We have signed a right winger and a world class defensive midfielder. Whatever we think about the price Ten Hag isn't totally blind to the weak points of our squad in the same way it's seemed some past managers were.

Yeah he knows we still need minimum GK,CM & ST. I think he is still uncertain about what to do about RB role yet

Exactly.

My fear is our current players have a habit of missing good chances. And the media/Twitter fans love stats over actually using their eyes when rating performances/make their narratives before a balls kicked and stick with it whatever happens.

Combine those together and we’re gonna get over the top criticism if he doesn’t get assists.

I’m really looking forward to seeing him play. Think he’ll be solid like Martinez.

This is why I'm hoping we're secretly trying to do a deal to bring in another striker, because I'm a bit wary of our lot missing those. Unless we can convince Ronaldo to stay and tell him to just stay in the box and wait for the chances to come to him. Actually...he could get a load of 'easy' goals this season without having to exert himself too much if he does that. Hmm...if he wants to stat pad this season, maybe he will stay after all.

I'm more confident now that I've seen and read a bit more about him. But, I'm also much more aware now that we need a striker at the other end of his chances. Think he'll be a star for us. Feck whatever the media says, most talk shite anyway.

Where has this logic come from, covid drove down the cost of players as everybody was skint. The Spanish league still is, it’s only Barca throwing money around like sailors on shore leave. The only league throwing money around is the prem.
The price has nothing to do with logic. As we see from Tchouameni transfer Real Madrid did. High potential with some sort of consistency in a minor league reaches 80-90mils now. The price Chelsea paid for the full back is beyond imagination. Maybe, in the world of economy driven by high inflation, the trend will continue.

Feels even more important to get a good striker.

Thanks for sharing, feel like many have to see this. The guy has awesome quality on the ball. We just couldn't get anyone better realistically to strengthen our wing, maybe Moussa Diaby. But personally I prefer Antony.

At that price, he absolutely is mate. He scored 8 goals in the fecking Eredivisie as a winger for the most dominant team ever to play in the league.

We're paying roughly what City paid for Haaland if im not mistaken.

You're caught in the hype. ETH likes him, but that's no guarantee. LVG liked Memphis as well.

It's shit business.

Haaland was a bit unique as he had a buy out clause. If that wasn't there and it was a bidding war he'd probably have gone for 200m. I'd imagine there were pretty significant sign on fees for Haaland and his dad.

Yeah, me, ETH and the Brazil manager. We’re caught in the hype. If only we could see it the way you do.

Welcome to Man Utd Antony. Hopefully people don't put too much pressure on him due to the fee. I'd expect he'll be rotated in and out of the team with Sancho and Rashford. Hopefully he develops an end product quickly. I think it'll take him some time to adopt to PL defences. We likely won't see the best of him for another 2-3 seasons.

This is why assist stats are so flawed. It doesn't say anything about the person creating the chance, it actually says more about the person finishing it off.

If Antony slides in 10 perfect balls into the box (e.g. get to the byline, pull the ball back with the striker stood in front of the goal) and striker x misses them, does that mean Antony's shit for getting no assists in that game?
Maybe key passes per game is a better stat to look at ?

I just don't get it, we saw ziyech tear it up in the Dutch league for ajax who had amazing stats and cost chelsea under 30 million

Casemiro and Antony for 150 mil, unbelievable :)

Long journey that was, i remember those times when we were a team to be linked with Arnautovic and Rabiot for 20….. like It was 3 weeks ago. Time flies.

Excited to see him. Has the potential to be the most exciting winger we've had since Nani

Of course his stats are a little bit concerning. That shouldn't be that hard to admit. He seems to have bags of potential judging by videos but from a €100 million signing, you'd ideally like to see more impressive stats from a league as weak as the Eredivisie. It should be possible to acknowledge that while still being happy with the deal and looking forward to seeing him play.

Worrying about prices seems weird these days. The money in football is mental, we can't control it and it's not our money.

We are signing a really exciting young player. I don't get why people don't just enjoy it.

Not sure what to think about this deal: he's clearly not worth the value and he probably never will.
Price tag says he has to be 25M€ better than Haaland.

I think they didn't mind selling him because they had Antony ready to go and he was in the last year of his contract.

Antony has years left and they really don't want to sell him.

Chill out regarding the fee guys. Chelsea just spent 60m on a LB and are about to spend another 80m on a 21-year old CB. Liverpool spend 100m on a striker with one good year. Real Madrid paid 100m for Tchouameni. All are from just this summer.

It is the going price for potential these days. If he hits the ground running similar to Martinez there's gonna be no complaints.

Haaland had a release clause. He'd go for well over 150M if he didn't, you would expect a bidding war between a few clubs.

Yeah, me, ETH and the Brazil manager. We’re caught in the hype. If only we could see it the way you do.
Why are you so invested in his international status?

Tagliatelle is also a Brazillian international (and aside from being dog shit) he's not worth a 100 million euro (in his case probably not even 10).

This isnt Roberto Carlos' Brasil and being an international footballer for an okay side doesnt make you a 100 million euro player.

Clasie is a Dutch international. I wouldnt take him if he came wrapped in 10 million cash.

There's far more international players than players worth 85m. In this context, his place in the brasil squad is absolutely meaningless.

ETH clearly hasnt been scouting or trusting and IMO paying this fee so late in the window could indicate he doesn't give a feck about any sort of budget.

It says alot you've placed yourself among ETH and Brazil's manager. I'll leave it there.

After Nani we literally didn't have any winger with natural flair, did we? I'm really excited to see this guy play for us.

This is the most mental part. People were going on about Man United being into trouble financially next minute we overpay by £30/50m on two decent players.

ETH is a genius for those first 2 games.

None of this would have happened if he’d started the season with an easy win!

Nicely played Eric:drool:

This has been a mental transfer window. Probably won't see another summer window like this for 10 years or even more...

Crazy deals like dominos all falling after each other.

It's a pretty amazing coincidence that the best available centre back in world football and the best available winger in world football both happened to be playing for the same club.

Yes you are right abt Ronaldo. However I worry for our attack because we don't have the right midfielder to progress the ball to them in proper areas, nor do we have the no.9 to hold the ball up and help link up the attack together and to the mid. So will we able to put Antony and Sancho in position to do their magic. Hopefully I am an armchair fan who is completely wrong.
We do. We just need to strengthen the midfield and go with doubles 8's, what will improve ball progression to front 3. Eriksen, or even van de Beek can do it in RCM. Getting Casemiro opens up a lot of options with current squad.
Martial is the obvious answer as well, although there is a big question mark over his fitness.

Sancho has natural flair (would be nice if he showed it for us a bit more).

Just curious, do Chelsea fans feel the same way about their signings this summer? That they overpaid for all their signings. If they get Gordon for 60m that's close to 300m spent.

Is this our biggest expenditure in a summer transfer window since LVG in 2014 when we signed Di Maria, Falcao etc?

Yes, we overpaid, but do I care? We got a player that has worked with ETH in the past and who slots in his style and tactics. On top of that he’s young, skilful and exciting and gets you off your seat.

So yeah I’d love to see him in United shirt.
