Arda Turan

So we sign him. Who exactly is scoring the goals for us, something we lacked severely last season... together with pace.

Will we be counting on his mazy dribbles to get Rooney to score 40? Or are we hoping for a 21 year old with no experience in a top 3 league to get 20?
Nah, feck Turan. Not as if we will sign him either, we aren't idiots.
Actually im not keen on signing him. And its mostly got to do with his release clause for a 28 year old and also for his low end product. He's more of a build up guy, which is also nice but the overall package considering valuation and everything is not worth it imo.

Kevin actually makes a fair point there. If it was a choice between Turan or Mata on the wing then you'd have to go for Mata for the goals he'd add alone.

What's pace got to do with it? would you rather have pace and dribbling ability of 32 year olds figo and Nedved on the wings or pace and dribbling ability of 20 year olds Walcott and Townsend?

I pity those who don't see the value of a player like him in a team like ours. We haven't had a player that can give us what he'll give us since Giggs in the 07/08 season. Woody should just get it done. Along with Sneijderlin they'd raise the standard of our engine room to similar levels of the best teams in europe.

He's got the physical presence and defensive ability that Mata lacks to play in a midfield 3 for us. He and Herrera playing in front of Schniderlin would be ridiculous.
It would mean no Bastian tho..

He wants to win a fourth consecutive Bundesliga with Bayern, he's going nowhere.

I've never really watched him...whenever I've watched Atletico, I'm usually more drawn in by Koke or Gabi.

What is he good at? Does he tend to play as a wide man or centrally? I mean naturally you look at numbers for a midfielder or forward, and his are distinctly average, so I'm guessing he's got an engine and is a bit of a workhorse to have this fan favourite status he seems to have all over the comments sections, Facebook and here?

Those who genuinely know what he's about, would it actually be worthwhile? I've seen comparisons with James Milner, an unsung hero without being spectacular. Is that harsh on Turan or is that justifying City's recent loss to Liverpool?

Actually Milner with a better technique and dribbling ability sounds pretty fair to me. He plays on the right but can play left and centrally as well. Gerry Armstrong reckons he's the best player Turkey has ever produced. Im not sure how big of a compliment that is though. Two names that immediately comes to mind are are Hakan Sukur and Sahin. Ozil doesn't count as he plays for Germany.

Surely Ozil would count as much as Sahin?

Ozil doesn't count as the best ever Turkish player because he's German? Seems reasonable alright.

I was of the impression Ozil was born in Turkey, my bad. Seems like he just happens to be of Turkish heritage.

Haven't seen much of Turan anyway, but I know I'd like us to sign another midfielder after Schneiderlin... If van Gaal likes him then so do I.

He's nothing like Milner, his stats aren't special just like Iniesta, and just like Iniesta he is integral to the team

He's clever, technical, determined and does the simple things well. Yes he also lacks for end product

You could argue Mata is a better player but Arda is probably a better fit going up and down the wing as he's more of an all rounder, able to carry out team instructions, win the ball and get the ball to the danger men

I wouldnt like us to pay a lot for him though...

He doesn't play centrally but I wonder if that would be the plan, since he's an underwhelming goalscorer and we haven't replaced Fellaini in the starting lineup yet. His dribbling is a major asset that would be curtailed, though.

I think it's just a case where he's not a perfect fit and his age and price tag aren't good. For what it seems he would cost we could buy a younger winger with more production like Fekir.

If he does come, I could also see Di Maria leaving, a CM being signed and Mata/Turan rotating/fighting for a spot on the right partly depending on opponent.

Nah, feck Turan. Not as if we will sign him either, we aren't idiots.

Good point prof, for all his dribbling skills, he doesn't nearly score or assist enough goals. If we are playing with a lone striker than the wide players and the midfield need to chip in with goals; Turan isn't that player. In addition, we already have Mata, Herrera, Pereira & Januzaj who can all play at 10. What we should be looking for is an elite passer for our midfield and a wide player with goals like Bale, Rues or Grizemann.

PSG have a top class midfield. They also play 3 in the middle, so yes we struggled against it.

Arda is a winger/#10 anyways and wouldn't be played there for you.

Didnt we have 70% possesion at the bridge last season?

''According to Haber 10, and several other Turkish sources including Haber Ler, and an army of excited fans on social media, Düzen went on Turkish TV last night and said that Arda Turan will very soon be a Manchester United player. Terms were agreed, hands shaken, fee sorted out and Turan could be considered a new player of the Red Devils. It would be imminent. Düzen, perhaps not receiving the gasps he was hoping for, also added that Turan was set to have a medical or one was even happening. Done deal etc etc''

However, within hours the player's agent had denied such reports. Ahmet Bulut is quoted as saying "Arda Turan is currently on holiday in Turkey... he hasn't passed medical checks. We also met with PSG."

Bulut reckons Turan doesn't fancy a move to PSG, which by means of ruling one named team out, would leave Manchester United. He also said a deal would be sorted out very quickly and soon we'd all know where Turan would be playing next season

(source Sport Witness).

For a team that is overloaded with attacking midfielders/#10's that seems to be all we are buying.

Is he any good? Yes. Do we need to strengthen in his area of the field? No.

I can't see any sense in us signing him. I reckon our name is being used to drive up his price.

I like him a lot as a player but like others I struggle to see the sense in us buying him given our needs. If it does happen then perhaps it means LVG doesn't fancy Mata's lack of athleticism in the long run.

I hope not. Turan is an excellent player but we don't need him and he is the wrong age for a big fee.

Like Firmino he is a very good player, but we don't need him at all. Need to fix our areas, where we really need more quality.

This.

If we want a good dribbler stick with Nani who's a far better player than Turan ever was or ever will be.

Stop buying average squad players. We have enough of them.

He's fantastic to watch but he rarely does anything in the final third part from dodging in and out of players with his excellent dribbling. Reminds me of Isco, with less goals.

Wouldn't complain if we got him but it would be a head scratcher in terms of what we need, but then if we go on and sign what we need who really cares what order it comes in?

Cuadrado on his way out of Chelsea, it makes sense for them to sign Turan. Their kind of player as well, works hard for the team and loves the victim mentality and can be a nasty piece of work.

Chelsea bound IMO.

I'm pretty sure that if we were to sign this guy it would mean an established midfielder will be leaving the club. He doesn't seem to fit in an already over crowded position, unless we're going for the 'striker-less' Spanish formation.

Yep.

I'll be shocked if it's us and if it is I can only assume that someone else is being shown the exit door.

Definitely off to Chelsea I'd say, the public nature of the way this is being conducted is more like them than us.

Don't think Cuadrado will be sold quite yet. If Arda is bought I think he'll be competing with Oscar as our #10. Cuadrado competes with Willian for the RW position.

He would be a bit of a Hargreaves for us. The hard working player up the pitch. When I say Hargreaves I mean his few performances, not his injuries.

Yeah I can see his work rate resulting in him quickly surpassing Oscar as the starting 10 in your team.
