Arsenal - 2024/25

What about Zinchenko? Could easily play Timber RB and Zinchenko LB.
It was also Zinchenko first game in months as he’s returning from injury.

I wouldn’t say Arsenal fans were primarily blaming the defeat on injuries. Arteta himself has downplayed the effect and explicitly said it was down to refs or any external forces, we just deserved to lose the game.

We had quite a few unavailable against Liverpool where that was a factor. But Newcastle was a dreadful game for us and injuries were way down the list of reasons for that.

He was available for the last 2 PL games, was on the bench and played 60 mins in the league cup.

Liverpool game was 1 game and it was 1 extra injury.. White wasn't available, the rest were all the same.

Not really the point though, was it?
Well it kinda is the point, we'd have lost even worse if Zinchenko had played. He's only even near the team because Calafiori is injured and White couldn't start. That's without even mentioning the half fit Timber and Gabriel. It's disingenuous to say we were only one player short of our best XI

Zinchenko was on the bench because he was coming back from an injury that ruled him out of every match since the end of August. The 60 minutes he played in the League Cup was nursing him back from injury, chucking in a half fit play player to mark Salah is something we tried to avoid. So much so that we brought on a teenager who has yet to make a league start at LB instead.

Our first choice back line when we’ve had everybody fit this season is

Califiori Gabriel Saliba Timber

Gabriel came off injured early in the second half so finished the game with none of those on the pitch. We were (and still are) also missing Tomiyasu who is one of our first choice rotation options as he’s 6’3”, two footed and can play all across the back line.

I don’t think you know all that much about Arsenal’s squad, which makes sense as you’re not Gooner. But player availability was very much an issue against Liverpool and some games prior to that.

It was far less of a problem against Newcastle, which is why Arteta said that the loss wasn’t bad luck, it was on us as a team.

I know about Arsenal's squad.. player availability v injuries is two different topics. I was talking about injuries, where Arsenal fans are crying about.

In respects to Vs Liverpool, Saliba being out was his fault getting sent off the game before. Tomiyasu is no longer first choice rotation option. Ben White Calafiori and Timber are the main options.

I mean its funny that you are moaning that a teenager is being asked to play LB but I have seen so many Arsenal fans asking for Nwanyeri to start.

I think maintaining the form of the last 2 seasons was always going to be hard work. Dont let Saka or Odegaard get injured isn't really a realistic expectation. They've been pretty lucky with injuries the last 2 seasons. You look at chelsea, newcastle, us and probably half a dozen other teams last season and their injuries and absenses are just brutal. With the number of games thats probably going to be pretty common.
Your first choice defence / midfield / striker not being available is just somethign teams will have to deal with and Arsenal have better options than most really. No one will really care how good their excuses for dropping down the table are.

Damn Arsenal have become a proper set piece team this season. Only really look dangerous from corners.

Loooots of pressure on Odegaard to lift them now.

Wonder if he's got an hour in him at the weekend. Needs to be him or Nwaneri, Trossard is an impact from bench player, too often goes missing when starting.

They said on comms during the game that he’s hardly trained properly yet, so I honestly doubt he starts at the Bridge, might come on the final 30 mins or so.

But the pressure on Odegaard to lift his team out of this slump feels massive. I think he’ll do it too, but his absence has highlighted just how over reliant Arsenal had become on him.

If he's not fit to start, start Nwaneri then. We need a spark centrally, Trossard certainly isn't providing it.
Spamming crosses won't cut it.

They never give penalties when keepers come out for a cross and clatter into players, why would they start doing it for fecking Arsenal of all teams? No one gives fouls when they use basketball screening at every corner too.

Yeah, they actually do. Onana did the same and Copenhagen got a penalty, and Argentina got one at the World Cup.

Yeah they put absolutely everything into last season in particular and their form was outstanding and it still wasn't enough. People say it should make them even more determined but it doesn't always work out like that.

Injuries are obviously hurting them but I wouldn't be surprised to see them have a poor season.

It's united, so it's different. Just like the De Ligt one which costed ETH his job.

Why do people believe they if we had drawn against westham eth would still be in job ?
There's zero evidence to believe otherwise.

That after all this time, somewhere right in the middle of two international breaks, he would be sacked because of a draw where, tbf we played for large parts of the game.

I don’t know how they didn’t get a penalty when Sommer clattered into Merino. It was a clear pen.

I actually thought from the replays that Sommer got a bit of the ball, which was why it wasn't referred. Otherwise I also think it should've been a penalty.

Sommer got the ball 1st. I remember thinking that sommer had done an Onana and then i saw he got the ball.

Arsenal fans should stop crying, it was never a penalty as the following video suggest:

Sommer clearly touched the ball, everyone can see it.
That tweet from ESPN UK was embarassing, chose arbitrary pictures to induce people to believe the GK went straight to Merino

Course he did, that's why it was a corner. I thought this was never in doubt. The game last night, with 40+ crosses, reminded me of a game we had with Moyes I believe, where we had 40+ crosses, and it ended up 1-1. Cant recall the game. Funny as hell, Trossard crossing it to Saka on the back post.

Moyes vs Fulham 81 crosses.
Arteta is an amateur!

I watched this on the game. When they said there was/could be a VAR check I was laughing to myself, I thought the PL VAR was bad.

Absolutley pathetic to be looking for that, although the handball rule is also stupid, Inter's was never a penalty. Neither was the one in the City game.

With EtH gone, I think the media will just go at Arsenal/Arteta for their poor results. A few more of these bad results and Arteta will be under a lot of focus/pressure.
Media needs a good drama and poor results are feeding them exactly what they want.

We don't have enough attacking options, especially no recognized striker. Flat everywhere, and our midfield is very average at the moment.

I think this was evident today too. With Edu leaving, is Arteta the all powerful being on transfer decisions? Are they (Arsenal) likely to get a decent striker in Jan?

Titles gone

The amount of silly points we have dropped this season. Many other games it was Artetas stubbornness to not play Nwaneri when we had no Odegaard. I've said it before, he's very good but he's reactive. Not proactive.

A point at an in form Chelsea isn't terrible by any means but today did feel like they needed a big performance considering they now had their strongest lineup. Didn't happen.

I think Arteta has done some really excellent work for a couple of years but the criticism about not winning things rings a bit louder when the underlying performances drop off like this.
