Australia tour of India - 4 tests

It's pleasant to read his interviews.

Previously, we'd get smacked 4-0 and listen to some bizarre alternate reality press conference from Dhoni about "processes going well" and things like that. The previous regime took itself too seriously. People want to read a simple analysis of what went wrong and Kohli's been very balanced.

Having said that, I imagine there are some places under scrutiny. Good forms of 2-3 batsmen + lower order contributions has masked deficiencies in the top order. Some players like Rahane, Rahul and Vijay now need to find consistency.

Rahane was awesome till recently. Easily our best batsmen since his debut, with Kohli overtaking him this season.

I am Rahane's biggest fan, but he's been a bit rubbish too often in the sub-continent.

He was outstanding in all the away tours.

Really weird. I've followed his career in domestic for a long time, and always thought he'd bully at home. Don't think our current crop of batsmen are great against spin and that's probably the biggest problem we face in India.

I think our issues from the past against pace were so overstated that the new generation, whilst more than capable against the fast bowlers, have not acquired the skills to play against the turning ball.

Watched the highlights on youtube. Why was the stadium so empty looking?
In test cricket there is not much crowd when India is not batting, especially on weekdays. India anyway batted for far too less time in this test. In the stand I was sitting, there was very little crowd on 3rd day morning when Australia were batting but closer to lunch many joined in. Again, as soon as India lost 5-6 wickets, many of these left. If match had gone into 4th day with India say only 2-3 down with Kohli there, Sunday would have seen lot more crowd.
Plus heat was the factor. Except South end, no stand has cover and Sun was right in the face or above head for virtually whole day.

Seems like another woeful pitch for this season. Unpredictable bounce already.

Twice in row Kohli goes offering no shot. Both times to spinners nonetheless.

What was Kohli doing there :/... this pitch is turning shit loads already

I grew tired of the "nice Garry" gimmick during the Australian summer but I'll say it anyway, nice Garry.

Horrible batting from everyone except Rahul. The new generation of India is very mediocre against good spin. I am not sure if it is technique only. To me it is more about intent and approach. To fight it out. They are always too desperate to score. Seems to me it hurts their ego giving away few maidens and just knocking for odd singles even when bowler is on top. Technique is bit of problem though but not so serious that it can't be corrected with right approach.

What has happened to Indian batsmen vs spin? They used to dominate them, even guys like Warne used to get tonked by them.

I think you're spot on and it's not just the Indian batsmen. Too many modern batsmen get twitchy when the scoreboard is not moving quickly.

Those were the days when any top spinner in a Ranji team was as good as the best spinners from NZ, SA, Eng etc. Right now in India itself there is a dearth of good spinners, batsmen are not tested as well in domestic competitions as they used to be. Someone like Jadeja has a couple of 300s in domestic cricket and has not made a score of note yet in international cricket.

Yeah, low patience levels is common theme in modern Cricket and will continue to be there. What happens though when it is about spin is, the visitors give Ashwin and Jadeja respect due to their success and are prepared to battle out. Sometimes few still play rash shots and they hvnt been much successful anyway but they try. I doubt India's players want to do that in India vs visiting spinners, maybe because they are in own backyard. It hurt vs England when they had 2 good spinners in Swann and Panesar and it may happen against Australia this time.
I think Kohli prior to first test said that England were India's toughest test of season, indirectly indicating they don't see Australia as tough test.

Hilarious seeing all the Indian batsman adjust their technique to combat SOK, then get absolutely destroyed by Lyon hahaha

Mentality of the Indian batsmen need to change, need to apply and stay longer in the pitch, with the line Australian bowlers bowling runs wouldn't be easier to come by but once you stay longer and keep focused it wouldn't be any difficult.

I can only assume we requested turning pitches. They were fine during the England series.

Ashwin is perhaps the worst decision reviewer ever. Ok, you might get it wrong here and there, but this idiot asks for a review with such supreme confidence

No way in hell will Australia be able to chase 160-170 on this pitch in the 4th innings.

Aus 163/5 atm.
India won't even get to 100 imo with the way this pitch is falling apart atm, so if we can get a lead in excess of 75, then we might only be chasing 25 or so. A lead of 100 and I doubt we are batting again.

Why has Ashwin looked toothless this series on these pitches?
