Auction Fantasy Draft

Cristiano's peak is always rising in these drafts, probably rightly so in my opinion.

Could be, I've just always thought Cristiano was fairly underrated due to all the haters. Ronaldinho however is a dude every single football fan loves.

Everybody who won't pick wingers should make that clear as we as soon as they make their mind up so we don't end up waiting for a last pick that is never going to happen.

Anna - not been able to keep up as I'm working 20+ hours at work. Has this started? When is the deadline?

This has started and there is no deadline for the first round. So there is no stress for you to make a rushed pick, but so you know it is still going.

It would be great if you stated your intention though ASAP, if you don't want a winger you tell us so we know we don't have to wait. If you do want a winger, make your bid when you can!

This is right up your street mate, you should've got involved!

When first put forward it didn't sound so dynamic, more like a list of players with starting bid prices set by the mods and then individual auctions. It wasn't even clear if the auctions were live or via PM.

I'm fed up with the actual matches as well, think I'll just stick to modding or half-arsed unofficial assisting from now on.

Annah, just to clarify, there's no deadline for managers to bid but the 12 hours are running for the ones currently with bids on them, right? The problem I see with that is a player may get sold to the highest bidder without all managers having checked in/got up to speed.

Just saying, I'm not sure NM (let alone Stob who doesn't even know he is playing) are aware there is such urgency when you say "there is no deadline". There is no deadline for the round, but there are player-specific deadlines already in place.

You should make sure that is clear to all involved before any player gets signed up by anyone.

@antohan No mate, there are no deadlines what so ever in this round. This round is here because managers needs to get aware that the game has started. So having a bid unchallenged for 12 hours means nothing in this round.

For the next round there will be deadlines(Possibly not if this round goes brilliant without it.)

I think the 12h deadlines per player make sense. It also pushes up the bidding on others as some deals start getting closed so those with no deals end up paying over the odds for the leftovers (who may be quality, but Cristiano at 190M is a bit much).

It makes for some really interesting decision-making. e.g. right now everyone would just sit around for 12 hours and watch pace get stuck with Bale, but later on crappy may find he only got Cristiano and would possibly reconsider having paid 45M for Bale to secure a second winger but may end up paying that for Nani instead.

I think it does too. It is certainly worth trying, if it isn't working well we could just decide to go back to this option for round 3.

1. Annah - D.Silva 10m
2. Polaroid -
3. AldoPaine18 -
4. rpitroda - Beckham 40m
5. Isotope
6. Edgar Allan Pillow
7. crappycraperson - C.Ronaldo 90 m
8. NM
9. kps88
10. MJJ - Pires 10m Overmars 10m
11. Cutch - Kily Gonzalez 15m, Luis Enrique 20m
12. VivaJanuzaj - Giggs(55M)
13. Pippa
14. NoPace
15. PaceMe -C Lopez 16m, Robben 36m, Ribery 43m, Bale 43m
16. Fergus' son - Nedved 60m, Figo 60m, Ronaldinho 80m

If this round ended just about now there would be a few stuck with one winger, a few very happy managers and a really unhappy one.

Challenge 1
Prize: an extra 5M for your budget

Q: Who is the unhappy one?

That's the sort of random draft format I'll go for next :D

Challenge points would be scheduled well in advance, of course, although I may just have random ones in the middle of the night and reward anyone being awake.

Don't worry, Balu won't let me abuse it. I set him a challenge in January and he still hasn't got back to me with the answer

Sounds hilarious to be fair even if it isn't my cup of tea. Seems non-serious enough to be more of a laugh.

That's the idea, there's still a few things which should make it serious and interesting enough, otherwise it would all be a bit pointless. But yeah, overall the eventual winner would be the one who better navigated choppy waters. Luck would play a part but no more than 20% or so. Not that luck isn't important in the real world...

Isn't negative if it involves luck as long as it walks that line of seriouness/fun more towards the fun side. In my opinion that is of course. Sounds like a great draft idea anyhow.

Nah.. if it was to end soon.. a lot will make picks.. I would be ecstatic if I can get Ron for 90 and know a couple I can target for 10m.

Paceme though., I dunno what he will do!

Paceme though., I dunno what he will do!

Maybe he can sell some of them back to Pol for the 1M less he was willing to pay? Maybe Pol will only take them for 6M less now?

Sure will need to get creative because blowing half your budget on four wingers is a bit much.

Actually, shame Iso pulled out, the #10 round would have been interesting.

Like I said earlier I've been trying to estimate and see prices for players before starting the draft for quite some time.

The top players of the draft like Messi/Ronaldo/C.Ronaldo/Ronaldinho/Zidane and so fort should be much closer to 120-140 than 90.

For a good reference just imagine they were for sale today. What would their price be if they were at their peak assuming they were young as here age doesn't matter.

300 m is very similar to what Real Madrid/PSG/City/Chelsea would spend on their first eleven, or first 12 players.

Would Ronaldinho really go for 90 mill if he was peaking today and on sale with the rest of the players in this draft.

This is a transfer Muppet game, managers can buy AND sell players. Paceme can place any of his players on the transfer list to invite fresh bids for the player

E.g.
1. Annah - D.Silva 10m
2. Polaroid -
3. AldoPaine18 -
4. rpitroda - Beckham 40m
5. Isotope
6. Edgar Allan Pillow

15. PaceMe -C Lopez 16m, Robben 36m, Ribery 43m
16. Fergus' son - Nedved 60m, Figo 60m, Ronaldinho 80m

Transfer list
Bale - PaceMe 43 m

Fresh bid starts at 10 m so say Iso comes in to bid 15 m, he adds Bale to his list, if Crappy wants to top the bid, he removes Bale from Iso and add Bale to his, exactly the mode we use now

All this while Bale stays on the transfer list until someone say Crappy wins the bid for say 40 m. PaceMe then has 3 m deducted from his pot

Managers who overspend have this recourse to sell off players ,just like in reality
No such thing as invalid bid unless you do not have enough money in the pot to go through with winning bids
In this case, the offending team pays a fine of 10m and the player goes to the 2nd highest bidder
No money to pay the fine? Sell a player and buy a cheaper one
This makes managers responsible for their budget and bids

Mmm I m not sure abt this

It would make it more complicated. I like it but I Don think we should allow people to overspend.

It shouldn't be allowed at all. But this will be the main punishment.

If someone does more severe stuff though it should be punished further. Like repeatedly over-bidding for a laugh, or blocking the transfer deadline with bids that are over budget to make sure a manager doesn't get a good deal on a player.

It happens in reality and it is bound to happen here. Liverpool overspent on Carroll and offloaded him to cut the losses. They took a hit to the finances rather than keep a player on the books whom they won't play. Managers here should also have the flexibility ,just like in reality, to correct mis=steps at a cost

I mean we can't allow people to go over 300m or spend in one round on players which won't allow them to buy the rest

I think that's covered by Pol's suggested penalties for bidding with money you don't have.

This is more a case of regretting something and wanting to offload a player. E.g. if someone only gets one winger they rate, or want to free up cash for other deals... or have wound up signing four wingers or three goalkeepers

It is bound to happen at some stage, why not give managers the opportunity to sell at a loss (and other managers the opportunity to get firesale prices).

We won't restrict the freedom of managers to bid unless they fail to go through with a winning bid. In that case, they will pay a fine of 10 mil and lose the player to the 2nd highest bidder. If someone overspends and has to transfer list his players, he will have to bear the deficit from what he overspent and the true market value of the player

Yup, the manager bears the cost of his missteps through a reduced transfer kitty instead of ruining the game

Basically, what you are getting at is someone could at some point spend such an amount that completing a team for 300M wouldn't be possible (a projection) but so long as he has the money (current cash position) he is allowed to.

It is then up to them to decide how to make up the shortfall, which may well include selling another player. E.g. if Fergus gets Nedved, Figo and Dinho he may choose to sell one of them later to pay more for a CM.
