Appointing Solskjaer was a mistake

Looking at it now I think the timing of his permanent appointment was probably a mistake. It looks like the players have switched off since then.

If he or anyone's going to get it right at United post Ferguson then the structure of the club needs to change.

My biggest worry is that we won't be able to attract the quality we need to improve the squad. I mean, we are a mess right now and every player in football knows that. Why would you come here now to play in a under a inexperienced manager with an uninspired squad?

I feel it's time for Liverpool to shine now for 20 years until it's our time again to dominate.
Has to be a major worry. Ole is a virtual unknown as a manager. On top of it, the chaos engulfing the club is public knowledge. And then on top of that the continental players will just notice that Pogba and De Gea are basically desperate to leave. Nevermind that Manchester isn't London, etc.

I'm getting a little nervous to find out what players that leaves us with this summer.

I want Carlos Quiroz back as assistant manager. Saf knows how good he was. Quiroz is also not scared of the players as he stood up to Keane too.
But realistically the majority of the players need to go including Pogba. He is a brilliant player individually but I don't think he is good to play in a team where he is the best player. He will play in a team where there is a better player than him.
Unfortunately I would say Shaw and Lindelof apart all the defenders should be sold. Dalot the jury is out as a defender.
I would get rid of the whole midfield and apart from martial the whole strike force too including Rashford.
It's a hard call but the management should have got ridden of players like young, Mata and Matic last summer.

Not really. We've had a string of top level managers who needs to be given time. Asking someone to stop in and wave a magic wand to fix things is a knee jerk expectation bordering on idiocy. Ole had no support to refresh the team yet and we haven't even gone through a single transfer window.

Other than the one that just happened...?

We are a 5th-6th place team at present, neither Mourinho nor Solksjaer needs to tell us that, it’s pretty darn obvious.

I was all for backing Mourinho all the way until he turned full nutter on us and starting losing his mind.

Maybe Jose isn't able to talk about certain things in public. Same for our other previous mangers.

I see references similar to this all the time, but I'm not certain that attracting quality is as important as what we do with it. This isn't an argument justifying our current squad - we can do much better. But, I feel like we are only getting a small part of their true talent and capability. This problem has persisted over multiple managers. It's easy to blame external factors like agents, social media, or whatever, but the problem seems internal. The desire of many for a director of football might actually be a request for greater visibility and efforts to fix the internals that we don't get to observe. I think that's what needs to be fixed and a DoF might treat a few symptoms, but won't necessarily fix the root causes. It all depends on how much sway they have.

Not a mistake, I'd give Ole as long as we gave Ferguson. There's a huge rebuilding job to be done. If you haven't realised it's not the players by now you haven't been watching our games.

We've seen the effort the players can put in (first month with Ole), and if they played like that consistently we'd be easily in 3rd place currently and possibly in the running for the title next season with a few recruitments. Yes you probably are going to disagree with that, but the players were electrifying for the first 4 weeks under OGS.

In my opinion Ole needs to get rid of all our older players and also our Deadwood and recruit young players, like De Ligt, who actually work for the team and not for money. I don't want us buying any superstars like Bale this summer (maybe a superstar keeper like Oblak). I'd rather us build a young squad that can compete in 3 years time. De Gea, Pogba need to go, they aren't committed, they just want money, and it's a real shame. We need to recruit players like Artur for Barcelona, dirt cheap and look at his price tag now.

Over the next few seasons I'd like to see our lineup more like this:
-----------------------------Oblak-----------------------------------
Dalot-----Lindelof-----Koulibaly/De Ligt-----Shaw
---------McTom-------Neves/Rice------Coutinho?----
--------Sancho--------Rashford----------Martial--------

Midfield wise I'm not so sure, possibly Saul, Ndombele, Fernandes as options. Martial is a question mark at the minute as well. Wan-Bissaka could be a shout for RB but I'm happy with Dalots progress. Overall, big changes need to be made.

If we,re going to rebuild and keep Martial someone needs sacking. He along with Sanchez are our two worst options in attack. By far

I don't know if calling it a mistake is fair but the PSG result ultimately didn't do us any favours. Lots of people, including those at the club, didn't want to acknowledge it for what it was, luck. Created next to nothing ourselves but were gifted goals and a penalty. It put people on a misleading high and secured Ole's appointment. I don't think the players will respect him enough as a manager to perform for him but that ultimately means we have the wrong players.

This fecking thread and the absolute impatient children we have in our fan base. EVERY MANAGER IN RECENT HISTORY INCLUDING FERGIE HAS HAD A TEAM TWATTED FOR CHRIST SAKE!! How are we going to move on with petulant man babies calling for managers to be sacked every fecking month???

Ole is too nice to deal with the egos in the Utd dressing room. Mourinho's inter-personal skills were pathetic and his sacking raised morale and spirits and vastly improves results. But the players are now back to their old habits and unfortunately Ole has no hairdryer. It's the same players who went on a brilliant winning run so what has gone wrong? I expected the club to wait until May before making such a huge and long-term decision.

Hence why I've said he's still a question mark. I still believe he can progress but if not, maybe Coutinho could set up there.

Outworking in what way? You mean there was something Ole could do to help the immobility and lack of work rates of Matic, Pogba, Lukaku and Martial in the team? And how he could have made them run as much as Everton players who ran twice as much as our own players? Do tell us, we are listening!

And if we consider the fact that the mobile players we have such as Lingard, Rashford and Fred are just decent players who should mostly be regarded as squad players. So what else is there in the team?

Ole is doing his best with the team and it's not a coincidence that we have looked good against opposition that lacks intensity on the pitch e.g PSG where a certain Draxler was ambling around without any care, likewise Di Maria or relegation candidatey such as Cardiff, Bournemouth etc.

The high time you accepted the fact that the team lacks the quality, the better for everyone. Pogba and Martial are the only quality players in the team however they are both lazy, have got poor movement and lack intelligence.
You can compensate for the lack of natural work ethic in a player by surrounding them with more mobile, energetic players. When I watched Barcelona play, Messi and Suarez and even Busquet are not that mobile of the ball, but Barcelona still adopt an effective pressing game.

At United, what Ole should have done is give Pogba, Martial and Lukaku limited defensive responsibility that Messi, Suarez, and Busquet has at Barcelona and surround those players with the likes of Lingard, McTominay, Fred, Pereira, Herrera, and/or Rashford and ensure these more mobile and fit players are consistently or smart pressing the opposition. This balance will give these players with limited defense responsibilities more energy to influence our attacking play. It is the setup and managerial instructions that should have been worked on, to get our players to outwork those Everton players.

Lingard, Rashford and Fred aren’t just decent squad players and they showed the capacity to be effective first team players if utilized properly. Fred was the best player beside Messi on the pitch when he came up against Barcelona, Rashford was more talented at a younger age than Kane at that similar age, plus he has a better goal scoring record than Rooney if that chart that was posted by a member on this forum was accurate. Lingard, is an English international and is the type of player that will work hard for the team and give us a better balance. Beside those players, there are McTominay, Pereira, Sanchez, Herrera, and we can even go to our academy and give Greenwood and Gomes or Chong a chance.

No one will convince me that this team lacks quality players. The honeymoon period is all the proof I need that the players we have are good enough to compete at a high level. We just need a few additions and a better footballing philosophy.

Players with Martials mentality should be the first ones out. Regardsless of «talent»
Who would you have there then? Sanchez is obviously not an option unless he somehow reverses back time, but he's not leaving as we won't be able to even if we wanted to, his wages are too high and no ones going to pay the transfer fee. Martial's just signed a new contract, are we just going to buy yet another LW?

How do you know he hasn't? Were you in the dressing room yesterday?

He's publicly called out players, twice, in a week.

Mourinho was a problem because, as you say, he had no man-management skills. Ole hasn't bought a player yet.

We're passed this "players need managing". They need clearing out and then manage what we bring in based on our principles as a club.

I'd bet most of the posters speaking against him have never set foot in Old Trafford. I don't know any matchgoers who have even hinted they want him out.
I don’t think it’s quite that clear cut. The ones I go with are desperate for him to succeed, but there’s a lot of scepticism. I’d say the most common position is that he might succeed given the right support from the club, but that support (structure, not just money for signings) is unlikely to be forthcoming. Rumours that Phelan is going to be appointed DOF have not gone down well at all judging from the state of my inbox.

First priorty should be getting the bad Apples out of the club. Does who dont fight, and build from there. Position and name dosent matter

I believe Martial is discouraged by the general atmosphere at the club and that he'll he'll rise to the occasion given a shift in the attitude among his fellow players. He's not a leader but I do believe he's both very skillful and hungry - and someone who's just allowed himself to get disheartened and unfocused by the performances of others. Also I have a hard time figuring out who'd be able to replace him - so I think he should be given a second chance and I have faith that would also provide him with a much needed second wind (he's still young as well don't forget that). Our right side is what needs fixing - both a winger and a fullback - and our central midfield. Plus we could do with a top-class forward to supplement Rashford (we already have homegrown talents for backups and at least one who might actually make it to the top given the chance and incentive to develop) and also to offload players who simply aren't hungry enough / lack both character and proper work ethics.

Utter rubbish. He's done well with what he's got to work with. Not signed anyone yet.

Support the club or go elsewhere
Oh, poor guy must work with Pogba, De gea, Alexis, Lukaku...yeah, he is doing wonders. Our squad is not good enough to compete with Wolves or Everton but at least Ole gave them a fight. Yes his squad barely had a shot but hey, you can't expect that your manager after 5 months can learn players how to shoot on target. Silly me.

And for bolded part:lol::lol::lol:. People still write that shit? Pure blind faith in coach or some player who are not good for your club is not support. 90% of this forum wanted Lvg and Jose out of this club. Where was that "support" then? I don't need 2 years to see that Ole is mistake. I see it now and i am saying it.
I am worried and pissed what will be with us next season with less than average coach on the bench. In fact i know what will happen. He will be sacked this time next year and we will lose another year and 200 mil which he will spend this summer.

This. It's truly pathetic.

I bloody hope so. Ole is the first manager that has a connection to the fans, you can feel his desire to take us to the top again. I would back him to the hilt! But unfortunately, many match going fans are not old enough to have enjoyed him at his best and so don't have that connection.
Many match going fans (me included) are old gits who well remember 1980s Leeds’ desperate attempts to bring back the glory days by appointing people who’d been stars in the Revie era, in the hope that some of his magic would have rubbed off on at least one of them. I really hope this doesn’t happen to us, but knowing the board’s cluelessness I wouldn’t be surprised.

Neville got this bang on yesterday when he said "The fans won't turn on Ole" he is one of ours and one of those who contributed to our success... Finally the players will stop getting a free pass from the fans and the anger will be directed to the dross they serve up on the pitch.

Ole was hired for next season so you can hardly judge him now. You have to think that the board didn’t hire him on the back of a few matches but rather on his football acumen and the future blueprint he has envisioned.

The team is just not well built. It’s like a Picasso painting of players. The lack of red thread through the squad is evident. It is disjointed and lacks a clear philosophy.

I'm not going to judge Ole because he has yet to really stamp his mark on the team. See how the summer transfer window goes and give him a chance to mould his own side as he is currently working with a team he inherited. If any of the current squad show signs of complacency or indeed are tempted to move then get rid without fuss, buy what's required in the right areas and promote more youth. It might take some time to reach the level we need to aspire to so a little patience will hopefully go a long way.

First priority should be to find the replacements for them names. Not just getting rid of the bad apples, if they don't get replaced then who's going to be put in that position? Martial is currently our best player in that position, take him out without replacing, who you going to put there? Sanchez? Who's done nothing all season long?

No one has suggested that the squad is worse than that of Everton or Wolves. City lost games to Crystal Palace and Leicester this season, does that make Guardiola an embarrassment?

Hallejuha ive been reading these posts in disbelief get a fecking grip will ya. Pogba is toxic he needs booting, matic past it gone, young great winger in his time its over now, sanchez mr pay cheque tarah, jones great for blackburn enough said,Lukaku jesus my mum will turn quicker and shes in her grave ( god bless her) the spinal column of this team needs sorting, Ole has not had chance to sign any players that we need to rebuild and rebuild in a big way, its going to take 2 seasons at least to get a team capable of knocking these feckers of their perches if you sack the manager again, which is the suggestion of some people we are doomed i say doomed ya mad feckers

I said at the time that I knew nothing about Ole and whether he would be a success and I’m still not sure if he’s the right appointment. The only thing I’m pretty sure of is that Pochettino would get your team playing solid attacking football and he would get more out of the players than any of your managers since Fergie have managed to do.

For some further perspective Ole current holds a 64.0% win ratio at the club, Sir Alex finished on 59.7%. No manager will win every game. Some expectations are far too high, he may not turn out to be a success - but at least give him a proper chance before calling for his head.

We also got dominated by Reading, Watford and West Ham at home. We barely scraped past Brighton, Palace and Southampton. Got torn apart by Spurs, PSG, Barca and Everton - somehow won the first game. Literally, the only time we've looked a class above a team is when we've played the worst teams in the league - Huddersfield, Cardiff and Fulham.

And the most worrying part is after 4 months, we don't even have glimpses of a potential style. We started with pressing and possession, we changed to countering attacking football and now for the best part of 2 months, we've reverted back to type. Where has all that freedom bullshit and "United way" gone? We're going in circles here; 3 months ago, we had a few class players and now all of sudden everyone is a virus.

I am backing Ole without a doubt and he absolutely deserves the transfer window to get some players in. But his detractors do have a point.

We've lost 6 of our last 8. The only game where we played well enough to warrant a victory was against Arsenal. 1 game in the last 8 where we represented ourselves to a good level. That is relegation form, and I can understand if someone questions his ability to grind out games when the team are in a patch of poor form. We have not scored a goal from open play in 400 minutes...a staggering statistic.

I kept on referencing the 'Ole table' because it was clear proof that he was doing a good job. He had outperformed his competitors since he became manager. But there is a chance that Ole will be 4th in his own table, we are definitely finishing 3rd or worse and will most likely be miles behind Liverpool and City in the 'Ole table'.

In my opinion, I find the questioning of Ole off the mark. We got outran by 8km against Everton which is a disgustingly low level effort from the players. This is a running theme in our losses, players can't be arsed doing the work, they get outworked by inferior players. They already did this play under Mou and got him the sack, I think we have to go the other way.

It really wasn’t a mistake. This recent dip aside, I can’t see any other manager doing better than what Ole has this year. We were well off the 4th spot when he arrived and would likely still be where we were if not for him. We should be backing him 100% going forward - new players, new ethos.
This. People forget how far The Toxic One has us off the top of the league. It was embarrassing.

It was 100% at one point. His win % is going down really fast.
