Antony (out) | LOAN to Real Betis

0 loan fee is rough, just a bit saved on wages and nothing else.
Combined with the penalty if he doesnt get played, it seems the ultimate goal of this is to find potential buyers.
I hope he hits the ground running for Betis and we can then find a buyer in the summer.

Well I've heard he's better than Raphinha and look what he's doing over there. Betis fans (fan?) in for a treat.

Which might be a big ask if he’s not top league standard. Quite curious to see how he does there, tbh.

Memes of Antony aside he has good technical ability I think. He is just so lacking in terms of physicality. If I had to bet on whether he would perform well or perform bad in la liga... I think I might lean towards him performing well. He definitely has the attitude and workrate so lets see.

EUR 2m is nothing if he really gets paid GBP 200k/week. The best this can do is help us find a buyer for him in the summer.

80m+ & 200k/wk....has to be one of the worst transfers of all time. I doubt it would be easily beaten soon.

Yeah like the logic behind that. Antony surely knows he'll be playing to get his career back on track and place like La Liga is more likely to help him in that than Premier League.

If he can do well at this loan then we may be able to sell him in summer for some fee like 15-20m euros (though his wages would be problem again like with some other players).

Thought he could be decent for us at RWB but it seems like we'll be able to get someone for that position so this is best possible scenario atm.

That sitter he missed the other day says everything about him in a United shirt.

Wish him well so we get a decent fee in the summer for him, but feck me was he an abysmal signing for the money.

Hope he does well enough that we manage to sell him! That first year and a half of being here he really was one of the most dislikable players I've ever seen at this club. Since then he basically just hasn't been more than a bit part player so he hasn't bothered me. 86m and 200k per week... wild.

It’s not as much about the fee but letting him find some form in a league that may suit him a little more. Then hopefully a permanent deal in the summer or another loan.

The worst transfer of all time? Only rivalled by Mudryk to Chelsea, Coutinho to Barca and Pepe to Arsenal really.

Good luck to him.

Also hope he does well so we can get a decent transfer fee for him this summer..

Mount to United. At least Antony helped us vs Liverpool in the FA Cup last season and scored some other important goals for us.

Hazard to RM is probably the worst. I think Grealish to City should be in there given the money involved but City’s success helps them whitewash it.

Nah mate he scored a penalty against Salford the other day. That's him covered from any criticism for at least another 6 months.

I think he's truly an example of where the club have to stand firm on transfers and prioritize good value over players the current manager really wants. That being value in terms of both transfer fee AND wages.

You sign somebody for £82m who isn't proven in the top 4/5 leagues who plays poorly and suddenly a year later they're worth half that. Couple that with a £200k a week pay packet and if you want to cut your losses early you'll finding no club wants to touch him given the finances involved. Lo-and-behold you're stuck with him for a 2nd season and another poor showing means he's probably worth half that again right now and you still can't shift him even if you wanted to accept a £60m loss.

Contrast that with if they'd signed say Moussa Diaby for example that summer, who was definitely linked I remember whether credible sources at not, an dI think would have been gettable for the £50m he ultimately went for Villa for a year later which was perceived as OK value.

Ignoring the fact that he had heavy Saudi interest which meant he ending up getting 3x his wages to leave Villa who were also reimbursed with the money they'd paid a year earlier... let's say he'd gone to United and had a below par season (also ignoring the fact he was fairly decent at Villa and clearly was/is just a better player) - I think he's still a £35m player on the market at worst given he'd had at least 1 strong season in the Bundesliga, and if you're paying him the £130k p/w he was reportedly on at Villa you'd have enough interest from clubs to be able to move him on at some point and you're not making a huge loss.

I'm not sure but I think Amad this season has more goals and assist in the league than Antony since he arrived. That's 2 and half seasons compared to half a season.

Mount to United. A player who was on last year of contract and actively being pushed out of the club was bought for a shocking amount and then made worse by offering a long contract on a shocking salary, only to find that we already have players playing in the same positions and then finally only for the player to be constantly in the hospital.

It was a catastrophic failure of the entire recruitment system.

So he’ll be back with us in June. Then hopefully we sell him fully then. A massive clear out needed in the summer.

looks like his plane is on the way to seville.

A similar loan deal for Martial to Sevilla never worked out for us and we were stuck with him for a further two seasons.

I'm fully in favour of Antony moving out on loan, but for the love of God, please impress to make the move permanent.

Must be record negative ROI in the history of football transfers.

I don’t think he did more here than a random winger from the academy would’ve. We overpaid by 80m, and overpaid in wages by 190k a week.

Not happy about this deal. I think he could have done a good job as wing back. I'm not sure that Dalot is better right now on that left side if you wanted to choose Antony there.

Personally I'm delighted, waste of £85m

All the best to him, hope this works out positively. Can’t accuse him of not putting the effort in.

A damn lot of money that transfer cost us.

I'm starting to think ETH took the job so him and his brother could milk us for as much as possible through transfers.

He probably had one chat with the people running this club and thought these idiots are there for the taking.

Saving 2m euros

Starting to think we should have a whip round or something

For the money? He’d have been an abysmal signing on a free, he’s just not a very good footballer.

This is a bloody desperate loan signing. How can we possibly gain financially from having Antony somewhere else when we will be paying a large chunk of the £200k wages. In other words we pay to have Real Betis take him No option to buy either.
The only hope is he shows something that might improve his value in the transfer market. Because right now having been bought for £80m he is now worth £17m. But even at that price his wage asks will put clubs off. So he can just ride out his contract and laugh all the way to the bank.

Imagine if he rips apart Spanish clubs and scores 15+ goals for Betis in next 5 months, we can only hope Barca/Madrid comes in with 80M offer?

We are already short on players in the positions he plays. Makes no sense to send him out, even though he isn't first choice
