Not meeting the asking price in either scenario, in favour of dicking around on transfer that was a moon shot created the situation we are in.

Ajax had a price for early on, and that increased as the new season was starting and they wanted their settled squad. So the appetite to sell changed. Theres nothing wrong from them.

If we cant get our shit together, quit blaming other clubs.
We met the asking price though. That's the problem

Exactly.

It’s daft people are making out Ajax have been blindsided by this.
Not saying Ajax have been blindsighted. Rather its daft to insinuate they are playing anyone about.

They had their appetite and we dicked about trying to haggle. Like we always do.

Would definitely prefer to see us walk away and put that money towards a striker. This is way to much money for the player.

Sorry I edited my post but we did offer it! We have consistently been after Antony all summer. I’m sure there’s many weeks of negotiation between bids. Fans pretend we were after Martinez first and that was a mistake but it’s clearly the other way around. It reads as if we have been in talks all summer
I think the perception of being late came from fans saying they sold too many players so they won’t sell this one. That has bled into we came late for him in the window itself but that clearly isn’t true.we have matched their demands twice now.
Where does it say we offered it? We haven't matched their demands once for fecksake. Where is this narrative coming from?!

How many first team players do they sell per window and still remain competitive?
They can always buy cheap and stay competitive in their league.

They bought Haller from West Ham for 20m, he become top scorer.

They bought Tadic from Southamption for 12m, he become their top attacker over past few seasons.

They bought Bergwin from Spur for 28m, he score them 4 goals in 3 games already.

Getting decent player to perform in Dutch league, is really not that difficult. Any underwhelming PL player could potentially do a good job for them.

They dont have ten hag. They didnt win the league for what, 5 Years before he came. Overmars and ten hag were massive in that and now both are gone.

Being competitive isnt what they want. They want to win the leagues in Holland.

The desperation is incredible, Ajax clearly made there point they aren't selling anyone else but these clowns negotiating still. Any player is going to be massively overpriced, clubs can see us coming. I feel sorry Anthony in all this. United and them embarrassing owners again leaving it to last minute. Shambles of a transfer window. There will be spin but between De Jong, Marko the Racist, mamas boy Rabiot and over paying for other signings it's been a mess. Good luck getting anything of Ajax after this.

Haggle?

It’s called negotiating, isn’t that what the CAF wants us to do? Because if we’d just pay the money that’s being asked every time, we’d get bent over and that’s also incompetence! The club cannot win

@moses @Penna @golden_blunder

Can we please have a poll with below options?
1. Walk away. I didn't want him anyway
2. Walk away. He is too expensive
3. Pay the money. He is worth every penny
4. Expensive. But pay the money because ETH wants him

Thanks.

Their ask to rose from 80m to 100m.
We bid 90m.

How did we meet the asking price?
:D You're right. I read that as between 80n to 100m for some reason. Maybe this what's happening to other posters too. Some Mandela effect. Anyways yeah, Ajax doesn't seem to have done wrong here. They've just kept increasing the price and we never met it

Haggle when you know you have a place to fecking haggle from. Dont try and do a Sancho saga 1 scenario where you think a club which Doesnt need the money will suddenly succumb to your terms

Yes.

People are also quoting me saying we bid the ask, then pointing to an article that said we didnt bid their ask

Ajax have done NOTHING WRONG.

They set a price. We DIDNT MEET IT.

They then rose that price as it was very deep in the window, season getting underway, squad settled. Completely fair.

Then with 5 fecking days to go we bid again, and guess what WE DIDNT MEET THE PRICE AGAIN.

No feckery going around from anyone apart from US.

They asked for €100M we offered €80M + €20M that was more than acceptable.

They got a lil greedy and want €100M guaranteed so we tested their resolve with €90M guaranteed.

Think that’s reasonable

They paid around 13m (+5m adds on), just 2 years ago. Its very very low risk signing as compared to the income they generated from players sales.

They sold De Jong (age 22) for 77m, De Ligt (age 20) for 76m, Ziyech for 36m, VDB for 35m at around same time or prior.

Really, he owe them nothing, when we are willing to pay that amount of money for him.

They should just let him go, when there is big money coming for him, and when he really wants to go.

They always let their top young players leave when there is good price/good opportunity for them, there's reason why they could always attract top young talents for peanuts, because top young talents always have an understanding that they would always let them pursue their career in bigger club elsewhere for good money, and won't hold them back.
Including bonusses the transfer cost Ajax 21.75 million euro's which at the time was the highest incoming transfer ever for Ajax. That may be low risk for a premier league club where money grows on trees, but definitely not for Ajax. His old club will also get 20%(?) Of the price that Ajax will sell him on for and I think Neres' tramsfer rights were also involved somehow. Ajax attracts talent, because talent knows that they will get the chance to develop and get the chance to shine in the CL with the added benefit of steamrolling the league. This 1 incident wont change that. Antony will get his chance to move on, but United acted too late and now they don't want to sell.

Now Antony comes out saying he wanted this to be a 2 year project, well in that case he should've asked for a 2 year deal or a buyout clause. He didnt, because he had proven feck all when he came here. Again, I agree Ajax are absolutely mental if they reject this outrageous bid for an unproven and inconsistent player, but Antony should shut the feck up.

God, defending Ajax like this makes me physically ill.

We offered 90m eur. We have not offered 100m eur.

Its not as much a factor of money with them so the appetite for a huge fee to make them think "ok this would be silly to pass" in comparison to their own monetary health is fair

Agreed and 100m is absurd. We better walk away.

The many reports after that says our 80m bid was turned down? The report is from July 1, ther reporter isnt a physic to report future events nor is it a summary of the entire saga.
We just offered 90! How can we satisfy your standard of meeting their demands when the club keeps raising their fee?
It’s not we demand 80m and that’s that. It’s weeks of negotiation from United s stance from the opening bid trying to get each other down or up. Then how negotiations work.
Name another transfer that has the selling club continually have their demands met twice over a summer only to raise it again for a third time.

For fecksake follow the tweets. Their price was 100m back in July because it was late in the window and their appetite changed.

In which case sure walk, but posters dicking around saying we are messed about are just being daft.

Theres a price, meet it or feck off. Even with Frenkie its a dimwit approach. The fecker doesnt want to come to us, but we thought "ah you never know. Banter lets go for it".

We've never met their offer. You can post reports of when we have

Get your tongue out and let Ajax bend over in front of you.

 this blind support of the club always makes me laugh. Its like some sort of dimwit playground attitude. Just accept we didnt meet their price, twice, and move on.

Of course they have. They have changed the price and seemingly gone back on what’s been discussed with Antony.

Why has Van der Sar had to step in?

I know it's a ridiculous source, but I found this funny

https://www.express.co.uk/sport/foo...ited-transfer-news-John-Murtough-Antony-price

Manchester United are just £1.7million short of Ajax’s asking price for Antony as John Murtough works on a deal for the forward, reports say. Erik ten Hag wants the Brazil international to become his fifth signing of the transfer window. However, the Dutchman’s old side are playing hardball as they look to retain the services of their key asset.

Of course they have. They have changed the price and seemingly gone back on what’s been discussed with Antony.

They changed the price because it was late in the window and they have settled on their squad. How the feck is that messing anyone around?

And they havent gone back on anything. A club can come with lowball offers but if they're not meeting your ask, they clearly arent serious enough.

VdS stepping in because theres clearly a fractured situation going on, and given his relationship with the bidding club hes the best guy to explain what should be obvious: "pay the ask or feck off".

We offered 80 + 20 originally
