Although i'm 99% certain this isn't happening, the fact that Van Gaal name dropped Vidal the other day really is sticking in my mind. He would obviously want him in an ideal world and it would just be a bit cruel by Van Gaal if we don't get him now.

It's been a long season of muppeting. I made a bet earlier this summer and I was sure I had my cards covered with the knee situation but he completed nearly 90 minutes today so I can't fall back on that excuse.
Maybe we have a trump card up our sleeve, a huge bid to change Juve's mind but I'd be surprised if it's true this late in the window.

I've discussed in person with friends. On paper it should work. But one thing someone mentioned is that it's not a system van Gaal has used previously?
Personally I'd prefer going 4-3-3 playing di Maria as a winger with januzaj on the other wing. Which means one of RVP or Rooney has to be dropped.
It is sort of a narrow 4-3-3 I guess. The width is provided primarily by Di Maria while Rafael is free to make many overlapping runs.
Van Gaal has used the diamond at Bayern before he bought Robben.
Vidal is not really a DM though.
You could even play Herrera as a DM which makes more sense since Vidal seems to be the more mobile midfielder of the two.
Its not a necessity that you need a pure DM. You can play 2 box to box mids with them alternating when making runs forward. A bit like a midfield of Kroos and Modric Vidal is by the way more of a DM than Herrera.
Oh okay didn't realise he did. yeh I wouldn't use Vidal as the DM. I'd use Herrera. Or maybe Blind and have four players for the other three spots.
You need a DM in a diamond. I am not sure how you alternate there ?

LVG has brought in Blind to be his DM and will slot him alongside Herrera and Carrick when he comes back, I can't see him getting Vidal anymore

We have too many attacking minded players on the pitch (rvp, rooney, mata, adm). Our weak defense and midfield cant support that. Id say we should sacrifice a striker for an extra body in midfield. 4-3-3 with januzaj and adm on the flanks and rooney upfront is the way to go
Played very well last night. Full of energy , chased players down and put some crunching tackles in and could have scored two goals with one saved on the line and a header hitting the post.
Having already spent 150 mil or so and recently the blind deal, i really cant see us making any more moves in this market, especially for someone as costworthy as Vidal.
