Ashes I - 2013 - In England

This is about what you should have expected, with Ian Bell taking on Matt Prior's and Matt Prior forgetting how to bat.

Yeah, I just don't get the 'fecking bring it, we're bowling' feeling that we used to get with McGrath and those. Obviously the current crop aren't that level of magical but I still feel it's lacking penetrative combinations. Especially without the spinner to balance it.

Radar looks like sporadic showers and possibly just over half a day at least. Promising not getting my hopes up though.

Play will restart at 11.30, could still get a full days play and to be honest with the cloud cover, facing the new ball will be extremely difficult.

332 in 90 odd overs? If England back themselves they can do this, it's a good pitch.

Much better forecast tomorrow, should bring back reserve days. Obviously it would have been a bit close to the 4th test but still.

Even if it's a full day, England will be fecking daft to have a go at this. Just play for the draw.

Why not? If it's a full day it's 330 off 98 overs. Just a shade over 3 an over (3.39 to be exact) and a pitch which hasn't deteriorated too much. You have to play in phases but even in seeing off the new ball you'd have to think 2.5-3 an over is possible.

and that'd be the sensible thing to do.

Hope it can avoid the rain, never nice to see a team rescued by the rain regardless of who it is. If England are to save the game they should do it the right way like in Auckland this year, earn the draw.

Also surely they're not going to get 98 overs in now that the starts been delayed even if they do avoid rain? Even then i'd be very surprised if England average over 3 an over, they'll go for the draw and a very slow run rate. Frankly I expect us to be 2 or 3 wickets down early before stabilisig it and then being rained off sometime in the afternoon.

Too much risk. Did you saw how much spin Swann got on the 4th day,

Besides England doesn't need it, if they were 2-0 down then perhaps they'd have taken this sort of risk but there's no chance in hell they'll go for the win if they're 2-0 up.

Different game situation with Australia pushing and Swann still only took 1 wicket. Also England only have 1 left-hander in the top order. I'd monitor it more than anything, just play as normal and see where we are at Tea. Australia will be aggressive with the fields so runs will be available.

Oof.. That is a ripper of a ball to get as a Lefty.. Very interesting. I'd not bowl starc at all today. feck me that first over was garbage.

Cook just did a Shane Watson their. Selfish review.

I said before if you bowl straight lines across him or slightly back into him he's crap. Plants the front stool and tries to play through the line and gets out.

To be fair you reckon everyone's crap.

Seriously just put 2 behind square one in front of square an two silly mid ons and bowl at trotts hip.

You don't get Cook's record and 25 100's by having such a glaring weakness, he's just in poor form at the moment, happens to all players. As with all good ones he'll come back into form soon enough, look at Bell who had something like 1 hundred in his last 30 odd innings, now he can't stop scoring runs.

People will start bowling shite outside off to him again

feck me starc is bowling hoops now.

No idea, he's good at rotating the strike in ODI's but in Tests he just stops playing at anything until he sees off the new ball.

Starc is a really an Australian Ishant Sharma. Utterly brainless inspite of having everything else to be a great test bowler.

Without a good spinner here were going to struggle. Swann was bowling hand grenades yesterday I'd almost give the ball to smith as Warner and see if they can snag a wicket.

I thought the Australians would improve this Test. I have been disappointed with England though. I think a lot of them have just not performed. Too caught up in the whitewash talk, or suffering from tiredness?

Whoever batted first would have the best chance to win the test, England bowled ok, lots of played and missed but no edges. England will be disappointed with their batting but Cook, Trott and Prior all are out of nick.
