Arturo Vidal

Let's see how that is spun by the Vidal muppets.

I'll take this one.

It's very clear to see we were interested, but we wanted to give it time just to assess his knee. Now we have had enough time to see he is too much of a risk to obtaining a recurring injury, we have decided to no longer pursue him.

How did I do?

Not bad. That will do . Makes it sound like United were actually interested in him.

About right, he should have recovered but this stinks of juve being desperate to offload him like Hargreaves, he should not have played at the world cup

I agree, juve have been talking about Vidal all summer to get someone to buy him.

Its alrite lads, there is always the deadline day for Ed to work his magic. Perhaps he should get a crash course on wheelin and dealin from the Master Arry Redknapp.

Juve may have been shopping him around knowing full well that his knee is fecked. So many people here just want to believe...but you have to trust our people and their assessment. Also, he is not a spring chicken. Might only have a couple of years at the top so some outrageous fee is just not smart.

He's 27...that's a player in his prime. Not exactly old. Way more than a couple of years left at the top.

I honestly don't mind waiting for Strootman...I think he is the man LVG has decided on a long time ago....LVG probably flirted with the idea of Vidal but realized that if we can stay within distance until January then he can land a player who he probably trusts more than Vidal and who would also probably be happy to play for considerably less money and who also is a born leader

At least 3 times as serious. By the time he gets back to playing he'll have been out for almost 1 whole year. Not a lot of players come back well from these injuries

There's no way we're placing all our chips on Strootman...if we are, then the club has lost its marbles.

Right about now is where the DOF would have stepped in...or a few months ago but whatever.

You never know if Strootman could pull a De Rossi. De Rossi would have probably joined United if we went in for him before the deadline Roma set for him last season. We didn't and later on in the season, Roma were second and challenging for the title while we were languishing in 7th. De Rossi was rather relieved he didn't join us. Something similar could happen again this season but not as bad as us being 7th but we could be struggling to break into the top 4 come January if we really want to postpone sorting out our midfield.

As huge a Vidal muppet as I am there is no value in signing a guy with doubts about his knees. It's not as if he played all preseason and we are being difficult about price. But our spending had better not be over.

I hereby declare the Vidal saga to be dead. Not based on any fresh news or anything but I feel that with 10 days remaining in the transfer window theres no chance Juventus would let him go.

Still get the feeling that our final signing is either going to be Di Maria or Vidal, and it could go right to the wire.

Could sign someone like Blind in the meantime.

Please somebody on here tell me why people think we can just wait until January and sign Roma's best player (along with pjanic)!?

Yes he is Dutch and LvG favours him. So what. We could be languishing in the league come January, Roma will no doubt be challenging Juventus for the top spot and be playing CL football and not want to sell a player they only signed last summer.
Rudi Garcia has also said there is no chance they will let Strootman go and if we do bid it would have to be something ridiculous like 79m before they would let him go. Add the fact Ed is just a complete fecking tool I really cant get my head around the arrogance people show on this forum about the ease in which we will sign him.

Exactly, Roma had a very good TW and they wont one of their most important players in the middle of the season, especially if they'll be challenging for the title which I think they will.
I dont know where does that idea of us going for Strootman in January and Roma letting him go comes from but it has catch up with numerous posters.

Good points being made re. Storotman & January. Unless a player is out of favour it is very difficult to sign players in Jan, esp big regular 1st team players in big teams who are challenging for trophies. You can forget about Strootman in Jan there is a possibility next summer though.

We need to sign a quality midfielder in the next 10 days or it will be another long hard season.

I know it's a strange one for sure.

Its funny how the player Fergie wanted Strootman, Moyes didn't, then the player Moyes wanted Kroos, Van Gaal didn't.
Now if he doesn't want Vidal because of the price and knee issues fair enough. But I do not believe for a second Van Gaal thinks he has a midfield that can compete until the new year before once again trying to strengthen. Carrick who I believe is slightly overrated with regards to what he actually brings to the team is still our best midfielder apart from Herrera. Even if he was fit right now I'd worry.
Unfortunately for us though we have to rely on only four midfield players and with two of them being borderline useless I really pray that LvG has another target signed by September 1st.

I am completely bemused by this whole thing.

Every single noise from the Juve camp has been that he is not for sale, but everyone just seems to ignore that. I don't get it.

I think Ed is clearly just polishing up this bid ready for January. it'll take too long to prepare this summer, no point rushing something.

Going with the current midfield into a new season is a recipe for disaster I'm afraid..

So RVP and Mata don't count?

Are you joking? They're our players FFS they're not transfers hence they are shit now. All that matters are new transfers. Vidal and Di Maria will become boring and shit when they join too and another player will be the flavour of the day.

Aye. They keep saying "unless he asks to leave", which it's pretty apparent he won't so unless we go in with a massive bid - which there's not a chance we will - then it's a no go. People were seduced by the foreign media claims. Seems pretty clear to me this has been largely driven by either Vidal or the media.

It is not the seriousness of Vidal's injury, it's the far too early return for the World Cup that is the problem. Strootman will be fit before he starts playing again, and will likely be playing again for 2-3 months before we have to decide to go in for him.

In terms of long term outlook, a torn ACL is better to have than a bad meniscal tear. The menisci are complex structures and I have no idea how bad the tear was, the kind of tear it was, other than lateral, or how it was repaired. The best surgeons can do ACL grafts that are very, very durable. Meniscal repairs are far more complex in terms of maintaining proper functioning. Also, the poor lad played way too early on that post op knee in the WC.

Alright boys and girls, I've thrown the towel in on this one. Fekked knee = no Vidal.

I don't think we can ride our luck in the first half of the season and not deal with the situation now. Whether it's Khedira, De Jong, Carvalho or someone else, we have to act.

And we shouldn't assume Strootman will be available in January anyway.

Kudos to those keeping this thread alive on the teensiest bits of scraps you've been given. You've done muppets all around the world proud.
