Ashley Young | now of Everton

at his age, his medical is going to consist of a prostate exam and call from his grandson.

A pretty underwhelming signing for a club wanting to stop the repeat of narrowly avoiding relegation every season
Everton doing Everton stuff. Young is a great model pro but come on, he is 38. Unless he is joining in a hybrid role as player and staff.
Why can’t Everton just try to build a young exciting team? Surely this would be better especially for their future than heroically escaping relegation every season.

They are skint! They have a terrible squad of players and they need to sell to buy!

5ish years of horrible financial mismanagment has led to us being very very skint and we have to be careful in how we buy players now. I think this season, like last will be a mix of low value loan signings and perhaps one or two young player brought in like Onana on a 'low' fee installment type deal.

"I won trophies at Manchester United."

"You mean Manchester City, don't you grandpa?"

"No! United! We even won the Premier League!"

"It's heartbreaking watching their minds decay so quickly..."

“we’d thought he’d been eating loads of
polos since he got here, turns out it was just discs of dried bird shit.”

I didn't realise he played 30 games for Villa last season. That's good going for a 38 year old. Pretty happy with this as a squad signing as it's good cover for two positions we need it and I wouldn't even be surprised if he became our starting LB.

backup or starting left back probably.

I read your post and thought "well, that's quite a bad option to have as your starting left back, isn't it?"
Immediately followed by "I can actually imagine Antony or Sancho having a hard time against a 204-year-old Ashley Young".
meh.

Brilliant signing for you then ;)

Jonny Evans heavily linked to them now. They're getting criticised for a short sighted approach, but if you have 30p to spend, you cant really do much else than be short sighted.

I expect we'll see Andros Townsend rocking up shortly and maybe even Barkley with a return.

Young is a top pro. He will give them valuable experience. 38 and still getting signed by prem clubs. That says a lot

I always liked Young. Not the most talented perhaps. But, he had enough talent and a great work effort and a good attitude when it came to putting the team first. Managers and coaches seem to love him. Wouldn't surprise me if he became a manager when he finally hangs up his boots.

I thought he was done when he went to inter. The fact he's managed to play 3 seaons and is going to play at least another one at 38 is really something.

Ronaldo is playing in South Africa at 38.
Young is playing for Everton at 38.

Ronaldo can't run anymore.
Young still runs a lot.

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Young eats turds.

Bu seriously, good on him. Always liked Young.

Quite a run from Saudi Arabia in fairness
It's ironic that in the future there's going to be the Mandela Effect where people swore that Ronaldo played in South Africa

Weird move I thought he would just see out his days at Villa.

I know there's a bit of scoffing going on because it's not a signing to get pulses racing, but Ashley Young is a class act in my opinion.

In his time at United he always came across as being a model professional and the fact he went to Inter during COVID and did well there speaks volumes.

Fair play to him, and good to see him still strutting his stuff in the Prem pushing 40.

I'm amazed hes still getting signed by PL clubs, he looked totally finished with us about 5 or 6 years ago. Good luck to him.

I get the sentiment but i'm not really sure you can use the quote form is temporary and apply it to ronaldo when he's scored 886 goals in 1136 apps, that's one hell of a run of form ;D

But seriously, i watched Young for villa last season and he started at left back and didn't look much different from the player we saw at United. He's obviously not as fast but he was never rapid anyway. He was then moved to left wing later for the tail end of the season as a starter, which is doubly impressive considering the attacking players they had already signed. I fully expect him to be a key player for Everton, he's certainly not there just to make up the numbers.

Top lad.

Had the pleasure of meeting him and his family once and they were all lovely, especially his grandfather.

He was always a top lad. Remember a story about him buying a new phone for a city/liverpool fan after it got smashed. Just a pleasant human being and great pro.

Didn't he storm out of a training session after being told he couldn't leave for Inter? Whilst being captain of the club

In completely understandable circumstances, and such a petty little thing that, give this gesture and years of service, nobody with a pulse would even dream of bringing up without fear of looking like a massive twat.

Vidic abandoned the club the first sign things were going wrong but people still love him

He's been a bit meh this season but that's a classy touch and it's pretty incredible he's still capable of putting in 90 mins each week at his age.

I think he's always been an athlete/very fit. He doesn't have a big frame so that helps as he gets into his thirties, staying lean.

What a moment.

There were some people who legitimately thought he should have been sent off for it too
