Arturo Vidal

I won't lie i actually believed the hype (mainly created by us) and thought he would come. Disappointed but i have come to accept it.

We gave 150 percent of ourselves and left our hearts on the pitch.

Sounds almost like a proper Moyes if you add: "Luck wasn't on our side this time, but I hope we can sign someone better than Fellaini next time. City are signing good players and we want to aspire to that level of transfer policy. I've already had Woody look at videos of Evertons executives signing contracts."

Muppet's dream scenario: this completely dies down, then suddenly picks up rapid pace on the penultimate day with info. about a bid being accepted, and he leaves for Bayern.

We havent made a signing of this stature in 10 years. We just don't do it. It's a joke.

While i agree he'd be a real landmark signing, i think there are some that would claim Mata and RvP were bigger. I bet there are some out there who barely know who he is, but in terms of how much we need a player of his kind, to sign the best of the lot represents a real coup, i agree there.

No way.

Aye, if I was going to commit £100m odd on a player I'd certainly want to see him jog around at half pace against a bunch of no marks for 20 minutes.
I don't know, he did a lot more than that at the World Cup (though still never 90 minutes), and now he's still not been playing 6 weeks later. And if the reports of him having ice on his knee yesterday are true, then there is no doubt that his knee is still having problems. Icing would be common while recovering, but he shouldn't still be recovering, especially after Vidal (and/or Juve) had claimed that the knee was ok.

Mata, Kagawa, Van Persie, De Gea, Berbatov, Tevez, Carrick and just under ten years ago, Rooney. I'd say we've signed some top, top players over the years. For me, Berbatov's signing had about as much fanaticism surrounding it as Vidal has now. It's not unheard of.

What about the people who don't follow Serie A? Who don't play Fifa, FM, or basically keep track of anything outside England? I'm willing to bet there are a good percentage of fans who don't know anything about him, if they know who he is at all.

Talk is cheap. If Ed would actually make a bid of 40-50m, Vidal would be faster at United than we could say 'Ando'.

just over a week until we can finally dump this thread into the archives!

Easily the most boring transfer saga in many a year on RedCafe. This should be in consideration for worst thread of the year.

And if we are not sure about his knee we should just dump £50m transfer fee and £50m wages on him regardless.

He is fit. We just dont want to pay the fecking money and tell everyone we are worried about his knee. His knee injury is not a career ending injury.

Faster than Ando could down a pint and scoff a pukka pie too. Which is fast.

We spent £37m on Mata 6 months ago, £30m on a teenage left back and £30m another CM what makes you think we wouldn't be willing to spend on Vidal if he was the player LVG wants?

You simply don't know that, though. As fans, we don't have a clue whether he is or isn't still carrying the injury or whether it is or isn't a potentially chronic problem. We're talking about £50million plus. You can't feck about with that sort of money. You'd think that fans of the club who went through the Hargreaves debacle would be particularly aware of that.

because we spent 100m, do you really believe we have ''unlimited'' funds. If we spent 200m already you wouldnt ask the same question. It is either Vidal or Di Maria, theoretically we could buy both if you listen what Woody says. I wouldnt mind us buying Di Maria, but i cant see the club spending the money on him either.

no problem with it if we really have our doubts about his injury, surely the medical experts would know the probability of a complete healing process.

15 Weeks ago he had a procedure done that should be a 6-8 week recovery. Until about a week ago he wasn't training with the team, and a day or two ago, it was reported that he had ice on his knee. So he definitely delayed his recovery by playing in the World Cup, and any team should be wary as to why he still needs to ice it almost 8 weeks after playing his last game. At best, he just delayed his recovery. But who knows if there are longer term or recurring effects that are likely to come.

Back from my weeks ban. Not sure what's more frustrating, that, or that the Vidal stories were in fact bollocks.
Come on Caf, Believe

For someone who is "fit" he's not playing a lot of football. Or any football actually - which given its preseason - the time where clubs get their players match fit tells you a lot.

He had an op in the summer and was rushed back for the World Cup. Any club interested in a player like that should be sensible and check it all out thoroughly before committing the best part of £70 - £80 million on fees and wages.

It's no good spending money on a player who a) wont be the player you wanted in the first place, or b) is mostly injured.

An injury might not be career ending - bug it could have a huge effect on a box to box midfielder playing at a level where very fine margins make the difference. His game is based on energy and running. A 5% reduction in his ability might seriously affect his game.

Good post. By rights he should be back playing now, not sat icing his knee. The fact that he isn't is a concern.

I'd love a fully fit Vidal here, he's a great player - but only if he's fully fit and going to be the player he was in Italy.

Of course it isn't a career ending injury. The question is whether he will be able to not only play at the highest level, but sustain that play as well. There's been plenty of sportsmen with meniscus injuries who have opted for the quick fix, who are then plagued with recurrent knee pain afterwards which restrict their play.

I think after the Hargreaves incident, the club is pretty careful about investing over 100 million pounds into a potentially dodgy knee.
