Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

I'm on season 3 of the wire, its better than it started but I'm still not hooked. Watching out of habit more than attraction.

You'll love him. He's great.

Honestly the change is massive. You're right. Leslie was just a Michael Scott in season 1 but after that became funny without being stupid.

Lots of the supporting characters really grow into their own and lots of random characters from the town become identifiable and bring funny cameos. It's like Simpsons in that way.
Sounds very promising. I'm enjoying it so far without it being great, but from what everyone has said season 2 is when it takes off.

Yeah, Ron Swanson is amazing.

Andy (Chris Pratt) goes from annoying to great too.
Ah that's good, I was hoping the inevitable dumping of him by Ann would lead to him going out of it but that will also work.

Ann Perkins!

Now is when it really gets great. Ben is a brilliant character and Andy gets so good.
There's a lot of great characters, which is brilliant because a lot of comedy shows heavily rely on one or two.

Both Ben and Chris seem to be good additions.

Ok so Season 3 of The Wire was good but now quarter way through 4 and its rank. Can't see how people think this is the greatest show ever made...

Anyway ever watch the Sky TV programme Strike back? Didn't realise they had made another series. Decent show.

@kouroux I'm currently watching episode 9. It's been really good and its a slow that just goes under the radar for some reason. Better than a lot of shows for me.

Just finished season 2 of Prison Break. I thought the first season was awesome but the second season was somewhat disappointing, finding myself a bit bored at times (especially towards the second half of the season). I'll probably bang out the rest anyway but does it get any better?

I heard people say this is better than Breaking Bad. Unless season 3 and 4 are great, it's not even close for me.

No it doesn't. I forced myself to finish it just because I started it. I don't think they planned out the show very well. Maybe they didn't think it would go past the first season because the storyline after season 1 was just fecking awful!

Try stopping the car and watching it properly.

You're just hilarious. The second coming of Eboue.

Can you elaborate?

So watched 6 episodes now of season 4 and I'm struggling to keep watching. The storyline is crap, there's nothing noteworthy happening and it feels more like a monotone Eastenders rather then the best show ever created. The main characters are gone and the ones on now are failing to make an impact. I've seen on Wiki that this season is the highest ever rated with 98/100 but I think its the worst thus far. I don't know, maybe there's no shock factor for me and that is why it feels this way.

I don't think the people saying its better than Breaking bad watched past the first season... Its gets progressively worse sadly and that's partly because of the heights the first season reached and partly because the storyline goes pear shaped.

This is the best thing about the show for me. Even bit part characters that only pop up once in a while are excellent.
I know season 1 gets a bad rep but I cried laughing as hard at Tom Haverford and his Tommy Hilfiger polo shirts as I did at nearly anywhere else in the series.

Missed this earlier somehow.

You are literally the only person I've ever heard say anything like this. Either you're just taking some kind of bizarre hipster wum stance and going against the consensus or you just have no sense of appreciation for top quality writing.

The character development in The Wire is second to none, even minor characters are given depth and progression the likes of which main protagonists in other shows don't even get.

Storyline is crap? That's just complete nonsense, perhaps you just need constant cliffhangers and non stop action to keep you interested.

Perhaps but perhaps this just doesn't appeal to me because it is not that good. Sopranos had no cliffhangers and I think its one of the best shows ever.

I don't go with "the consensus" for the sake of agreeing and to please people.

Why would people get wound up by my opinion I don't understand? Everything is relative to perceptions when you're not discussing facts.

When you're literally the only person saying it's "not that good" or even "crap" and it's possibly the most critically acclaimed show there's been, then you have to take a step back and wonder if it's you, rather than the show, that's missing something.

Not that I expect you'll even consider that possibility.

Missing what? The will to keep watching? That's about the only thing that's fading away so far. Maybe what's missing form it is the shock factor.

I think its a bit over the top to call it the most critically acclaimed show there has been as I don't think its even in the top 3. And that's not my opinion.

We get it you love The Wire but you shouldn't feel the need to instill that on everyone else.

What? What does your opinion on it have to do with whether it's the most critically acclaimed?

The shock factor?

The Wire has shit-tonnes of shocking moments.

Name some please just so I can compare w. What's the most shocking moment for you on The Wire. Up to Season 4 as not on 5 yet.

What? What does your opinion on it have to do with whether it's the most critically acclaimed?

I said its not my opinion that The Wire is not in the top 3 of the most critically acclaimed shows. I've searched high and low for critics rankings and its fourth at the highest.

There's plenty of shock factor in The Wire, although I recall you saying you've experienced both sides of the drug trade so it's nothing to you or some such nonsense.

Like I said, you seem incapable of recognising the possibility that it's not the fault of the show.

You think something but that's not your opinion? The Wire is definitely one of, if not the, most critically acclaimed shows TV has had.

We get it you love The Wire but you shouldn't feel the need to instill that on everyone else.

This is a discussion forum, the idea is to discuss things, you brought the show up again, I could just as easily turn this comment round on you.

Wallace, D'Angelo, pretty much everything with Dookie, Chris bashing the guy's face in, etc.

The logic that the 'shock factor' of TV shows is one of the most important things to it is fecking ludicrous anyway and only serves to show how silly your logic is.

Things are just getting into Dookie at the moment so can't really comment on him but the previous two, young boys victims of the drug trade shocker

I suppose it depends when you've actually watched The Wire and it may have been the first show to treat all these problems at the time, but a lot of the things seem just rehashed stuff treated by many other dramas which I've incidentally watched before this so maybe that's why it doesn't seem the bees knees.

It's like The Bible all over again. Stealing ideas from Game of Thrones.

If you didn't like seasons 1 and 2, you are in for whatever the opposite of a treat is in 3 and 4. It's all downhill from the end of 2.
Breaking Bad it is not.

 Yeah, that's it. It's just not that good - everyone else was wrong all along. I've genuinely never heard of anyone who actually watched a few episodes before giving up not liking it.

You keep mentioning shock factor as well - what exactly are you looking for? What would be your top 5 shows? IMO the main strength of The Wire is the series as a whole - the way its build up, all the characters, different settings etc. I suppose it's not really that great if you can't appreciate things like that.

If you class watching around 45 episodes as a few then... (silence) ...
