappa needs to be brought into the Test team IMO.Maybe against SA at home.

don't know that india can spare the 15 or so overs dravid would need to face to reach double figures (ok alittle exaggerrated but he has been very slow in how he has gone about scoring)

on a quick note, mitchell johnson now has a test batting average of 99 by my count

Nonsense, he's been one of our fastest scorers in the last few years, ironically. He scored a 30 ball 50 or something like that against England in the summer.

Johnson is nothing special, likes of Gillespie in the past were a lot better than him.
Clark is just poor man's Mcgrath, would do well for you but would never be a bowler opposition will fear. Lee is stepping up now.

Good show by the Indians. They looked the better team almost through the game. Quite a few positives. Sehwag's coming back (hopefully), Ishant Sharma's emergence and best of all the return of the only genuine allrounder we've had for ages - the Pathan!!

Would be great if we could keep this up and square the series in Adelaide but if don't, it doesn't detract from a great victory in tough circumstances.

England said the same thing before he tore them apart last summer.

I think a lot of teams would worry about him these days. Probably taken more wickets than any other of our bowler in the past couple of years even though Ponting hardly uses him :wenger:

Does anyone know why Johnson gets the nod over Clark for the new ball?

Always thought it was bit silly.

Especially considering Johnson is better when bowling with the old ball.

He is too wide to bowl with the new ball. Clark and Lee making batsmen play every ball for the first 18 overs would be trouble for most teams.

seconded, I can see a potential upgrade to McGrath if he continues to develop. How old is he?

I was quite pleased when he didnt play in the first 2 tests. Who is getting dropped for Harbajahan?
Jaffer probably. We'll probably open with Sehwag and Pathan or maybe Dravid will move up. We've got to go with 5 bowlers for this one. Stake everything on a win.

Clark's a great find. As the commentators were saying - his averages in test cricket are actually better than in first class. Only issue is his age. 32+ I think. Probably only got a couple of years more in him and that too at a declining pace. The Aussies have got to resurrect and persevere with Tait if they want a genuinely scary attack.

Harbhajan would come in for Ishant.

Jaffer may get dropped for Karthik. No way either Pathan or Dravid will open in netx match.

Clark continue to develop? He's old and not a scratch on McGrath. Came to prominence and cemented his place in the Aussie team during the ashes didn't he? I don't think of him as anything special - he's a good decent effective bowler and does take a fair number of wickets. I don't know about him being a strike bowler though.

The only Aussie bowler I would fear is Lee at the moment. Tait is quick but as often with many young pace bowlers a bit wayward and he is definitely inconsistent. If they can sort his potential and channel it properly then they may have a decent bowler on their hands. He reminds me of Sami (Pakistan) - this probably isn't a good thing, both of them haven't developed as expected in the last year or two or even three for Sami.

I haven't seen Johnson.

I'm not sure if I want to see us go in with 5 bowlers for this final test. Leaving jaffer out might be a good idea but maybe karthik should come in for him.
