Are the Glazers preparing for a sale? | Saudis deny the news

Haha

On another note, I am of the belief that only way we will become a top team again and continuously challenge for the PL/CL is if we are sold and are at least able to reinvest everything we make back into the team.

How else can you compete with teams that actually make more money than you and do exactly that (Real, Barca) or clubs that have supplemental outside money coming in (Coty, PSG)??

Yeah to be fair mate what we need is someone who can afford us and then allow us to operate at the figures we make. Just someone who doesn't need to take money front he club. Problem is our value is so high that it will take one of these awful regimes to free us of the Glazers. In hindsight we earn enough as a club to compete with City and PSG on a legit level compared to their doping. I do see us as ripe for a takeover because pay the 4 billion and clear the debts and you have to pump very little into the club if you just allow us to run off of turnover alone. City and PSG being small clubs needed proper investment whereas we just need someone to clear the debt and allow us to run with the money we earn each year. feck the Saudis though!

The issue is not spending, it is how we spend it. We are big spenders on the world stage, we are just wasting money. You dont need to buy players for 300m to be successful

We've had a few spells of big spending but in 2008 we had a world class team and even with the loss of players like Ronaldo and tevez we reached 2 more CL finals and only lost both to one of the best teams ever assembled.

Forward 11 years we have a 32 year old left winger at right back,a squad full,of average players and are shitting ourselves about the next couple of games because players like Jessie lingard are injured.

When we sold ronaldo and started to replaced him with the likes of Valencia Owen and obertan was our sling doors moment.

Where do you draw the line? You don't mind someone that owns slaves, shits on women and allows them to be stoned to death for nothing and is rich because he's in a position to screw over a whole nation. Kim Jong-Un would be fine as well?
Feck politics, everyone is corrupted on their on ways. We talk about investments in football here.

Manchester United is a club dying for some investments...

It is all relative but we clearly need investment on the pitch. We also need investment in the structure of the club which has been happening and the stadium needs updating as well.

Exactly. All we need is a better job on our recruitment and our selling of deadwood.

Dying? No
Need big investments YES. Look around us, can we invest in the squad and be challenging City? Do the Glazers spend enough? They make crazy money from our club though. I think it's time for them to feck off.

I've been reading as well as you on here, about the crown Prince, supposedly trying to buy UTD, for 3.8 Billion, giving the Glazers a profit of 2.8 Billion?
There is a lot of speculation about the man from Saudi, not all good, but money talks , the investment he could make would eclipse the Abu Dhabi lot, this must be good for the club and us as fans, we are the Richest club in world and FFP would be no probs in the amount UTD generate. All this talk could be bollocks , soon find out in summer?

I don't think anyone can predict what it will mean if Glazers wants to sell the club to eg. a multi-billionar from Russia, Arabia, China or any another country. It will depend on who they will employ as advisors. The most dangerous scenario is if they sell to someone who - without having any experience - wants to play an active role in sport decisions.

That was 10 years ago. We dont know if it was the Glazers or Fergie.

Since Fergie retired, we have spent the money though, just not wisely. Our average squad is down to poor investments. Other clubs buy top players or buy talented players and turn them into world beaters, why our transfers turn out badly most of the time. Last example is Fred. We should be much better squad wise with the money we spent. Add to that poor choices as managers and Ed having no clue how to run a club from a sporting side, you end up with the mess here. Once Ed puts a better system in place and we spend the money more wisely every summer with a right manager, i dont see the need to spend a lot more than we are now. We are not Arsenal or Spurs, we spend much more, but the issue isnt the money in the first place.

If the Crown Prince buys United, club football loses it's soul and United become PSG and City = soulless and plastic. No thanks.

We've talked about Ole understanding the values, responsibility and accountability of being a Manchester United player. It means a whole hell of a lot more than just winning. It's how you win, how you respect your teammates, fans, staff, etc. That's all lost and being mocked if the Crown Prince buys United. I'll pass.

I dont care one bit about the morals of our owners as long as we are winning and dominating again. The glazers cant compete so bring on the house of Saud.
Me either. I'd make orphans of every Saudi journalist to have a stab at the Charity Shield.

Yep. United comfortably pay high wages to players, especially those that are acquired via transfer. The identification, recruiting, negotiations, development and proper replenishment of players by way of renewal or new acquisition is below the standard it should be for a club of United's income, resources and stated standards.

The rot started 2009-13 when when it was reported we had a less net spend than teams like Stoke.

At the end of the day we didn't fix the roof when the sun was shining.

They probably would sell us for the right price, and it's probably been that way for a while. However, it worries me who could afford us at the 'right price'. We're talking the elite of the elite here, middle Eastern Royal families kind of stuff and almost certainly dirty money.

Being a princes shiny new toy does not rest well with me at all. They all get bored at some point, what happens then?

Jim Ratcliffe who is Britain's richest man could afford to buy us. He is interested in football and is a Manchester United fan. There were stories he was trying to buy Chelsea and he said
“I am a season ticket holder at Chelsea,” Ratcliffe said. “Have been for years, although I’m a Manchester United fan really"

Well yeah, and as i said, could have been Fergie that didnt want to spend or the Glazers restricting him, only they know.

We fecked up back then, but we dont need the Saudis to be on top again. A bit of patience and wise decisions, and we will get there.

At the first couple of world class transfers everyone will drool over them.

Exactly this. People can whinge and moan and say they’ll stop supporting united if a Saudi takes over, it’s blood money blah blah, human rights blah blah but the moment we sign a couple of world class players like an mbappe they’ll soon forget.

It usually has to do with money because that's mostly how you show your "vote" as a consumer. You can also protest vocally against something you morally object.

My line in what? Manchester United ownership or product boycott? For Manchester United ownership the line is below slave owning, blood-oil having, women killing rich prats that are without empathy and above a person that got rich in a capitalistic environment where he presumably gained the system or other people in order to get that rich. I would be happy with Al Mubarak either. He's not much better than a Saudi Prince and he's also a big part of corruption in football which is worse if you only look at the footballing aspect.

Yeah I mean my line is below all that too, as I think and hope it is for all of us. If I keep supporting United after SA buys us does that mean I'm advocating or facilitating that regime, though? I'm not sure it does, which is what I meant when I said what does the line mean exactly. It's not black and white for me.

The idea of them buying United makes my heart sink. But if they buy us will anything get worse there? Probably not. As they strive to move the GDP away from oil and more towards global investments, you'd hope the world collectively voting as consumers, as you put it, might have an impact eventually. So dare I say it, as much as it'd make us feel horrible about them owning United, it might not end up being a bad thing for SA.

You're assuming everyone thinks the way you do.

They don't.

Why is this thread active? Literally no one of any repute is talking about it, and the last time there was significant talk about it, it was proven pretty soon after that it was a mammoth case of Chinese whispers with nothing concrete to it all...

Probably unpopular opinions, I have no interest in whoever can take over United and it doesn't concern me as long as their plan is to get us back to the top. I only support United, not the owner.

Agreed

Or we can be whiter than white and stick with the glazers but we will be watching he likes of scott mctominay,Luke shaw,Ashley Young, phill Jones and Jessie lingard do ok but be schooled by the top sides 9 times out of ten.

Utd will not win another title under the Glazers, they are only interested in profits and they are probably frothing at the mouth at prospect of a massive profit if the Saudis buy the club, from a moral perspective there should be no concerns to be honest, look across the road at City, where's the outrage there when they are going for a quadruple, the Glazers are no saints but they are actually bad owners, 14 years after their takeover the club is still heavily in debt while lining their own pockets and donating to governments with equally shady policies, make no mistake, if the Saudis buy the club it will be the best news possible, no debt and probably every single quality player in the world would suddenly want to join us then its very much a level playing field with the Abu Dhabi mob across the road!

Gotta be a no from me dawg.

I'd be pretty much done with watching top level football if this happens.

I'm looking forward to buying the official Manchester United version of these.

This.

They've created income streams based of what? Based of the clubs fans and the clubs success. They created extra revenue streams for themselves. We spend a smaller percentage of our revenue than Spurs have and apparently they are 'cheap' in the transfer window. We are not only a business are we? The fact is there is enough revenue generated for owners to invest into the club and get their profit. The glazers have not done this. They've leeched more than they should and they put a massive debt on our club. I would rather see us used as propaganda then become nothing. Our success is built on winning. Once we do not win for a long period of time the revenue streams will run dry and the Glazers will eventually sell after destroying the club and setting us back years. I am not bothered about what the Saudis do, the occasional billboard of United players and preseason tour in Saudi makes no difference to me. Politics should stay out of football, the USA has done far worse in other foreign countries. You will not find anyone in power who hasn't done the same. So the choice boils down to owners who invest the clubs own revenue into the club or ones who take it for themselves.
We've spent more on transfers in Jose's two and a half years than Poch or Klopp has (who've been here longer). Spending (alone) isn't our issue.

I don't like what the Glazers have done/do (debt burden, Divs, etc) but I'd take that over the Saudis.... you wouldn't, your call.

We have spent more but relative to our revenue generated we have spent less. Why is that? Because we have leeches running the club. Yes I would take anyone over the Glazers as I am not fussed about the politics. Man United is a club built on having the best players in the world and winning trophies, any revenue potential owners spend is from the club itself. So it is not 'blood money'. I would take being a great club again with a few billboards in Saudi over beeing sucked dry by spineless owners like the Glazers.

You don't have to keep trying to justify yourself. It's an opinion forum..... people disagree. Heyho.

We haven't been watching top level football for nearly 6 years so it's no change for you either way.

This is exactly how I feel about it too. This club is about a lot more than winning trophies. It’s about setting the standard for how things should be done. We’ve lost that in recent years and instead of getting closer this would be a big step in the wrong direction.

Not to mention headlines like “Manchester United owner murders journalist” won’t be a real great look.

The Glazers are pure unadulterated capitalists

If they they get an offer big enough they'll sell and if the Prince is really serious it shouldn't be too long before a takeover happens.

I'm not sure any of these rich feckers are clean, so whoever buys us will have dark secrets. Even the supposed 'best' people in the world, e.g. the Catholic church, are dirty feckers that hide all kinds of dodgy things.

Based on nothing but a hunch (and not conjecture like the op), I think the Glazers might finally be looking to sell.

However, I also think that Saudi aren't really looking to buy either. They actually don't have a lot of money lying around for expensive vanity/PR projects. I don't think this is going to happen.

You know we have many titles under glazers dont you?

Seems that there is a wide difference between the local fans and over seas fans on this one.

I personally don't want them anywhere near the club, but I'm not going to lie to myself and say I'd suddenly stop supporting the team, don't think it would be possible for me to do it.
