Appointing Solskjaer was a mistake

Our board are buffoons.

Chelsea have had Hiddink and Benitez as caretaker managers and both could have been easily appointed. But Chelsea stuck to the plan. This is a club we laughed at for years. They didn’t go sentimental. Yes they gave Di Matteo the job but it would have been a crazy decision not to after winning the champions league.

Not sure why anyone was laughing at them, they have been more successful than us in the same period. Modern football is 100% about structure and recruitment and less so about the manager. We have had it the wrong way around for so long because of SAF, who was a one off.

I just cannot believe this thread.

Ole won us the Champions League. He’s been a faithful club servant since coming here as a player. When we needed him, he dropped everything, came here to deal with this mess. There isn’t a selfish bone in his body.

Ay caramba...

You make it sound like we didn't do him the biggest favour in English managerial footy since Moyes was handed the keys to the kingdom.

Impossible to tell. We need a complete overhaul on our structure and recruitment. He's just another manager who failed and easy to blame until we actually change the way we work. We need to be able to blame player recruitment on an actual guy at the club not a series of managers. We need to stop Ed from doing what he's been doing for 6 years. Because whatever it is, it isn't working. Judging Ole is pretty difficult currently. Overall I'd say he's done better than anyone expected was possible on the day he took over. We lack quality on and of the field.

He hasn't failed. He's got more points than Spurs, Arsenal or Chelsea.

Enough with the “i always said let’s wait till end of season”. It doesn’t help anything except for the fact it boosts you own ego in claiming “I told you so”.

I honestly cannot believe why people wouldn’t even want him to be given atleast one transfer window to fix this mess.
I don't see any top talent (which everyone thinks we'll get) looking at this side which has just lost the last 7 out of 9, thinking "I can't wait to join him, they're going places."

All we are going to be able to attract under him are the dregs.

It's as simple as that really.

Hopefully Spurs get knocked out of the CL and we go all out for Pochettino.

Outperformed everyone bar City and Liverpool since hes taken over, stop talking rubbish.

This is definitely not true. Pochettino has outperformed Ole. We have effectively the same win percentage and points per game as Spurs, except Spurs are in a CL semi final.

Fans on here are a fecking disgrace.

He's come in mid season picked up the absolute shambles he was left with, not signed a player of his own yet and somehow it is his fault???

Let's get things straight. Pep Guardiola would struggle with this group. He struggled at City first year with better than what we have right now.

Give the man a chance.

It's a pity the season isn't 10 games longer he could 'outperform' us of the Europa cup places. :wenger:
That was actually a real danger before he took over. Were currently competing for a top 4 place though.

So that long run we went on beating Spurs away, Chelsea and Arsenal away, that was all a fluke and he's all of a sudden become horrible? I think we need Herrera back quick. The midfield 3 was set and then injuries came.

Thr other problem we’ll have this summer will be Ole’s lack of allure as a manager making recruitment more difficult. At least with Mourinho he still had some kudos to help attract players.

I wouldn't go as far as saying this yet, I'd like to hope when hes had a proper pre season and got some of his own players in and shipped some of these out we will go back to how we were playing when he first joined

However his press conference just then has concerned me. Obviously I may be wrong but it almost came across to me as him feeling out of his depth and realising the problem is perhaps a whole lot bigger than he thought and he is no longer sure he knows how to fix it. Dont get me wrong he isnt the only manager who would struggle and I may have misinterpreted it wrong it's just my take on it.

A great number of people can identify a lot of the problems just look at on here but how many (provided owners and board offer full support) are able to actually identify what is needed to fix it. Can he?

We were 13 points behind Spurs when Ole took over.

Problem is, he picked absolute shambles and 5 months later we are arguably even more shambles than we were before. Can you honestly say we are better now?

It was a mistake, a big one, should have never been appointed. Sacking him would be the right thing to do (which wont happen until we crash next season), we will only lose another season with persisting with him and giving him a chance when he clearly is out of his depth. Lets keep hoping he turns it around, but deep down we all know we need a mriacle, because he wasnt good enough from the start. If he wasnt a legend here, he wouldnt have gotten the job in a million years.

Feel sorry for Ole. He’s a good egg, nice guy trying to utilize the good old days. 20 years is a long time in football, his stories by the camp fire are not enough to gee up these lumps of shit we call our players.

His only hope is for a huge summer. Need a mass clear out and even more in. Woodie won’t allow this to happen of course, 3 or 4 in at best as Woodie can’t negotiate for shit. Ole will have to work with what he has once more, which he can’t seem to get through to.

He has in the league with a worse team than Spurs have. Barely any of our players would start for them.

Sack him and appoint who? What does the new manager achieve with Young, Smalling, Jones and co?

Wouldn't be the first caretaker manager in history to make a better caretaker than a full-time manager.

The post-Mourinho bounce was always going to be a big one. Now that's over, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of ideas, tactics or strategy. Doesn't look like he ha a clue how to arrest this slump in form, either.

My bad I thought that football existed outside of the league format. I guess you are doing that thing that Pool fans do by ignoring cup competitions just because they lost 5 games in it.

I look at the whole picture to get a fair reflection, not selective matches.

When we beat PSG, Ole was outperforming Poch, but we've lost 7 out of 9 since then. It's different now and for good reason

Woodward would never sack him.

Perez sacked Solari when he did a decent job initially but it started to go all wrong at the end.

BS. We don’t have worse squad than spurs. Poch makes average players look good.

Doesnt matter who we appoint, you could ask the same question if we didnt hire Ole who to appoint in summer. Fact is losing 7 out of 9 is sackable for any top club.

Ship them out, as any top manager would do. Dont know if Ole doesnt want to buy more than 5 players or if the Glazers/Ed dont want to spend money, but yeah, we are in trouble either way.

Who gave all of these new contracts?

Ole made the right call with Valencia. But Jones and Young were given new contracts after he was appointed caretaker manager.

Surely even the most impatient knee-jerk fans can just let the man have a full transfer window before calling for his head. Personally after our track record with well established managers post Fergie I think no one is a safe bet.

Don't get me wrong I have concerns with Ole and have for while - it was never going to be plain sailing like that honeymoon period. I'm concerned that he is not ruthless enough and also I'm concerned about his knowledge on the tactical side of the game. That said, with the right backing and the right reception from the club as a whole, I still think he can bring us back to the top.

Erm, Woodward did?

He's not been here anywhere near long enough for us to give a fair assessment.

He will need at least 3 years at the club. He needs time to build. Unless it goes horribly wrong, then we need to allow Ole to do that.

Erm, Woodward did?

So why didn’t he give Valencia one? Someone at the club recommended him to give Jones and Young new contracts? Maybe it was Ole. So those were his first two mistakes to begin with.

Also Woodward doesn’t have a hand in the contracts.

What on earth. Spurs have no midfield, they have Wanyama in there who's a crock and Sissoko for god's sake. Herrera and Pogba would get in comfortable. De Gea and Shaw get in comfortably as well, their fullbacks are average.

De Gea, Shaw, Pogba .. and Martial when we play with two wide men, he's better than Lucas.

Herrera gets in as well, your midfield has nothing left in it except a crocked Wanyama!

In the league we have 7 points more than Tottenham since Ole took over. http://solskjaertabellen.com/en.html

What a joke of a post, we weren't in the conversation for top four until Ole took over.

What’s your masterplan then? Sack Ole now. Appoint who? Don’t say Poch, he’s happy at Spurs.

Too much Fifa career mode for some of you, it’s not as black and white as you make out. The club is in shite from the very top, the Glazers are fecking the club not Ole.

So 4 at best? What on earth indeed.

Some on here been romanced scammed and if they give Ole money/transfer window they know he'll come good.
