Antony (out) | LOAN to Real Betis

I honestly see the value in an article discussing possibly the biggest flop in PL history. A cautionary tale.
Ach, maybe you're right. I'm still reeling from yesterday after having to rescue my neighbour's dog because the fecker left him outside just as the storm was kicking off.

None of us are wasting license payers money on pointless articles. What does the article achieve other than saying he's shite, which we already know. Just kicking someone when they're down for the sake of clicks!
would be nice if they did similar articles about some of the waste of space politicians and dickheads like musk. i don’t remember seeing the “is truss the worst pm of all time?” articles.

Yeah the BBC article is worse than it needs to be, I do not think Antony has ever done anything which warrants ill feeling, he was not the player we wanted but that was the fault of the scouts, Woodward and in no small part ETH who knew the player but obviously not this league. Apart from those couple of sulks Antony has always worked hard which is something that many other players cannot say, I hope Antony does well at Betis form him but mostly so we can sell him in the summer.

All the best to Antony. Wore the shirt in his heart but it just didn't work out for him and his off field distractions didn't help the case either. Hope he turns it around soon.

I think this thread deserves a poll to see who thinks he will do well at Betis. For all he's been an absolute bag of shite for us, I think he's a few games of building confidence to show his flair. Could be a revelation for them. I'd vote for him doing very well there and happy to be proved wrong.

As poor as he is/was; I believe Sancho was more of a disappointing flop
There's no way the BBC will admit that, given Sancho is a proud Brit. I would agree with you as Sancho was courted for more than an entire season and came with a huge reputation, sadly his attitude was a disgrace.

Am surprised at the BBC putting the boot in like that to be honest. Fair enough it hasn't worked out for him and he didn't come close to matching expectations but an article with that tone feels unnecessary.

I’ve slated him enough over his time here, but to be fair he did give everything he has for us when he was on the pitch, it just wasn’t good enough unfortunately.

I hope he re finds his confidence, gets regular minutes under his belt and starts to find his form again. Worst case he comes back a more confident player and becomes a solid squad player. Best case we can sell him for a half decent fee.

It’s quite funny how players get a lot of stick because they cost so much. They didn’t ask to be signed for 90m etc. the more they get paid for it just puts more pressure on them.

The BBC article is pretty reasonable, but the headline is a bit stronger than needed, but that’s usually how it goes and how it’s always been

Sadly that model worked fine when people read articles, but nowadays most just screenshot the headline and share it on social media. Any nuance in the article itself is lost.

Antony was the type of transfer from a weaker league and then you hope that player will be able to step up to the higher level. The problem was that the Antony money was ready made star player money. Sancho was expected to be that ready made star and the price made sense for what was expected of Sancho.

Sancho is the bigger disappointment but the Antony transfer is a worse deal.

Good luck to him! Always showed he cared when he wore the shirt on the pitch (unlike some others). Just seemed like he made the move too soon and to the wrong league. Hope he discovers the magic that got him the transfer in the first place!
