Arturo Vidal

He's the type of manager who will insist on talent if he sees it. Even if that could cost him the job.

However I cant see how anyone can refuse Vidal or see him too expensive. He's the closest player I've seen to Roy Keane. Put him and Herrera in midfield and the EPL will probably be ours. That's how good he is.

I wouldnt go that far to say the EPL will be ours. United got more problems to sort out than just the midfield, the defense needs a solid, regular, starting back four and decent wingers. Vidal will be a huge boost in strengthen the midfield department but thats just the tip of the iceburg to make the club winning major trophies again.

Christ, people are so fecking over the top about this shit. If we got Vidal, we'd only need a top class CB to challenge for trophies. A top class winger too and I'd have us down as favorites for the title.

I said probably.

Vidal-Herrera will give stability in CM and would allow us to unleash our creativity spark to the full. We got some top quality creative players in the team with players like Mata, RVP, Rooney, Januzaj, Herrera and Kagawa.

I understand that we need a top quality CB and probably another LB if Evra leaves. However in my opinion, Vidal could be the missing piece which will lead us to glory. If he settles down well then in 4-5 years time we will be talking about him in the same way we presently talk about Cantona.

I think our defense will be fine if we can get a regular back 4 out. It's no coincidence that having so many changes left us without cohesion at the back.

Agree with those saying that there's no way United are balking at 36m for Vidal when we happily shelled out 30m for a 19yo Shaw.

We need another CB. It will give beefen the ranks and keep everyone on his toes. If Evra leaves a new lb is a must

We did bulked for Herrera despite spending 27m on the long ball merchant.

It's surely rubbish we just spent 27M on an 18 year, an extra 10M for one of Europe's best midfielders in a bargain.

I'm pretty sure we didn't 'happily' shell out 27m for Shaw. The negotiations to buy him went on for a long time and its just the same which could be happenining here.

I'd agree if we had European distractions, but we dont. LVG has all week to prepare for each Prem game (give or take). I just cant see us NOT winning our trophy back. I'm basing this confidence on the assumption that we'll sign another midfielder (hopefully Vidal) and at least one CB. LVG has a winning mentality that Moyes can only dream of. And you cant put a price on that. We WILL win the Prem

If the conversation happened at all, I imagine it was simply about trying to keep the price down.

It would be great to happen in the first season and his record shows he is capable if this but I'd be happy building a team this season, top four finish and challenging next season! If it happens then amazing if not we will challenge next season!

A few days ago people were talking about £48m, which I said I would be uncomfortable with us paying. £36m however is less than we paid for Mata and would be fine for a player of Vidals quality.

I do wonder if, if the talk of Evra leaving for Juventus is true, that will pave the way for a Vidal deal - not exactly a swap, but they have something we want and we have something they want. If so, I guess you could consider it as Evras final gift to the club

Yes what's happening now is simply negotiations. Easy to report it as 'balking at price' to generate clicks. Not 'happily' of course but you'd have to imagine that a club capable of paying that kind of money for young LB is surely capable of 36m for one of the best CMs in the world.

Actually no, I don't believe any of the rumours so far, I am just waiting for a reliable British source to start breaking it. At the moment it's just shit like the mirror, Daily Fail et al.

Well the Telegraph have confirmed the interest, the're about as reliable as papers get imo.

Agree with you. We have to remember that we are still a business and even a million saved is a million earned. I think we'll end up doing a deal eventually, as Juventus seem to need funds for their own transfer business.

To be honest I can't see this not happening now. Seems like negotiations are in full flow particularly seeing as Evra is going the other way (bit sad about that though to be honest). It's a new era though and I'm looking forward to seeing the new utd.

Oh i agree LVG has the time, the winning mentality and the experience to take united to winning ways again. He has proved that with the Netherlands in taking them to the semi-finals in this world cup. I'm just saying fans need to keep their feet on the ground. One top player doesn't solve on what happened last season. Vidal is a really good player and can really strengthen that midfield, but that just one problem solved over the other problems that need to be sorted. Most importantly the style of play, not once i seen united play a decent style of play last season, so Van Gaal needs to get them playing attractive style of football again.

There's been loads of rumors that Woodward wants a statement signing this summer, sorta to brush off his (and Moyes') embarrassing summer last year.
Which realistic target would be a bigger statement than signing Vidal?

Apparently Woodward and Fergie doesn't have the best of relationships, signing a statement player in an area of need that United fans cried for, for years, while Fergie continued to overlook it, surely that'll be something Woodward would LOVE.

Why do woody and Fergie not have the best of relationships?

Oh have they? Cheers
The twitter thread pages are flying at the moment, must of missed that one. I think that deserves a

Nothing on price or an official bid, but they definitely said there was interest, so that's a positive :). I think it will happen honestly.

EDIT: This was taken from their article on Evra yesterday.

"United remain interested in Arturo Vidal, the Juventus midfielder, and could grant Evra his wish in order to smooth future negotiations between the two clubs.

Vidal is rated at around £32million and new United manager Louis van Gaal is considering an offer after initial inquiries."

Who won a league medal?

Erm, totally irrelevant. Smalling won a league medal, does that make him better than Suarez? He did pretty much all he could possibly do.

He'll bring in far more silverware when he transfers.

Right seriously, can you all stop massively derailing the thread? Go and set-up your own "who is better out of RVP and Goofy" thread if you want.

He is just here to WUM. I have noticed in all the threads.

As for Vidal, is there actual any solid links that justify so many pages? This all seems like hopefulness.

Well for me there are the following levels of solidity:

1) Just some twitter chat, maybe picked up by the shitty websites and tabloids
2) Frequent mention in the broadsheets / journos close to the club
3) BBC reporting (outside of general gossip roundup)

We're at stage 2 and have been for a while, but I try not to get too excited about anything until step 3. We've been to step 2 with plenty of others before - Thiago, Fabregas etc.

Well I hope you get him as the more top players in the league the better. I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave Juventus but I can see Bayern snapping him up actually.

The Muppets need a Sir A1ex thread where you update them...

Vidal _ Stage 2
Herrera - Completed
Schwein - Stage 1 etc

 Yeah ok!

Andy Mitten yesterday reported that we have a very serious intention to go and get Vidal, Di Maria and Hummels. James Ducker has also reported today that we are monitoring the situation and are iffy about the £37.5m (47.5m euros) fee, most likely indicating the Evra deal is a good will gesture and Nani will be used in combination to push the deal through. Juve are already spending the money therefore it is widely regarded as a when not if sort of situation. The only snag being that potentially they could be spending money another club has offered for Pogba.

I wouldnt worry too much about the reports coming out that weve Baulked at the price, its a simple negotiation tactic used to levy Juves situation, we will pay £35m and Nani most likely which still represents huge value for them which is 43m euros and a player worth at least 8-10m and Evra who is worth 2m.

If only Fergie had scouted Germany in the first place we might have got him for about £16M a couple years back. Pretty odd move by the club really.

You mean if only Fergie scouted any CM rather than strikers and wingers.
