Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

ok, I get the smartphones, but everything else?

I think the 80's had a certain aura of innocence and a very certain vibe, as seen in the movie classics from the era, a feel and aura which I feel they've recreated very well in this series.

I was born in 84, but I still feel I can relate to it all.

This being set in present day just wouldn't be the same.

Tin Star, just started it, the first 30 mins of EP 1 was difficult to watch, but it has potential
Enjoying it. Haven't watched the last episode yet. I think it got better as the show progressed but there were a few slow episodes.

That's just nostalgia.
I was a teen in 1980 :nervous: It wasn't that innocent.

My point is that I think it wouldn't change the story line much (leaving out smartphones and the ease of communication that they bring).
I'm imagining it without the stupid haircuts and can't see how it'd be that different.

Watched Stranger Things 2 over the weekend.
Best not to dig too deep and just let it play out.

What's the deal with setting this in the 80s? They could've set it in the present day and it wouldn't change anything.
Paying homage to the 80's is guaranteed success at the moment, even the most shallow nostalgia will get people all misty eyed about Trump's paradise lost. It wouldn't surprise me if there's 0% originality in Stranger Things, it's all the better for some people.

MAGA - emphasis on the Again....It's so stupid.
These are the good old days, right now.
The old days were not that good. To think they were is just viewing it through rose coloured glasses.

Same reason why the movie 'Super 8' was a success in 2011. Millennials and those born late into Generation x are obsessed with the 80s, and they make the bulk of writers and producers on tv and in hollywood. Look at all the remakes of 80s shows and movies in recent times like McGyver, Dynasty, Lethal weapon, Dallas, The A-team, or shows set in the era like The Americans, that 80s show, Red Oaks etc. Looking at how the 80s revolutionized how we absorb entertainment (music videos, VHS, live concerts) its no doubt many are still obsessed with that golden era in pop culture. In the 80s the obsession was with the 60s

I've been binge watching this thing and just finished season 3 now.. I freakin' love it.
Genuinely never come across anything like it. Gets more and more intense as it goes on. Finishes superbly too unlike a lot of shows.

Meanwhile I’ve just finished watching Black Sails on UK amazon prime. Fantastic.

Watched Stranger Things 2 which was quite engrossing.

Now watching Fargo which is very very good. Billy Bob Thornton's character is so creepy.

Not sure why people were raving over The Exorcist. I'd say the first season was watchable but the second has been so crap. Melodramatic nonsense.

Watching In the Line of Duty (Series 3, have seen E1&2). Never got into it before, but looks really decent.

The reviews, the talent involved, all of them points to it being your average bog standard horror show.
You would be correct.

To be fair the first season is better made than I expected a Fox horror show to be but it's nothing special.

House of Cards is excellent. Might want to watch it soon as Netflix might take it off soon given recent goings on (reportedly).

The Exorcist have been given the thumbs up from avid horror fans like myself, @pauldyson1uk and @Dirty Schwein.

The spanner is obviously not a fan of horror, and Nilsson is Swedish, plus probably ranks the Directors Cut of the original Nosferatu as the highlight of horror.

I had hig...not completely low expectations for Salvation, but jeez, it just might be dumber than Armageddon and that Frodo flick combined.

"Executive producer: Alex Kurtzman"

Ah, my bad.

started season 1 of Bosch , enjoying it, well written and acted.

Yeah I’ve just started Bosch recently and am at the beginning of series 3. Titus Welliver is great and the show is well made as you say. I especially like the fact it doesn’t rely on gore or sex, unlike a lot of modern shows.

I’m a little disappointed in the storylines though. There isn’t a huge amount of intrigue but, then again, I like detective shows to be heavy on mystery. I’m quite surprised to read that most series of Bosch are based on 3 Michael Connelly books as the stories don’t feel meaty enough to carry through.

Oh yeah it was you.

Best horror series made isn't saying much though. It might be the best ever but that still makes it just about watchable.

You should try to understand that people have different tastes. Nobody is claiming that the show is Dostoyevsky, but it's very well done of its kind.

As for being 'melodramatic', that's kinda the point. It's difficult to play 'possession by demons' with strict verisimilitude.

I see the new western series "Godless" getting rave reviews.

Might have to check it out.
