Arsenal 2023/24 - Born to be runner up

I didn’t see anything of him last season, but I think Arsenal’s asking price is like over £50M, which is a hefty price. I doubt any of those teams will come to the table at that fee. Neither will anyone else probably.
Before West Ham offered 30m for a 30 year old Maguire I would agree with you. I hope Arsenal in the end doesn't price him out for his move.

I think they’ll finish top 4 but will be a struggle. Newcastle look like they’ll have another decent season. Brighton may finish top 6 aswell.

I know football has moved on a bit from only a couple of years ago, the fees have gone even crazier, but Chelsea sold Tammy for £34M and I think he had proven a lot more at that point in his career than Balogun has so far. I think £50M would price him out of a move completely.

Apparently £50m, but for Spurs and Chelsea it's more. ;)

Can see a sale at £40m ish to a West Ham or a Fulham type team before the window shuts.

Yeah, that seems like a bit too much, even in this inflated market.

Openda sold for 43m euro and people are talking about Wahi in the 35m euro range. Balogun maybe gets a little bonus due to generating more commercial possibilities as a US striker, but talent wise I don't think he is above those players.

Chelsea seem to be genuinely interested in him. And I’ve seen other reports that personal terms have been agreed. Matt Law has started reporting our interest too. I just know Arsenal won’t let us have him for a fair fee

I mean you just paid 100m for a decent DM with a season of top flight football behind him, why would they let him go for a fair fee when they know you're in desperate need of a striker?

I’m not saying they should. I guess I should added ‘and rightly so’ at the end there but I thought the  would suffice. I’m just saying a move to Chelsea is extremely unlikely considering they probably really don’t want to sell him to us.

65 mil + 1

If Monaco can't offer enough, i'd be fine with letting him go to Chelsea for 50+.
He doesn't want to wait for his chance so if he thinks Chelsea is where he will get it, goodbye. He will get benched, loaned out and dissapear by next summer when Todd looks for a new shiny striker.

It is probably not a good idea for his development. Balogun should join a club he will start every week. It is better for him to join Monaco, Fulham or even Crystal Palace.

I mean that’s kinda what he’s facing at Arsenal right now. Bench, loan or be sold.

I hope Arsenal can agree a fee with Monaco. It is better for the player. May be they can insert a buy back clause in the deal to make up for the lower fee.

Don't understand why Trossard doesn't play tbh.
Every time he comes on he seems to make a difference and haven't really seen him have a bad game yet. I though he'd be a lock for the false 9 when Jesus got injured but I guess Nketieh is doing decently alright.

He should go to Monaco. It’s better for him and it’s better for Arsenal. I just think Arsenal probably assumed they could cash in on his good season and make bank this summer. If they were willing to let him for £25-30M, there’s be more takers and he could well have been gone already.

Looks permanently tired

Looks like Balogun is off to Monaco for about 40? Starting to recoup some of this massive outlay. We still have Holding, Samba, Tavares, Tierney and of course Pepe to find a home for. Tierney is definitely the pick of the bunch but Holding I feel would do well in a lower half of the table team. I would rather keep Tierney myself. That is amazing depth for a season at the back. I haven't seen Vieira's name tossed around but I am wondering if we are trying to ship him off as well.

Tierney is going out on loan.

Feel saddened by the news Tierney looks on his way on loan to Real Sociedad. He was one of our best players during our lowest times in recent years. Such a shame he just doesn't fit into our playing style now. Feel his injury record has also inhibited our ability to sell him.

Think he's been hard done by to be honest. I get the playing style thing Vs a Timber or Zinchenko, but he's a better option than Tomiyasu at left back. Unless he's a victim of needing to raise some funds, then I don't like the way he's been treated.

Arsenal being unable to find a buyer for Tierney is surprising.

Also a bit surprised there isn't even a little bit of criticisms around Arsenal binning Balogun without giving him a chance.

Balogun want to get regular first team minutes, we cant promise him that, so i think given that a move is probably best for both parties, no?

Monaco would be a good place for Balogun to further develop. He wants guaranteed playing time and we certainly couldn't do that. Maybe he will get a bigger move when he is around 24 or so. Here, he would have to fight with Nketiah, Jesus and even Trossard for scraps. None of them are impossible to dislodge but the opportunities to get in there would be limited.

Tierney is quality, although slightly unreliable due to his injury record. Sad to see him go. Not sure I quite get the loan move but I guess it's wages off our books.

Balogun and Nketieh share the same agent and both are clearly behind Jesus.
And Trossard/Havertz can also play there. So there is no way you could possibly keep both happy and thus one had to leave.

This is maybe the biggest problem we have left. We have lots of decent options upfront, just not a great one. The Jesus from the beginning of last season remains the best we have, but personally I think we should be playing Trossard also a little more.

If we have another record money breaking transfer left in us, this is the position for it.

Didn’t watch the game (will rely on motd) but would have expected arsenal to see it out at home against 10 men.
What happened?

Zinchenko gave away a bit of a cheap corner. Then we fell asleep defending it. Poor again, losing absolute comical goals at home and making it an uphill battle from the off.

I can't understand how we are quite solid away from home in terms of conceding goals, yet we are so feckin slack at home.

Thanks for the reply.
As much as I inherently dislike arsenal doing well, last season was way above expectations and will grudgingly accept that.
Havertz is an odd signing, doesn’t seem to plug any obvious gap , but martinelli and saka will bail you out more often than not, perhaps today was the “not”.
If you had signed a “proper” 9 then I think you’d be a real force.

Is Partey really out for 3 months?

That's 1 of the rumours. Nothing mentioned by the club yet, Ghana FA have said he won't be available for international games due to an injury in training, seen anything from a couple of weeks to 3 months mentioned.

ETH won't believe his eyes when he sees Havertz at RB

The start to this season has been very difficult. Losing some key players to injuries and Arteta tinkering with the line-up. I didn't think we would be discussing our CB pairing at this time. We had that nailed down.

What kind of supporter leaves a game a like this. It’s 1-1, games on a knife’s edge, it’s the 90th min. It’s a nail biter ffs :wenger:

I know it’s early days but last season they looked more solid. Can’t be out played how they were today by us in the second half of the match (and what I’ve seen of them in general this season) and rely on luck/two good moments. Always catches up later in the season.

They are not winning the PL this season. Blew it last season with that 8 point lead.
