Has his agent reached in Turin yet? What did Vidal have for dinner yesterday?

Not feeling confident of us signing ANYONE this summer. LVG seems happy with squad and wants to trim it after reading his comments from yesterday.
Vidal isn't going to happen, thats for sure. Hope im wrong but it looks less likely by the day.

Im preparing myself for yet another underwhelming and demoralising transfer window, but am excited for the new season.

I think we'll sign one central defender and call it a day.

I'm not sure what are you talking about here

Louis Van Gaal said:
- I have inherited a broken Manchester United squad
- It is not in balance. It’s more difficult to succeed in a difficult situation than in a fantastic situation

In anticipation of Vidal's announcement later today, bout to rub one out and go to bed here in California. When I refresh this thread in 8 hours, expect it'll surpass 400 pages and sticky keyboards everywhere.

He mentioned that the were to many players for each individual position and that we have quality in each area.

"When you look at the squad, there is quality. There is (Wayne) Rooney, (Robin) van Persie, (Javier) Hernandez, (Danny) Welbeck, but you also see Juan Mata, (Marouane) Fellaini, and you see (Ander) Herrera. There are a lot of players that can play in the same position. It is not in balance. It's more difficult to succeed in a difficult situation than in a fantastic situation."

What i read into his quote above is that there is to much quality covering the same areas, not that we lack quality in certain areas which is what you might expect him to say should he feel that the squad needs strengthning. His quotes actually suggest the opposite.

So forget Vidal, forget Di Maria, forget Reus, forget Cavanni, forget Hummels, forget Benatia, forget Blind, forget Strootman, forget Vermealen BUT United fans rejoice because Cleverley believes he is Van Gaals type of midfielder (12 months after believing he is a Spanish type midfielder)

This is what you will expect!

I don't know why you think that it is one or the other, because it's obviously both and he means it. He told us quite literally that we're short in defense and that we will badly miss Carrick, which is true - he understands that this squad needs another CM and CB (probably even 2).

I don't expect us to sign Cavani and thank god for that, by the way or Di Maria (as he is still a mix between winger, attacking and central mid) but we do need to strengthen our midfield and Van Gaal knows it better than anyone.

After re-reading then yes, what you say makes sense.... Almost suggesting that all our quality is in the forward thinking areas..... Doesnt mention anything of the quality in the defensive zones so i think you are right. I didnt interpret his quotes this way!

If Fellaini does indeed head off to Napoli, it will only keep the Vidal transfer rumour going until either he/club declare he is staying, he moves to another club or the transfer window closes. I'm still convinced we'll have a better idea of what's really happening as the week goes on.

I wish we'd move to other targets if this has been all bullshit

If it has been all bullshit then it is only us muppets in here wasting our time, the club will have been focused on bringing in the players LVG wants.

Even though the agent talks will happen today, I don't think we'll hear anything until at least tomorrow.

The second the agent comes out and mentions that he's staying, I'll say this is dead. Until then, this is as good as on.

I'm amazed at the negativity after yesterday. Did anyone expect Juve to say that Vidal wanted to leave? There was a lot of "think" and "we want" yesterday from Juve. It all depends on what Vidal and his agent say.

The Chilean Manager of Deloitte, or some guy that works for them anyway has said United are close to Vidal.

He was the gent who more or less confirmed that Sanchez would sign fot us.

I don't even care if he joins us anymore just want this to be over. I'm assuming by the end of the week Vidal or his agent will come out and say he will stay at Juventus or his leaving.

TORINO - The first (re) post-holiday meeting between Arturo Vidal and Juventus, even if it does not guarantee the permanence of the Chilean in Turin, however, provides some reassurance. As stated in the same black and white, for now Juventus has not received any formal offers for Vidal, nor the latter has explicitly requested to be transferred. On the contrary."I'm happy to stay at Juventus," he raised the midfielder. It is up to the agent, "We have very clear ideas: from our side there is no intention to sell Arturo - he said Marotta at the presentation of the calendars -. There were alerted to put it on the market, as there is a position on his part to be sold. If Arturo does not show the will to go away then continue with him. On the other hand, we have renewed the contract last season because we knew we could count on an important element. I really think that Vidal will be in camp with us in his debut season against Chievo. " Juventus highlights and strengthens its position: Vidal will continue to be a prominent feature of the Bianconeri pink, unless it is the same midfield to ask to leave. And here stands the figure of Fernando Felicevich, the agent of former Argentine Leverkusen. In order for the Juve becomes available to begin negotiations on output to Vidal, serves well in fact an offer hard to refuse.PLAYER OF THE WEIGHT - the same one that Felicevich - his imminent arrival in Italy - would be ready to pay a Marotta. Sender Manchester United, that of a strong financial capacity almost bottomless, would prompt the '"Offerton" at least 45 million euro. That can reverse the current position of a Juventus that, in the case of an officer taking the field for the Red Devils on Vidal, would not have the strength to compete with the English club. Faced with a proposal of engagement by more than 7 million net annual bonus, the Bianconeri we could only treat upwards, the cost of the tag Vidal. That, according to the current trend for some time now, has the final say. If the only decision of the Chilean will be to continue training in Vinovo, at the headquarters in Corso Galileo Ferraris just do not come any offer delivered by Felicevich;otherwise it will express the real intention of the player. What, if any, will be treated in this week: Juve want to start your tour of Asia and Oceania without the slope Vidal. Dentro (best) or outside (to the limit), but in a short time.

Come on, let's have some news today whether it be good or bad. Fed up going home from work with a dead battery on my iphone. Might even get to concentrate on some work.

Dare I say it, but would a midfield trio of Herrara - Mata - Vidal....be the best in the league?

On paper, I think so.
On paper you could argue Matic, Fabregas and Oscar are the best but more importantly the most balanced since Matic is a natural defensive midfielder.

So after catching up, this is still very much on? Oh my! So, what time's this press conference and will Woody holding the shotgun to Marotta's back be visible or behind the scenes?

Vidal is everything Matic is plus a fair bit more. Sit him at #6 and he's still a better player for my money. I agree that the Chelsea midfield is very good, mind you. I think the biggest drop in quality is from Mata to Oscar, however. And 'ours' - I wish it was - has that bit more pace and energy.

Will people ever stop about this defensive midfielder nonsense? You don't necessarily need a defensive midfielder. All you need is one of your midfielders to hold when needed. If somehow united got Vidal, he is perfectly good at holding as is Herrara. They are both disciplined enough to do their jobs. Box to box midfielders, in my opinion, are better to have than a specialist defensive midfielder. This must be a Football Manager phenomenon or something.

The real question is: Is Herrera - Mata - Fellaini the best midfield in the league? I think we all know it is.

As for needing a DM, with 5 at the back, i shouldn't think it's a necessity, however I don't know how much I'd trust our CBs being completely exposed all the time. If Vidic was still here they'd probably be fine, but without, i dunno. I still think a CB is more important than a CM or winger this summer, we're seriously lacking in that area.
