On the final episode of The Following with Kevin bacon. I don't know what other people think of the show on these boards but I for one quite enjoyed it thus far.

Rake, an Aussie legal comedy drama is also well worth a watch. Two series so far with a third later this year. If you don't take it too seriously is is a great deal of fun. And Jane Campion's Top Of The Lake is really excellent if a tad depressing.
The Wire. People must have mentioned it previously, but it's a really good show and a must watch.
It's decent enough - Kevin Spacey is very good (although they saddle him with a ridiculous southern accent.) I think it's a touch overrated: several notches below the likes of Justified, Breaking Bad; while a cut above the likes of Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead. I'd probably put it on a par with Mad Men (another show that I feel is overrated, and one, which at times, I struggle to stay awake through.)Going to start watching House Of Cards this weekend. It's getting great reviews and iv been impressed with the Netflix original shows so far.
Care to elaborate?Justified several notches above Mad Men...wow.
Exactly, and it's not nearly as smart as it thinks it is.Mad men is sooo dull!

Nah, never heard of it man... Is that about tightrope walking or something?
I think I've heard of that before. It's about a bunch of electricians or something.
Made for Netflix and adapted from the British series I believe. On my watchlist but not started yet.
reminiscing a bit so was watching series one, episode one of the Royle Family. that's some funny writing that.
It's way more interesting, the dialogue is better, the soundtrack is better and I'd say it's about even on the acting score. So other than cinematography, I don't see how Mad Men is better. But of course for some, characters sitting around drinking, smoking, checking out their secretaries and discussing the topical issues of the time constitutes deep television.Basically what duffer said. I can understand not being all that fussed on Mad Men but seriously...Justified. Come on.

Fair enough. Jon Hamm is excellent - I'll certainly agree with you there. However, I think Timothy Oliphant is excellent as well (perfect as Raylon Givens) and Walton Goggins is great as Boyd Crowder.I don't think "deep" television exists. Maybe your problem is with the people who like to think of their shows as "deep" rather than with the show itself. There's no debate to be had really when you talk about the acting being on the same level though, we just see things very differently. In my view the acting in Justified is good, nothing more. It's excellent in Mad Men. Simple difference of opinions. It has more to do with how I view justified than Mad Men really. It's good fun but I don't think it's great TV.
I think the absolute top tier of shows is this: The Wire, The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, The Office.
Next is: Justified, Dexter (although that's really only based on the first 4 seasons,) The Shield (hugely underrated), Rome, Deadwood (I'm halfway through Season 2 - it's good, but not THAT good,) Freaks and Geeks (only one season, but it was fantastic.)
Then you have: Mad Men (full disclosure, I've only gotten through 2 seasons, but it's been absolute torture,) Walking Dead (could've been good,) House of Cards, Fringe + Prison Break + 24 (all fall into the guilty pleasure category,) Battlestar Galactica (not really understood all the praise, but entertaining enough.)
And finally: Sons of Anarchy - the single most infuriating show of all time. Watchable enough, but incredibly melodramatic, and very overrated.
I haven't seen The West Wing - I know, I know, I'll get around to it some day.

It wasn't meant to be belittling (and apologies if my previous post came off that way.) I just don't get the acclaim - I certainly wanted to like it, given that it was created by one of the writers of The Sopranos. The dialogue on Mad Men is very good as well, often very intricate.
I can easily understand people not liking Mad Men and not begrudge them, but I don't quite understand the belittling when some of the qualities seem pretty obvious for me.
Perhaps 'torture' is too much, but given my expectations, it's not been the best viewing experience. I guess it's like saying I'm not a big fan of Wayne Rooney. I'd still obviously have him over the likes of Torres or Gervinho. So Rooney is the Don Draper, while Torres is Jax Teller.Well yeah that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion. Don't agree on quite a few of your rankings, but who cares. Don't understand how you can put Mad Men in the mix when you admit it's been absolute torture though and when you don't even seem to be enthusiastic about its qualities, considering your post above.
One being far more entertaining than the other of course. That's a ridiculous way to view Mad Men. It's like me saying Justified is just a good looking Sheriff who goes around looking cool and busting silly villains.
