I mean he’s 30 coming into a fast pace league compared to La Liga. It’s not a certainty he’s gunna be successful.

No player is ever a certainty when they transfer. It's still insulting to refer to one of the best holding midfielders in the last 25 years as a decent player.

Wow! They took us to the cleaners! I hope he is good enough and productive for us.

Not sure what to think about this deal: he's clearly not worth the value and he probably never will.
Price tag says he has to be 25M€ better than Haaland.
Count in the salary-expense and you’ll find that unless Antony is on around £260k per week Antony will be the cheaper of the two over their contract periods (5 years)…
And that’s not including the separate deals City had to make with Alfie (the father) and Raiola etc.

Just curious, do Chelsea fans feel the same way about their signings this summer? That they overpaid for all their signings. If they get Gordon for 60m that's close to 300m spent.

Yes in this case. My guess is Boehly will seriously regret paying 2-3x players value, but we'll see.

This has been a mental transfer window. Probably won't see another summer window like this for 10 years or even more...

Crazy deals like dominos all falling after each other.
Yea it's just the money is mental in football these days. You see clubs like West Ham and fecking Forest spend close to 150m this summer, no wonder other clubs try to get the most from a club like United with our revenue.

It's a ludicrous fee. I don't know why some have difficulty in admitting the totally obvious that is right in front of them. No amount of "Yeah but Nunez cost X" or "Fofana is worth Y" dresses up an 80 million forward that plays in the Dutch league. It's completely unheard of for that to happen and taken on its own merit for where he is in his career it is bonkers. That can be fully admitted without being downbeat about the signing or lacking excitement for it. It's a very exciting signing too.

Yeah haven't Forest bought 18 players

Sancho has natural flair (would be nice if he showed it for us a bit more).
I never felt him as a tricky winger who likes to take on his man to be fair. Always looks like a 1 touch give and go player.

Is this our biggest expenditure in a summer transfer window since LVG in 2014 when we signed Di Maria, Falcao etc?
Must be way bigger than that. We're around 200 million pounds now, maybe north of that. Pretty sure that's never happened before.

Why didn’t we bid for him at the beginning of the window. I reckon we’d have got him for 60 million. Just stinks of bad planning for me.

Think we tried but then was all about how much money did we have left after FDJ

Of course his stats are a little bit concerning. That shouldn't be that hard to admit. He seems to have bags of potential judging by videos but from a €100 million signing, you'd ideally like to see more impressive stats from a league as weak as the Eredivisie. It should be possible to acknowledge that while still being happy with the deal and looking forward to seeing him play.

Agree. Although I'm going to keep my reservations to myself until I see him play for us. Hope he proves me wrong...

He was injured from March until almost the end of July. Maybe we wanted to see how well he recovered from his injury or we don't learn from our mistakes. Pick whichever option you like.

Great signing.. think he’ll be another fan favourite. Him and Sancho on the wings is very appealing

Jeeeez, the moaning. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
We have signed a very talented, young player in a position we were screaming for upgrades in, enjoy folks. This is supposed to be fun.

Fecking brilliant signing. If he can add goals to his game, he will be amongst the best in football in his position. Even if he remains at this level, he will improve our attack by being a press-resistant outlet, one who can carry the ball, opening up space for others. Not to add, he's a fecking treat to watch, would make us much more entertaining.

More than anything else, this should light a fire under the asses of Rashford and Sancho to up their game or else join the nandos brothers on the bench.

He's a much better option than Brobbey as well, who was the initial target this summer for upfront.

I just don't get it, we saw ziyech tear it up in the Dutch league for ajax who had amazing stats and cost chelsea under 30 million

I think you can have players who are playing at high level in some Leagues but It does not mean they can take that level and perform anywhere. Van De beek playing in a good team with opponents who give him much time and without additional pressure is ok footballer who can make some simple passes and score goals but when he plays for us and our opponents are more physical and put more pressure he just cannot cope with that and turns into poor player. There are players who do not need speed, dribbling and other attributes to be one of the best because they are smart, have good understanding of the game and have very nice foot to give an assist or score a goal having all time in the world. Ziyech, Tadic, Van De Beek are examples of that. They only need those few attributes to shine. When the gameplay is slower you do not need to be fast, so when you get the ball you can focus on finding some movement around and make things happen but in better League you need to somehow make that few seconds for yourself by being faster or leaving your opponent behind with some dribbling. So being very good winger your main attributes are good shot and good pass and also your movement, that is what count the most but the more difficult the League the more additional skills you need to get to the point when you have the opportunity to use that main attributes. Antony have those attributes that are necessary to be great winger and also is hard working, rapid with great technique and also looks like someone who is gonna cooe with the pressure.

So good wingers from Eredivisie right now It is around 40 mil. If you have some other skills thats extra.

He is 22 Brazilian international, Ajax already Lost half the team, and ten Hag knows him and they know that. Thats why we need to Pay extra.

Why are you so invested in his international status?

Tagliatelle is also a Brazillian international (and aside from being dog shit) he's not worth a 100 million euro (in his case probably not even 10).

This isnt Roberto Carlos' Brasil and being an international footballer for an okay side doesnt make you a 100 million euro player.

Clasie is a Dutch international. I wouldnt take him if he came wrapped in 10 million cash.

There's far more international players than players worth 85m. In this context, his place in the brasil squad is absolutely meaningless.

ETH clearly hasnt been scouting or trusting and IMO paying this fee so late in the window could indicate he doesn't give a feck about any sort of budget.

It says alot you've placed yourself among ETH and Brazil's manager. I'll leave it there.
Cheers.

I think it says something about the profile of player Ten Hag has brought in this summer that any one of Martinez, Malacia, Eriksen, Casemiro and now Antony could be deemed a fan favourite.

Don’t give a monkeys about the price, it’s all relative. The value will be based on his success and and also the success of the team.

What I found the most encouraging just from watching his highlights is his natural ability to create and pull off high degree of difficulty passes and crosses. I had no idea how gifted he is in this department.
It’s not the best aspect of his play but it’s certainly something creative from wide areas that we’ve sorely lacked from our RW for 6+ years.

We now have another dimension for teams to worry about and that can only be a good thing. Plus he works hard!
