Australia tour of India - 4 tests

Kohli is a bit of a dick - no doubt about it...kind of like Ganguly. Someone not willing to take a step backwards or conform to how others expect Indians to 'behave'. In fact, Kohli acts like a lot of the aussies...might be why so many of them cant stand him

Equally...there is no doubt to date, Smith has had the far better test career (they're about the same age and have played just about the same amount of tests)

But...over the last 18 months Kohli has elevated his test batting and I think that average is going to rise quite a bit in the next couple of years.

However...he is anything but a mental midget...in fact, I think his will/mindset is one of his biggest strengths. The guy simply doesn't quit, hates losing and demands the best from himself and those around him.

There are plenty of matches when he has played massively important knocks.

*I say this as a non-Indian.

Agree with this. I wouldn't go on to declare either miles better than the other in any format. Kohli's mental strength is one of his forte and at the same time his petulance is reason for others to dislike him. Overall, it's not definitive, Kohli better in limited overs cricket at the moment and Smith better in Tests. For a critical big match moment, I have no idea how one can shun the idea of having Kohli so easily as it's pretty much what he has been good at in the recent past.

I think it's quite ugly how certain groups of people are ganging up and trying to bully one person in this thread.

You can kind of understand though...it is natural for people to have a bit of inbuilt bias...be they Indians or Australians - but, 'mental midget' was so far out there...people were always going to react harshly.

Bangladesh against India in the T20 WC was an example of an entire team of chokers and mental midgets.

To equate Virat Kohli with anything in the same ballpark is asinine.

Australians leave it on the field though.

Kohli wants to run his mouth to the media thats the reason why he gets hated.

If any Australian cricketer calls the opposition a cheat in the media as well as say they are insulting a phyio they would get slammed by our media and fans.

Kohli is a dick and I can see why opposition team players hate him but to call him a mental midget shows an acute level of not knowing Cricket.

He's one of the greatest chasers of all time. You can't achieve that with being a mental midget.

That's a myth. Warner punching Root and Hayden calling India a third world country are examples of that.

As I said, Kohli acts like a dick but there's no doubt in my mind that the Aussies hate him but they can't stand someone else sledging them.

Next time when a person makes a stupid point, maybe we should just ignore it and just move on. Forums will cease to work.

As if.

Right now, not sure if you are aware, but apart from the players there's a massive tension between the media of both the nations, and that's come straight from the journalists covering this whole saga. Someone mentioned something along the lines of a cold war atmosphere and both the media will back anything done by their players, be it accusing someone of cheating or.. actually cheating.

Smith did cheat. He was caught on national television. There is no if about it so I don't get all the outrage that he's referred to as such. The only question is whether he cheated once or twice or multiple times. Given Kohli was watching them like a hawk it's probably not the first time it has happened.

Warner got slammed by our media and Australian fans as well as getting fined and suspended.

And Hayden also got slammed by the media as well

Aussies can handle sledges what we dont like are players who always complain to the media (Kohli), hypocrites who say they are clean but are just as bad as us (Ganguly and the stories I have heard about him)

Steve Smith has been very diplomatic against someone who is cracking up more then the fat Spanish waiter.

Our media has been pretty good apart from one player who is always running is mouth and trying to antagonize the opposition and has failed in every way so far as well as being a massive failure with the bat.

I'm sorry when did Kohli say that he was not involved in sledging? Or when did Ganguly say that?

Is it really a surprise that two Indian cricketers who actually sledges the Aussies are called all sort of things by Australian media?

Love how you think that Kohli is failing because Aussie media wound him up, they tried that in the last Australian series too including Johnson and Haddin and Kohli ended up pwning the Aussie bowling in that series.

If you can dish it then you have got to take it. Aussies don't seem to know that.

Australia caught India cold and there were no verbals in the first test but started in the second one.

Kohli is doing everything he can to put Australia off and it has failed in every way so far.

If Smith did half the stuff Kohli did this series everyone would be up in arms.

Your media has compared Kohli to Trump

Kohli hasn't cheated yet. So there's that I suppose. I wonder of the brain fade excuse would be so readily accepted if he did it?

Kolhi did well when our pitches were so flat they were the main reason why Johnson quit

And ganguly spent all time going on about "ugly Australians" but was just as much of a cnut as everyone else.

I said Kohli is failing because he has spent too much think about us and Smith and not focusing on batting, His sledges and media talk have had the opposite effect really as its water of a ducks back for us but added pressure for him.

So one article.

Most of our media has been pretty subdued due to a lot of reasons. Most of our tv coverage has been just as subdued.

Kohli hasn't cheated yet. So there's that I suppose. I wonder of the brain fade excuse would be so readily accepted if he did it?
He uses drs as well as Shane Watson so yeah.

Kohli is definitely not mentally weak, atm he is the best ODI batsman and has performed countless times under pressure. As for tests it can't be argued Smith isn't no.1.

Should be the end of this stupid conversation. Start the fourth test already.

I'm thinking of going to McLeodGanj this weekend, always been a dream for me to go and watch a match in Dharamshala.

The debate has been childish well before that statement.

Kohli is a better ODI player, I agree, but the original point was over both formats, Kohli was miles better than Smith and I'm sorry he isn't. First of all Kohli doesn't even average 50 with the bat in the test format. Smith out of the current players is by far and away the best test batsman in cricket right now, constantly breaking 60-70 year old records. Kohli isn't even the best ODI batsman (AB has him beat on average, runs and S/R, ICC backs me up - https://www.icc-cricket.com/rankings/mens/player-rankings/odi/batting) in the world right now and he certainly isn't the best test batsman, so how is he miles better?

Let me ask you this, if there is something on the line, a big match moment, a ODI world cup final or SF, a huge make or break in a test match, who do you want batting for you, Smith or Kohli? Kohli is a mental midget, end of discussion. If he had the mental fortitude of Dravid or Tendulkar he would probably live up to the outlandish claims made by most Indians. But I'm sorry I don't see it.

Kohli! Have you seen him in chases? He goes up a level and is probably the best finisher in cricket at the moment.

Then why did BCCI back off instead of proving it? This above attitude has to be the stupidest from a bunch of indian fans, smith cheated more than once and kohli saw it but there is no proof and BCCI didnt make a formal complaint. Yeah sure, :wenger:

Its pretty clear that kohli spoke out of turns and to label smith a cheater over a one-off incident is as bad as calling kohli a mental midget.

Well this thread blew up

The only thing that annoys me about Kohli are his OTT celebrations, like the slapping his shoulder the other day (whatever that meant), he reminds me of Klopp in that sense.

His general passion and feistiness on the field is great to watch, doesn't back down from anyone and gives his fair share out too.

Him and Smith have edged ahead of Root and Williamson recently out of the top 4 best batsman in the world. Kohli is a freak when it comes to limited overs and Smith is a freak when it comes to the test format.

I don't really care whether they did it multiple times or not mainly because it has no impact or advantage whatsoever. But he did in fact cheat. So the outrage should be spared for when he manages to do it without getting caught on live TV.

On ability alone, AB is still the best batsman in the world across all formats. Shame he has been dropping out of series and hasn't been playing as much as others.

Haven't included him because he hasn't played much for the past year or so.

Or as he said he had a simple brainfade and looked to the dressing room, and am not sure if I get you. It has no impact or advantage whatsoever but you are going to label him as a cheat instead of giving him the benefit of the doubt?

Hopefully Shami is included in the playing XI for the final test match, will be a big boost for our pace bowling.

I'd definitely drop Nair too but I don't think we'll go back to the five bowler strategy again, so I guess he'll stay.

Thing was, Smith only done it when Handscomb pointed him to the dressing room. I thought Handscomb was more at fault tbh.

India's best pacer, no doubt.

I have read that this pitch tends to be quite pace bowler friendly and does swing a bit.

Lyon will be dropped for bird IMO as Lyon's finger is not right

Well this is the first time a test match is happening there, so I've literally no idea how the pitch is gonna play. I think it'll be spin oriented tbh but let's see.

Yeah handscomb admitted to doing it, the only reason smith is being called a cheat is because kohli pointed the finger at him and some of his fans are behaving like sheep.

Yep. There will be swing in the first hour of every day but apart from that it's a normal Indian wicket.

Different format but last T20 WC, Santner and Sodhi took the mick out of the Aussies on this ground.
