Are United done after De Gea, Jones and Young?

If we don't make a new signing every 2-3 days, until the Premier League starts again....then that's it. I'm going to support City

Could be and it would be a good summer as that to me means were going to develop some youth. So we'll have strengthened the squad to allow for the next superstars to come along.

IF we were finished with Young, De Gea and Jones being our only signings, we'd probably only see the true value of them in three years or so, but I think it's very likely we'll have bought two of the best players in their positions in the world in De Gea and Jones, which is great business for £35m, or whatever it'll be. Or to put it another way, roughly the same as it cost City to get Lescott and Jo.

I don't expect us to be done at these three.

We've still got to replace Paul Scholes, I'm sure we'll try for someone else. I'm sure our hand was forced on Jones, probably rather have waited a season for Ferdinand to be a year older, but interest from others meant we had to make a move. So, I'm sure that'll be something that has perhaps been found now from future season's budgets if you see what I mean, and that we will still look at a midfielder

Daft thread

There is nothing to suggest this is the end of business for United. There is much more money available, and when you take into consideration players leaving the club and the way the wage bill has plummeted with the departure of VDS, Scholes and Hargreaves, I would not be surprised to see one final big signing in the middle of the park.

Can't see why the OP's getting so much stick.

I think we will be in the market for a midfielder but Fergie's not going to panic buy in this position and if he cannot attract the player he wants I could easily see him relying on the set of central players he has as it his disposal(e.g. Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Giggs, Park, Cleverley, Jones). There's plenty of talented youngsters stepping up to the reserves this season as well.

De Gea, Jones and Young represent a big outlay and the most we have spent in the transfer market for a long periodof time. The squad overall looks very, very good.

One top quality central player would top it off mind you and have me going into next season full of confidence and optimism.

I think he is getting stick for simply ruling out any further signings with little to no foundation for doing so.

United spend big when they need to. The wages and finances are certainly there.

There's no way saf is not going to at least try and sign a decent cm. End of.

Agreed, no-one is going to convince me that after the Barca game, Fergie doesn't know we need to strengthen the central area. We clearly need someone who can keep the ball, carry the ball forward and then use it wisely.

Haven't really got a clue who he is looking at, could be any of the usual suspects, or it could be someone not yet mentioned.

My gut says Nasri, regardless of Wenger taking the usual 'no chance stance' common when dealing covertly with rivals. Similar to Madrid's present denial they are after Aguero, and Atletico's claim they will not sell him to Madrid, so it's probably a done deal, just a question of how to justify such a deal and who is to blame for such a deal occuring! :smirk:

I have a suspicion that Jones has been bought to play DM initially. He is a powerful determined player and is very, very comfortable on the ball. I think Fergie sees a touch of Desailly in Jones ability-wise, combined with the blood and guts commitment of a Steve Bruce.

I also believe he has now made his choice picking Jones over Rodwell. Rodwell is probably more of an athlete, but lacks the will to win that Jones possesses. Allardyce really rates this kid and thinks he has got what it takes to be a great, and Fergie obviously concurs.

Let's hope they are proved right!

Modric, Muller and Benzema still to come. Also heard that some cahp called Messi is was also seen as Heathrow airport with a Man Unted scarf around his neck.

What if we signed Wesley Sneijder, Modric and Nasri to make up a completely new midfield backed with a defensive holder chosen from Fletcher, Carrick or Anderson.

Just how nuts would this forum go?! Thats £80m + the annual £25m + the extra revenue SAF should get for success in the PL and CL should mean his pockets are bulging with £50 notes!!!

With the loss of Neville, Scholes, VDS and a few more, the wage bill should be abe to
some big names.

I just hope they all gell very quickly so we dont end up looking like Madrid misfits who cant play together. Thats why Rio, JOS, Carrick etc HAVE TO STAY so the traditions of the club can quickly be ingrained into our new recruits.

Im already buzzing about next season. cant bloody wait!

Not odd at all. Sanchez goes to Barcelona, Modric goes to Chelsea, Sneijder announces he'll stay at Inter, Nasri extends his contract at Arsenal - there you go, we're done.

Not to mention Adam to Liverpool and Defour to Spartak Moscow.

ok. well, we've only confirmed one out of said three for a start

and there are more players in the world than those we're linked with in papers

It's in other threads, but Ferguson not signing a central midfielder is very unlikely imo

Lads, just admit it; you're going to have to get used to seeing Gibson on the team sheet next season.

..but there are also more midfielders coming through aleady at the club.

But gambit still has Hamsik right??

no, I just won't have it

There's a thread at the moment re passers, Gibson's so far off the Premier League list it's unreal

We need a midfielder, badly. Just look at the farce of a champions League final and various other games where we basically didn't have one, or player Carrick by himself

I guess its possible - Fergie's pulled off surprises before.

It would be wierd though if our second biggest hole in terms of position (after Goalkeeper) isn't filled and we spend 40 or so million for positions - Central Defense and Wing where we have plenty of strength. If it was a question of money, i'd rather we spent that 40 on just one Cm that Fergie identified.

You've got to trust the man I guess. He hasn't won 12 titles by making the wrong choices or buying the wrong players but it would still be puzzling.

I may be the only one who feels this way but I wouldn't mind not signing another midfielder and Gibson getting game time with the possibility of Pogba being integrated into the team over the next couple of years.

If there was ever a time to give young players a chance it's now after securing number 19 and us entering a period of transition whether we like it or not because of the players we've lost this year.

If Gibson does stay I admit it will most likely be a make or break season for him but if he is still here it would be nice if the fans supported him. Some of our support is frankly embarrassing at times.

Supporting United should be seen as a privilege not a right and the same applies to winning every week and signing star names every summer.

I'm not condoning the people who hounded the lad off Twitter, but I see nothing wrong with thinking that a player of ours isn't good enough and should be flogged off to Sunderland or the like. If he proves me wrong, all the better.

:wenger:

Strayed way off into Top Red-ism here.

I firmly believe we are done in the transfer market for this summer, with regard to purchases.
