I almost jinxed it, that was huge by Taylor, 18.21m.
I think Jonathan Edwards' triple jump world record is safe for now. I remember watching that back in '95.
Before the 200m finals, our commentator was going on about how the whole BBC crew were hating on Gatlin so hard, it was unreal. They were literally dancing around and hugging each other when Bolt won the 100mThe BBC Athletics pundit team is awful. Like, seriously shit. Other than Michael Johnson, none of them have anything of any substance to say.
Denise Lewis, in particular, is like a real life version of Perd Hapley. I don't think I've ever heard her say anything but the bleeding obvious.
Bolt is just amazing. Already a Legend. Edging towards an Athletic God now.
It's just annoying on a personal level how he keeps slowing down at the end I'd love to know how fast he can REALLY go in the 100m and 200m. I doubt we'll see him break anymore records now, but I wonder how fast he could have gone.
Hmm, don't think that's true. He ran his world records on the 100m and 200m when he was at his best, and ran all the way in both races. It does sort of add to his myth though... we may never know just how fast Bolt really is/was.

I think it's because the BBC picks its pundits based on how many gold medals they have, rather than how good they are at offering insight. If you're going to build a team of ex-athletes who don't really know what they're doing, you're going to get a lack of professionalism. Before the 200m finals, our commentator was going on about how the whole BBC crew were hating on Gatlin so hard, it was unreal. It's strange how the BBC (and Sky) always want ex-athletes to give their opinion on things although they're very often terrible at it (several pundits at MotD, Henry, ...). It's the same here in Belgium though if that's any consolation, our football programs are full with 35 year olds who can't cut it anymore at the top level and decide to become a 'pundit'. I thought the unapologetically biased coverage was quite refreshing to be honest. Just about everyone watching wanted Bolt to beat Gatlin so I don't have a problem with the commentators showing how they felt about it.Before the 200m finals, our commentator was going on about how the whole BBC crew were hating on Gatlin so hard, it was unreal. True enough, but then, part of me does think that if he hadn't dicked around at the first Olypmics, he'd have ended with a faster time than his current WR ended up being.
I think it's just a visual impression because if you look at the difference in times between the two WRs, I don't think that not doing the celebrating would have made him go under 9.58s.
That 2009 race really was amazing when you think that Gay ran 9.69 for silver, the same time Bolt had when he won in Beijing. And he wasn't even close.
Great effort from Asher-Smith in the 200m, not sure she'll beat Thompson or Schippers but bronze is a very real possibility. Bolt's best event is the 200m so I didn't expect Gatlin to get close in that one, impressive from the Jamaican.
Yes, it was a rather big gap between the two times. I love it when they start to celebrate before the finishing line, that Beijing WR was the most badass moment I've ever witnessed in track n field To celebrate and break a world record at the same time. Amazing when you think about it.
I still think David Rudisha's 800m gold at the olympics is up there with Bolt's 9.58. The guy that finished last in that race would have won gold at the previous 3 olympics with his time. Unbelievable.
Yeah it was the manner in which Rudisha ran the race. Convention dictates that you don't tear off at world record pace in major middle-distance finals because the risks of crashing and burning are so great. Convention also dictates that you only set world records in the middle distances in the slipstream of a pacemaker for two thirds of the race. Rudisha blow both of those conventions away.I still think David Rudisha's 800m gold at the olympics is up there with Bolt's 9.58. who is the commentator in this?
It'll be a good race. Usually one of them drops the baton, but we can live in hope that Gatlin and Bolt are handed the baton in close proximity on the final bend. How come USA are favorites for 4x100m ?
Bolt will go last and it looked to me like he could have go even faster today. Surely worth a bet on Jamaica?
