Auction Fantasy Draft

He tore your lot one in that semi
To be fair the likes of Giuly and one of those Greek players did as well. Buffon was the best player on that team anyways, his penalty save in the 60th (?) minute in the second leg was the biggest moment of the match.

His peak was IMO at Lazio, he shouldn't have gotten the Ballon d'Or in 2003 either. He's closer to Beckham than he is to Figo.

And btw to anyone wondering...I'm not going for Zé as someone to fill a spot...you'll see later on. ;)

Nah. I love Nedved a whole lot, and I'd say Figo and Nedved are in the same level. For me in drafts it's usually one of them. I love these two players too much.

Don't see them as similar players to make a valid comparison, a lot of things one provides and the other doesn't and vice versa.

I don' think I agree with that at all. For starters, Juve were way better that day and I think would have won regardless of the pen. If anything, they were unlucky to lose 2-1 at Bernabau.

Nedved was immense for Juve from 2003-5. Only other contender for Ballondor in 2003 was Henry. And he was never going to win it after Arsenal bottled the title in 2002/3 season and flopped in Europe yet again

Playing him at fullback?

Nedved liked to come inside much more than Figo did, he had a killer shot too. Figo was a much better dribbler and crosser, there was probably only two or three people who could compare to Figo in his prime. Nedved offeres more in overall play but as a winger Figo is just on another level...simply a magical footballer.

Pippa you said it right, both have really different strengths but I don't think it means Figo was better as a winger. To be fair, I'd say it's really a matter of how you play them but it's still evens for me

What really settles it for me is Nedved's beautiful golden locks on one side and Figo's highly punchable face on the other.

Nedved wasn't that good.

I beg to differ, he was such a complete footballer that he has en edge on most other wingers in being able to play different roles and bringing some balance to a side which traditional out and out wingers don't really possess. I could see him on the alternate wing to pretty much anyone and making it work, also helps cover for a comparatively weaker fullback or central midfield. Top top player.

I wouldn't have much of an issue but then if a surprise seems to make one's effort look futile by completely tipping the scales the other way or something it wouldn't be that great in the long run.

Sure. It's not like I'm doing an auction draft anyway so that was probably not a great example. But you know how keen I am on creating "hidden gems" (e.g. Sammer being EAST German ;) ). I'm thinking about making it more like an RPG game where you can complete tasks and get special cards that give you an edge. Caveat being everyone has the chance to get them cards so it's not like you can complain if others beat you in the tasks.

It just stops being pure drafting, which you probably need to at some point as there's only that many different ways you can slice and dice the pool of players and we've done most of them  The only innovation/renewed challenge can come from the process itself.

Well yeah, as I said before he does offer more in overall play, but if you could have one of Figo or Nedved as your winger with the only goal of destroying the fullback, who is the better choice? There's only one answer to me...even at Inter, Figo's technique was just out of this world.

Mcmanaman for 10m is a true bargain.
Ofcourse, but this being a United forum, he won't make a difference.

Anyway I think we should button all the bargain talk before the bidding ends. It is same as not naming any players in a snake draft. A lot of managers can deliberately point out 'bargains' to make sure they don't go cheap. Not saying you are doing this here since last 2-3 pages have been full of such posts. We should not egg on others to make a bid for someone.

On another point, @Polaroid @Annahnomoss time to make a decison about NoPace. Personally I think it is not feasible to play this kind of real action draw, especially without a mains poster. I don't want to sound like impatient knob but I don't want to wait 1-2 days extra every round waiting for a single player.

We should kick off the 24 hour clock time on these bids today as well

We know, he can play midfield, fullback, wingback... a left flank Luis Enrique for a quarter fo the price. Not bad, not as good as him, but not bad if you get him for 10M.

He is a good buy in the sense that he won't be a weakness. Not someone who will either win you or lose you votes.

I'm up for it. And yeah as long as the field is kept even for everyone don't see any issue.

Pippa's point was though that as an out and out winger, Figo is better, which is true.

Sure, but the valuation isn't for him as an out and out winger but what he can contribute to the side overall, particularly when the other ten players rremain to be confirmed. With ten unknown players left I'd rather Nedved than Figo. That said, with the rubbish leftbacks in this pool Figo is a real gem.

Both of them and Giggs are the best deals out there, by a distance.

Fair enough..no more talk from me. And yes. Let someone replace Nopace if he cant play.

The 24 hr clock has already started, I made 3 posts on that
I will find one to quote it again
Annah could you then add it to the OP? Thanks

What I meant on the deadlines is

This round has 24 hrs timeline
Bids that come in before 8 am today GMT are deemed to be winning bids if unchallenged for 24 hrs from that time
Bids that come in after that are deemed to be winning bids if unchallenged for 24 hrs from time of submission

Subsequent rounds has 12 hrs timeline
Bids that are unchallenged for 12 hrs from time of submission are deemed to be winning bids

FAO all managers please note that the clock has started

I don't think Beckham is overpriced at all. Ideally I wouldn't want Ljungberg and Pires too, but Beckham/Pires on the flanks is very solid IMO.

Crappy, it already started at 8AM GMT for all bids submitted before then. That means 8AM on Sunday VivaJ would get Giggs, for example.

I'd suggest you all run through your current bids and post what time you made the current bid, i.e. MANAGER - <PLAYER><BID><DAY/24HTIME>, <PLAYER>...

This is from Pol earlier:

Next round onwards we switch to 12 hr timeline, no matter which timezone u r in, as long as u check every 12 hrs u should not miss out on any bid

Another thing to note, for all bids 50 mil and above, minimum increment is 2 m from now on

Any queries please feel free to raise them, I might have missed out on some

When a bid goes through, you remove the time and bold the player with money

Beckham-Pires would be fine, problem is I can't see anyone taking Ljungberg off you unless it is to pair him with Pires. There's always the option of resurrecting the Beckham CM debate... ;)

Also @Polaroid

I thought about your transfer list idea. I think we should not hold it parallel with bidding rounds.

When a bidding round is over, if someone gets a player he does not want. He can transfer-list him for 12 hours.

If no bids come in for him, he can still sell him for 10m if he wants (taking the money hit )

For example. trippy here can list Ljunberg .. if someone buys him for 15m.. he gets that.. if not.. he can get 10m ... losing 15m in process.
