Ashley Young | now of Everton

wtf, red shirt black shorts was a classic United away kit, back in the day.
I agree... red shirt black shorts is my favourite too. Just that particular top with the black lines it was awful for me (in my opinion anyway - I get some may have loved it).

Great professional but I think it's been one season too far for him.

What a moment.

There were some people who legitimately thought he should have been sent off for it too

He was already on a yellow by this point tbf so he was treading on thin ice. We've seen players get second yellows for far less.

Loved it though. It happened right in front of where I sit. 30 seconds later, whilst Di Maria is still laying on the floor milking it, Young walks over to apologise and you hear a guy stood behind me shout "give him another one Ash!"

Good to hear from him on MNF. Met him last summer, great guy...

Cracking lad, fantastic career and still going which is testament to his professionalism.

Nice he could win a title in Italy too, only the third Englishman to do it.

Great insight from Mr Young tonight speaking on past managers after Sir Alex

Felt he was a bit of a bridge between yesteryear and now. Loves SAF but cannot really describe why, he couldn't - and by extension his team mates - produce anything similar under other managers. A lot seemed to be that they 'didn't get' or 'they wete too tactical'. For me, AY seemed like everything we deem wrong with the modern game. Call me cynical if you want..

Outside of a few months in his first season it's not like Young produced much else for Fergie. Struggling with injury/form for the rest of his first season and was a non entity for entirety of 12/13. Played lots of games for us and seems a likeable chap but he was a poor signing for me. Outside of the few months in his first season he never hit the heights he did at Villa and never seemed good enough to be challenging for the major trophies.

That’s not what I took from that. He didn’t say any manager was “too tactical”. He just expressed that he didn’t like how rigid LVG and Mourinho set us up. He’s an attacking wide player by trade so you can understand why he would have preferred less rigid coaches.
He also clearly stated some of the signings post Fergie weren’t up to it and that was partly the reason for the downturn in fortunes. He implied LVG’s approach with players didn’t work.
Your take is odd to be honest…

One of the most insightful interviews into the post-Fergie era I've seen. I hope one day someone writes a book on all this madness tapping into dressing room sources like him.

Who knows with a good pre-season and the right preparation, but he looked well off it in the second half of the season.

You would hope Everton aren’t planning on starting him as much.

Have a father and son ever played against each other?

If Everton go down and the Posh go down it could happen (or a lucky cup draw).
If Everton go down and the Posh go down then they will be in the same position.

He clearly meant posh go up.

Anyway, to answer the question, I believe sheringham played against his son.

Everton drew Peterborough in the 3rd round! Young Young vs Old Young!

Ashley Young completed football. To play to 40, win the things he's won and then play his own son, this is a man who got everything out of the game he could.

Has this happened in English football before?

I'm stocking up on vindaloo paste and bottles of stout. It's going to be a challenge but I'm ready for it...

Amazing. Love that

Will the young Young play? Nice if happens.

His only appearance was his debut, 27 minutes in the EFL Trophy. Unused sub twice in the league, once in the Carabao, not part of the last 9 matchday squads.

Edit: Old Young might not either I suppose. Coleman, Patterson.

I could see him absolutely wiping the Young lad out if he had to.
