Arjen Robben

I'd buy Robben for 8m.

yep. We know he's a top player on his day and he's still young enough to get over the problems. Nothing above 10 million though certainly

That's ridiculous.

Glen Johnson cost £17.5m. Glen Johnson!

Glen Johnson is a team player who plays regularly.

Robben is as greedy as Ronaldo on his worst day. Only Ronaldo would likely at least score once from his greedy play. Robben is very unproductive. Not even one of the top 10 most productive wingers in La Liga last season. He dribbled well though so people started comparing him with Messi. Funny stuff.

I would prefer if we signed Elton John or Graham Norton for the wing instead of Robben!! They would be less dramatic and injured less!!

And unlike most of our players they like to get behind the defenders

Apparently there where quotes from Robben saying that LvG has offered him a chance to go to United and that he will consider the offer after the WC. Has anyone got a link to these quotes from Robben?

I think this was shot down as just a lie/twitter rumour.

I'm guessing its a made up quote, firstly it'd be very stupid considering he would be disrespecting his club and secondly LVG would be done for tapping up players. I think after his WC so far if there was any chance he would consider a move we'd be mad not to try if the money was right.

I think there's a chance hme mighe end up here. He's probably only got one big move left and could get a tidy pay rise - which is a potential factor if nothing else.

Only chance is when Holland wins the World Cup and they all get so smashed that Robben ends up signing for LVG on a napkin at 5 in the morning. And then he still won't join us. Seriously, he is the main man at Bayern, Guardiola loves him and he will not leave them for us. 0% chance.

It still drives me mad, how robben was not part of the ronaldo deal that would see us get 80 million plus robben

Yeah. Because he gets peanuts now. The richest club in the world(excluding outsiders like Roman) cant pay you as good or better then United.
Yes. You are spot on. Not.

To Robben; he is the best player so far. He was always not far from Messi and Ronaldo but since he is at Bayern our doc(the best around) linked his injuries troubles to his back and they got better and better by the years.
He is fully fit, 30(great experience) and a TOP TOP pro. No one works more.
Im German and we and the Dutch you know. ;)
But if he would win the world cup as the superstar he would join the very greats of the game.(done anything else, his titles account is crazy)
And he deserves that so much.

Ferguson never really signed other top club's discards.

and? so its best to sign lesser players from smaller clubs? by that mentality its not pretty shrewd, and I wonder who signed him? ah yes LVG the current MUFC manager. And the signing of robben helped knock united out of the CL

He went to Chelsea over United for more money so he has previous. He might have one big move left - and if LVG really wants him, what might United be opreapred to pay? £200k a week? More?

Bayern wouldnt want to lose him, but I wouldn't rule it out 100%.

He has the perfect package at Bayern. Said so since years. Top medical staff, great money, great coach, monster team. Only Real could challenge us in my book. Proof a last point there. But even that seems FAR off to me.

We got mugged off in the Ronaldo deal on a whole. £80m + Robben and Sneijder would have been a good deal for them.

That sums fergie up between 2009 - 2013, he contradicts himself with the value for money mentality getting 80 million plus robben, is not value for money?

yup, transfers wise it is. we kind of missed the fergei that asked for cantona instead after the leeds chairman called him for irwin.

Real would have done anything to get ronaldo, adding the fact madrid wanted to sell robben, so it could have been a perfect ronaldo replacement

People are applying hindsight values to what was at the time a world record fee.

just like mr offside posted above, we could probably asked for robben ,sneijder + £80m that summer.

yea we could have got both, imagine this lineup after losing ronaldo for the 2009/10 season

VDS
rafeal ferdinand vidic evra
carrick fletcher
nani sneijder robben
rooney

nani sneijder robben and rooney could have easily got us all double figures that year, but oh well

He might be more than happy where he is. Doesn't mean a move wouldn't appeal if the terms were right.

People can scoff but he evidently has a good relationship with LVG and could potentially - if the circumstances were right bag himself one last huge contract before he gets too old. I recall a story from when he was at PSV and was more concered with his bonus that winning the title. It seems he likes to get paid.

I obviously dont know the bloke, or if LVG would push for the club to sign him - I'm just saying I wouldn't rule it out. LVG has built a side around him, I'm sure he'd love to have him in his team.

Not when the club needed to replace ronaldo, and valencia obertan and owen was not sending a message of intent. United may have been the only club with the current ownership structure in place, that decided to sell ronaldo for 80 million, lose tevez and not replace either player, especially when berbatov was struggling to settle in. There were players out there, aguero, sanchez, robben, sneijder, yet fergie's only double figure signing, was? valencia for 17 million. Yes hindsight is there, but even back then fans were not happy with the reaction for losing to barca, selling ronaldo and tevez leaving, we sign no one that would improve us, and valencia was a steady signing

To be fair, regarding Robben, whilst he was a good player in the PL he looked fragile at times and was often injured. WIkpedia reckons 67 appearences in 3 seasons, which isn't the best record.

I suspect he's surprised a few with how well he's done at Bayern to be honest. With injury prone players who rely on pace you often worry how long they'll last at the top level.

Yes he was injury prone, but he was risk worth taking when you have lost CR7. Let us not forget the money fergie spent on hargreaves, and his injury record blows robbens out of the water

Hargreaves wasn't perrenially injured before United signed him - only after.

Robben would, evidently have been a good signing, but I can see why fergie would have had doubts. Easy to look back now with the benefit of hindsight.

Right. So you spent an extra paragraph explaining why, with hindsight, we should have had more. Which is entirely my point. Much as people on here like to delude themselves, the people at our club aren't idiots. Getting £20m odd more than the world transfer record for a player we had already agreed to let go was reasonable business. Of course with hindsight, his subsequent performances and the inflation of fees, they've had more than good value from him.

It means that a move does not appeal to him.

Look on Arjen's story - he was a vagabund and has seen a lot of clubs and leagues - never prolonged a contract - and did it now the second time at Munich. He feels well, earns well, has mates he likes, his familiy feels at home... - and has a contract until 2017 and a club and a coach that values him.

He will end his career in Munich or will only transfer to the Netherlands to make a last year at a club there.

There is really no chance.

I do not think it is hindsight to sell ronaldo for 80 million, and not look to strengthen the squad, that is common sense. Especially getting outclassed by barca, let us not forget how berbatov was struggling to settle in, which made us very light upfront. Like I say losing ronaldo and tevez, and not strengthening the attack was very dumb indeed from the club

And 2 madrid possible cast offs, If di maria and marcelo are available, that is 2 signings that could improve the 2 area's of the field we need badly, even though marcelo defensive wise maybe iffy. If shaw is too expensive why not sign 2 proven players at the highest level
