Why?
The longer England bat the more chance Australia have of saving the match.
They had more than enough runs at 5.30.
They didn't though (at around 500 lead with an hour to go). If you look at it from the point of view of history, yes it would smash all records for a winning run chase. But from the point of view of logic, if they bat for 2 days, they'll get it.
The point is that people latch on to the fact they would have to smash records to win, but they miss the fact they would have to smash records to draw... when did anybody last bat 2 whole days to save a match in the 4th innings?
