Out of curiosity, what do you guys think the benefit is of briefing the media so close to the deal being sorted, if that is indeed the case? I imagine there is some benefit for the club somewhere in there, just not sure what it is. Just to help keep a good relationship with the press and avoid the press turning on them, perhaps?

The anti-muppet in me is still feeling like this was just a briefing to distract us from the failure of last night, but regardless, I live in hope.

Considering how LVG has mentioned that the squad is really imbalanced (lots of quality attackers vs. the midfield and defense) I don't think we would have bought Di Maria if van Gaal was confident of landing another midfielder to give us more cover in the midfield and someone to help link the midfield and attack. Does that make sense or am I being delusional?

I'm not entirely sure, but I guess what you suggested yeah. There's surely a relationship of trust (to a certain extent) and exchange between clubs and journalists, the clubs knowing the journos need clicks and articles, and wanting to keep them on their side when real media coverage is important.

I think there is something in this. All summer we have heard nothing from the British media apart from that we might be considering a move or simply denying the rumours. All the main guys have changed their tune now. Whether we pull it off is one thing but we must be feeling confident right now to be briefing the press.

Could well be one reason.

Also to maintain optimism among the fans, the majority of the fanbase are on edge and could turn at any moment.

Who's done this to the title? It's got me all hyped up again. :(

Saying goodbye to his teammates according to Andy Goldstein
You have to understand that Andy is a muppet like us, he is a United fan and looks out for transfer news. He does not consider himself an ITK, he is just a radio host for TalkSport (tune is every day at 10pm is you want). He is just reading what is on twitter and just tweeted it.

Move on.

Are we sure he wasn't just .. finished training for the day?

I dunno about you guys but I usually say goodbye after work too.

So like for people like me who don't follow this thread closely, is there anything concrete or is it all muppetry?

We'll hear soon sth anyway. Juventus are either going to come out and deny everything or we are….well going to sign him. Not much days left.

Juve play on Saturday I think? So realistically we should know something tomorrow or Friday, if he plays on Sat its not happening (I don't think they would risk it)

There is no summer transfer window for United where nothing fun's happening on deadline day. This year it's Vidal, i hope we get the fecker.
