Arda Turan

This might sound daft but I really do question the motivation and dare I say professionalism of a player who signs a deal that means he can't play for 6 months.

These sort of chances only come around so often. I imagine most players would take 4 months off to secure a contract with Barca he has to consider the fact that they may sign someone else instead of him.

You have to question the club putting in a sell-back clause for the next two weeks! :wenger:

Odd signing from Barca tbh. Can't understand the logic behind it at all. I really can't. Maybe he will turn out a decent buy but I don't understand the clause and the fee given he is 28 and isn't anything special.

Terrible signing. Shows that they didn't learn anything from the Ibrahimovic disaster.

Probably they only signed him so he doesn't kick Messi when they play Atletico.

How realistic is it that a new president is elected who doesn't want to sign him?

Realistic if it's not Bartomeu. Whether they'd want to go against Luis Enrique's request for Arda is another matter though.

Apparently he's a Luis Enrique signing. No matter who the president will be, I doubt he'd want to go against the wish of a treble winning manager.

It's funny how many people act like he's the equivalent of Charlie Adam on here. I wonder why Barca would ever choose to go through with this transfer for such an average player? Their scouts clearly mustn't watch enough La Liga.

Glad he refused to talk to Chelsea because he's a player who would very much suit their system. Good signing for Barca if they keep him, especially as he won't expect to start every game.

Alex Song, Alex Hleb, Keirrison, Caceres, Chygrinskiy(however you spell it)...They make plenty of feck ups.

Arda Turan isn't at the level of the above, he's much better than just an average player - but consider his age, the fact he can't play until January, his disappointing previous season and his price and he's a poor signing.

I'm not necessarily saying it will be a great signing for Barca but more about people going overboard. For example the people that were exclaiming their dread at the thought that he might come to United. You're more clued up on Spanish football than most here, do you think he could have been a good signing for United? From what I've seen of him I definitely think so.

Yeah sure, he's definitely good enough for United (and good enough to be a squad player at Barcelona). If people were dreading it because of his age and because of his price I think they'd have valid concerns though. Biggest difference between you signing him and Barcelona signing him though is that you wouldn't have to wait until January to use him.

Is he really that good enough to play for them? I didn't know he was this highly regarded.. they usually make at least one surprise or odd signing a season.. Hleb, Song, Ibra. It's never a Barca-type deal though if they don't slip in there obsessive clauses.

He's surely not going to be rotating with Pedro for the rotating with the front 3 role. If Iniesta has a poor start to the season then he'll get a lot of chances when he comes in. Great close dribbling mixed with great tenacity to play as one of the CMs in that side.

He'll probably play more in midfield and get Xavi's minutes and Iniesta's subs.

Does it realistically mean that they'll feck off from Pogba if they indeed were ever in for him?
Depends on who wins the elections. If Laporta wins he's going all out for Pogba imo.

Great player. Was instrumental for Atletico in their La Liga win 2 seasons ago. Showed Chelsea up at Stamford Bridge as well. How such a player isn't good enough for Manchester United baffles me.

Agreed entirely. Him and Herrera with Carrick behind would of been a great option to have.

Song was not and is not Average. He is a very good player. Hleb too was excellent, actually not too disimillar to Arda in technique and dribbling style.

Yeah, great. This is Barcelona we're talking about here, nog West Ham.

Ppl had the same doubts over Rakitic last season and Suarez too (obviously the latter's quality wasn't in doubt but a lot of ppl thought they didn't really need him). However Enrique wanted them and has managed to get the best out of them and make them part of his well functioning team.
So I am sure he plans with Arda and knows how to use him as well.

Don't forget Mathieu or Claudio Bravo, also Luis Enrique's requests and widely criticised transfers that ended up ok.

Don't really see the point of this signing tbh and especially for that amount of money.

Most Arsenal fans will tell you Song was just behind RVP in his last season there.

But you seem set in your beliefs. I will end it here.

Good for them. They were easily led by some nice passes over the top that RVP scored beauties from. Song isn't a good player when you're talking about a team like Barcelona.

He played like an utter moron when he got minutes for Barça.

Thought Song was great for Arsenal but not for Barcelona. He was definitely one of Arsenal's better players though and they were very happy that they had finally found a proper replacement for Flamini. Losing him was a big blow.

Arsenal fans were quite relieved they sold him for £16m. That should tell you all you need to know about how highly rated he was at Arsenal.

Well that's a surprise to me considering he was voted second in fans player of the year award behind RVP. I think it might be a case of players becoming shit all of a sudden after losing them.

He was a good player but very much replaceable. £16m was a good price from Arsenal's viewpoint, which they gladly accepted, and as expected, Song was a huge flop at Barca.

Song's biggest problem at Barcelona was he was signed to be a defensive mid or even a centre back to give Busquets some rest

I always thought he was a 'hidden payment' agreed between clubs from the Cesc transfer. He's an ok player but not a defensive one.

Atletico have done really well to get so much money for him.
