Arturo Vidal

While this doesn't seem to be happening, I'm totally baffled as to why... considering that after 25k comments, we seem to have established that:

1. LVG wants him
2. Juve are willing to sell
3. The price would be relatively reasonable
4. We are prepared to spend big money
5. Vidal is interested in the move
6. His knee is working just fine

Which of these points have we got wrong?

The fact that he didnt completely break down in his first game back is hardly proof that his knee is fine.

Ok then so why didn't they pay for him then knowing that they would be receiving £40mil or whatever for Vidal?.
Its not happening.

Who are you trying to convince?

Oh wake up Pexbo, seriously. I was there with you weeks ago but what possible reason would we leave this transfer to the last possible point?, its not like Juve are desperate for him to leave and will start knocking his price down.

We will end up with Blind and thats it, it will be another missed transfer window yet again imo.

You're preaching to the choir. Nobody thinks it's happening anymore.

629 pages, 1 day left. Can we hit 650? Probably not.

The bit I've enjoyed most in this whole saga, is the people who say Vidal's knee is way too bad for us to bother with, and then in their next sentence say Strootman is a better option.

One having the worst knee injury of them all, who hasn't played for an untold amount of time, and one whose injury was so non severe that he played at the World cup through it!

One game is not a proof. Hargreaves was alright in his first season before it started going downhill. I don't know what the real reason is, but just saying.

Hargreaves was injured his first season. He never had a full recovery from his leg break. It transitioned into other knee issues but it was directly a result of him soldiering on that first season when he probably should have been sat.

I blame it on his desire to please the United faithful and SAF that first season. It's a perfect example of when someone needs to protect the athlete from themselves. That probably doesn't happen enough to be fair, but it is a really tough situation for an elite athlete who only has so many years to make their mark. However I think Vidal is a different case to Hargreaves. Hargreaves had that chip on his shoulder where he still felt he needed to prove himself. He was not a universally recognized world class player and many questioned his worth and ability.

Vidal is undeniably a world class player, his reputation is not in jeopardy and I don't think he would feel the same sort of pressure that Hargreaves did coming to United. Hargreaves I think felt like he had to perform immediately to justify himself to the supporters. With Vidal there are no doubts, if he needs more time to get right so be it.

Well - regardless, whatever happens this season we can't blame Ed (for once)-

Rojo, Shaw, Herrera, di Maria, Blind

If anyone had told me that in may - I would be ecstatic.

Still not counting this out until the deadline. You never know what can happen on deadline day.

I'll say this. Every time I've seen players do that on the pitch, it tends to be because they're moving.

But there's nothing to corroborate that Vidal will.

So... keep dreaming.

True. I can't wait until we see them all playing on the pitch together. We'll look like a completely different team to the one we've seen in the past couple of weeks.

Yeah, that Strootman bit is baffling.

I have no idea how Vidals knee is, but you assume that ACL tear is the worst injury, which is really not totally correct. ACL graft repairs are very durable nowadays. Meniscal injuries are far more varied and complex. I can't say which knee will be worse in the long run, but I can tell you that making a blanket statement like "worst knee injury of them all" is really oversimplifying very complex injuries. Bottom line..there is no reliable way to know which, if either Vidal or Strootman, will recover better and have less long term ill effects.

I wouldn't be surprised if the slightest sniff of a rumour tomorrow is enough to push it over the line...

I need to get my shit together. What have I been talking about?

So here's what happened:

We tried to sign him this week.

Juve wanted silly money thinking that he's our Number 1 target. Van Gaal name checked him with Messi and they used this against us.

Van Gaal then comes out and said he's not allowed to mention targets as the price then goes up. He's had his wrist slapped by Woodward.

We cool it and let him play on Saturday to see how his knee goes.

We are leaving it til the last day to drop a last chance take it or leave it offer on the table in the knowledge they can afford to lose him and want to cash in.

Tomorrow is the day. V-Day.

This isn't happening. Juve are not letting him go on the last day.

they can easily replace him with Guarin in a few hours if they want. He is not really a replacement quality wise, but who is. If we make a good offer to them and Vidal wants out, it could happen. But obviously i dont think it will happen.

I believe if we thought Vidal was 100%, we'd have done whatever it took to land him.

I don't think this is anything other than our doubts regarding his knee.

If we do feel there's an issue there, we have been prudent not moving for him, as sad as that is to type.

That does not excuse not going for an alternative, however. We still need one even with Blind coming in.

Yeees! The real Pexbo is feckin back! It's ON!:D:devil:

But do they need to replace him, per se? I get that they could do with signing somebody with the money they'd get, to improve their squad generally and also to appease the fans, but a like-for-like centre mid? One of the main reasons people were optimistic about Vidal int he first place is that they are massively stocked in that department.

Isn't Pirlo injured now?

well baring any real in depth medical expertise, bearing in mind one has been out for months and months, is still out, and won't kick a ball for ages, and one played in the world cup, and is back playing now, it's got to be more stacked in Vidal's favour surely

I think the main concern with Vidal's knee is the fact that the procedure and his recuperation were not carried out properly and if he will suffer in the future as a result. With the World Cup being in June the procedure was by all accounts pretty hasty and instead of being out for the usual 8-10 weeks for such an operation he was out for only 4. It's also worth noting he didn't start the first game for Chile at the World Cup and didn't complete a full 90 minutes at the tournament.

With Strootman on the other hand no chances have been taken in his rehabilitation and he won't be rushed back. Logically as a result there is less chance of him having issues with his knee in the future unlike Vidal who could suffer due to short cuts taken with his recovery.

Seems logical, but it doesn't work that way. I have medical knowledge. I'm not suggesting an ACL tear is a walk in the park, and that his career might also suffer. I am telling you though that ACL is much more straight forward to repair. There is far more complexity to meniscal tears.

I still believe this one will go down to the wire. It's such a typical deadline day type of transfer. Juve clearly want to sell if they get a nice bid which imo is anything over 35 million gbp. And United clearly have unhappy fans and awful results plus we could with a WC CDM following Blinds signing and maybe a few others out the door.

40million bid tomorrow. Boom!!! Done.
