Finally saw the pilot of The Night Manager (Huge Hugh Laurie fan). I am guessing the way the pilot went, it's trying to liken itself as the British version of Homeland ? The early scenes probably would require a few repeated viewings (Since I couldn't quite make out what one of the characters was saying) or subtitles. It didn't really start all that well. In fact it took me 3 days to complete it (I paused it so many times and felt it was a little too lacklustre). But every time Laurie makes an appearance (God, he has aged!), it just peaks up. He has got an enigmatic presence and instantly convinces you to pay more attention (maybe a little bit of my bias creeping through, but he really dominates every scene. Not sure if that speaks volumes of his calibre or the poor supporting cast) and even elevates the performances of Tom Hiddlestone. The end of the pilot does seem to give an indication of what exactly the show is about. So I wouldn't mind watching it a few more episodes. More Laurie to look forward to.
IMDB has given it a rating of 8.7/10. For the pilot alone, I'd give it a 7. Look forward to seeing the next episode.
It's a BBC show, so big value productions, with shooting in remote locations. Cinematography is very average surprisingly.
