Arturo Vidal

If we sign Vidal I believe it can be sorted relatively quickly imo. All the talk of us already agreeing term with his reps is probably true. The only hold ups would be the price due to the knee (which is convenient for us to make them sweat). They made so much noise about deadlines given to Vidal etc but that has all gone quiet. Why have the player and manager not put this to bed since, just like Fabregas did last year.
I think the name drop is key and phase one of operation Vidal. It's widely reported that they have contacted us over Hernandez. There would be no way we would discuss him without mentioning Vidal, the muppet in me believes this is ongoing and will go to the wire until Vidal will finally speaks. We will then sign him about 5 mins before the window shuts with little Pea going in the other direction. Concluding a very memorable last week of the transfer window!

No, it's not. It's a negotiation with asymmetric information. In this case the seller knows more than the buyer - Juve may well know more than we do about the true state of Vidal's knee and the implications for his career.

Even if we try to reduce the risk by bidding low, it won't help. If Juve know or suspect that Vidal is a crock, they'll accept a low offer - in which case we end up with a £30M turkey. If they believe he'll fully recover, they won't accept a reduced offer, and we won't get the player. No way the knee issue can help us.

If this comes off, following Di Maria, then I reckon some of the muppets aren't just going cocks out, they'll be ripping them off.

It can help us, but only if we get lucky - we can't guarantee any gain from it, and the balance of probability is that it will work against us slightly, due to the factors you mention.

I'm failing to understand the logic in that.

"Hey Allegri, Vidal's knee is fecked, we'll give you 10m less!"
"It is?"
"Yeah, rekt"
"But our medical team didn't say anyth.."
"15m less"
... alright alright Ed, I trust you!"

It's actually not that implausible a theory.

Every cnut knows we're desperate for a top CM. If Juventus are willing to sell but now think we have genuine doubts whether or not to press ahead with this particular signing (for whatever reason) they will feel a lot less confident about playing hardball over a price.

Obviously, this all depends on whether or not the fee we have offered thus far is something they're willing to consider. A fear of us pulling out only works if we've already offered a fee that interests them.

So Di Maria is done, so no story anymore........journos and twatteratti revive the Vidal "story" for their k(l)icks.

Is his knee really gonna improve so much in a week? Is he really gonna accept an appearance related contract?

No.

I don't know if my heart can take signing Vidal as well after Mata, Shaw, Herrera, Rojo and Di Maria.

If we do get Vidal and lets say either Blind or Lucas Silva. Do we declare this transfer window the Summer of Ed.
Vidal will be more than enough.

Really who would've thought before the Summer window that in the course of 3 months we would get Shaw, Herrera, Di Maria, Vidal and Rojo? Even Rojo is a bonus in that list.

ESPN on Vidal: Sources have repeatedly stated that #MUFC's interest was very real, and it now appears that they will finally act on that.

Ed Maylon, Delaney, Jackson, Herbert all reporting similar.

Ogden said something along those lines as well.

Gathering good momentum now again this. We need to make our minds up about the knee already though.

I don't think it's going to happen, simply on the very rational basis that it would make the summer too fantastic. We just couldn't handle that level of goodness.

Fly slowly coming down...

Misses looking at me thinking "what the feck are you doing"

She wouldn't understand

 if we signed Di Maria AND Vidal in the same week this place would explode.

Woodward is at it, he will deliver. I remember when he bought Herrera, then Shaw the next day. I am pretty sure that we will make a bid and the end of the week will be fun.

I will completely take back everything bad I have ever said about him if he delivers Vidal.

We would feel how Madrid, Barca, City and Chelsea feel nearly every summer

This would be something unprecedented though - signing one of the best wingers, arguably the most complete midfielder, arguably the best young left back, a crafty Spanish midfielder AND an Argentinian world cup finalist defender in one window. The only thing that comes close is that one season Madrid signed Ronnie + Kaka.

I doubt it. The moans will only go from "why don´t we sign any top players?" to "why do we always overpay?". you can see posters in the Di Maria thread moaning about us overspending on him already.

If we have secured those documents from the Chilean national team as reported they will only know more about his knee by having conducted their pre season medical on him. We would also give him a thorough going over medical wise before parting with any cash plus how could they know he is going to be a crock any more than our own medical staff?
What I mean by making them sweat is calling their bluff, he played the other day and they have declared him fit, they need cash its widely known that they are not good financially, surely they would be sounding us out over the move if they are worried about his future. The fact they are not actively trying to sell him to us but also not 100% confirming he will not be sold is more because they are desperate for finances IMO, the longer it goes the better chance we would have of getting a better deal. Again this is just what I am speculating.

When was the last time we made two major purchases and unveiled them together?

Only one I can remember is Nani and Anderson. What a day that was.

Exactly, they started a couple of days ago when the signs were that Di Maria was going to happen, going from saying we'll never sign top players, to too much money , wrong area to strengthen etc, if we sign Vidal as well it will probably be why are we signing someone with a potentially dodgy knee:boring:

Ronaldo, Kaka & Benzema. It was insane.
