It was 60-80m back in June. We dicked about with lowball offers.
Tier one then said now its 100m eur as they sold a lot now, and they are deep into the window.

We then came with an 80m and a 90m with a week to go.

Now which one is messing about?

So the price changed then?

Outside of this thread Ajax is still revered as a destination for young players.
Why not look at all their players transfer in past 30 years?

They have always been sellers club, and always let their top young talents leave when there is good opportunity/price for them. The have already build such reputation long long time ago. They sold De Jong when he is 22, they sold De Ligt when he is only 20, both for good money and good opportunity.

They never hold back their players moving to any bigger clubs in bigger league, except us, who always pay good money/respect for their players/club.

The money we are offering for Antony, is no less than De Jong and De ligt.

They are clearly fecking us and Antony around.

It’s crazy.

If Ajax are using the line that they won’t sell now because it is too late then why allow United to agree personal terms with the player and sit down and negotiate a deal and structure (twice).

Clearly something has gone wrong, as Edwin has had to step in. Let's not forget, Ajax have also got some new boys in to replace Overmars.

Why have they quoted and negotiated various bids then, allowing the player to agree personal terms, only to reject both then decide it’s actually too late?

We all know this isn’t how deals work.

They can reject what they like when they like. Lots of deals are not straight forward.

So the price changed then?
Yes.
There was a tweet a few pages back that was reminding everyone. Ajax made it clear the new price was 100m eur as there wasnt long in the window and they lost Martinez too.

We never ever met that.

Edit, it was all the way back in July I think

Using logic, this would suggest there were offers early on. Why would he cut his vacation short in June to ask to leave, if there hadn't been a proposal to leave for?

Also, the June time frame ties in with us making initial enquiries and discussions of a bid.
My interpretation of that is that we expressed an interest directly to Ajax and Antony and so Antony wanted to get this progressed as soon as possible. Whether an actual offer was made is another question for me but yes no doubt real interest.

How many first team players do they sell per window and still remain competitive?

Ajax have never released there demanding transfer fee to the press or public..

Believing these tweets where a journalist says Ajax wants 80 million euro. And then 100 million is bullshit.

If I remember correct its the same journalist that said Mohamed Kudus was in advanced talks with Everton this season for loan period with option to buy. It was him '#mike verwei' or romano

Ajax later stated this was total nonsense and that Kudus was going nowhere.

Journalist tweets 'yea Ajax demands 80 million for antony'

What a nonsense to believe that

So you agree that they told United, and Antony I imagine, a price they would accept and then went back on this?

Jesus people on here really love shitting on the club, it's like it's become a proper pastime for some of ye, more so than the football itself

And my interpretation of the situation is, United would have followed up their interest with concrete offer. Why else would Antony be so pis*ed?

I agree there was a price set twice.
I am saying we never met either one at ths time.

They asked for me for 80m euros and we bid 80m euros

It’s the sun but it’s reporting Des Telegraff (however it’s spelled) that’s supposedly super tier 1 by how accurate they are
That’s July 1. We bid 80m euro then got got told to feck off, it’s 100m which isn’t far off what we bid now.
Everything doesn’t happen overnight. Waiting 3/4 weeks to bid isn’t slow.
This saga has warped the perception of time!

This may backfire on Ajax if he performs poorly this coming season due to his state of discontent and they can't get more than 40 million for him. Unless he absolutely destroys the Dutch league they'll find it hard to get such an offer which is only happening due to a rich club like United being in such a desperate position.

Jesus people on here really love shitting on the club, it's like it's become a proper pastime for some of ye, more so than the football itself

It's not that, although yes,, some do, but people just always rush to blame someone. There is nobody to blame here. The clubs keep briefing that it's amicable.

If you want to add more perspective Champions League winning AC Milan accepted £100m for Kaka. Economics should relatively always win against stupidity.

It was €65m and it was early June when the deal was made with him giving best years of his career to Milan. In short, circumstances were much different to this scenario where their squad is already depleted and we come up with a late offer once the season started. Of course the price will change in such a case. Their goal is not only to sell young talents but to be successful on the pitch and get CL football. You can't have one without another. If they fail to get CL football their ability to get talents will also take a hit, so it goes hand in hand. They simply need to have both for their business model.

Our guys need to have a calm meeting about this because there have to be some alternatives and his price will be 30-40 million less next window. Yeah, they will change the price (again) next summer because the circumstances will be different.

Anthony's version of events while obviously upset is nowhere near as binding as a contract signed by both parties. You don't need anyone to explain that to you.

I don’t but having had this Ronaldo we should know exactly how it works.

Ronaldo wanted to go, United asked for one more season and agreed he could move to Madrid in the summer.

They didn’t move the goalposts or try and hold Madrid to ransom (from memory). It was all very amicable. That’s how it should be done and whilst not identical there’s many parallels if you read what Antony says.

It's a gamble either way with that amount of money.

Immaterial. A player is under contract. He can leave for a fee but if that is not met then its not their fault.
Contractually speak you may be correct. But they are clearly paying no respect to player and to a club who has always been respectful in doing business with them. Its not illegal I know, but they are fecking us around and treating us like a joke.

This. I truly don't understand it.

The people who love shitting on our club are the ones taking dividends and their cronies. If you can’t see through their bullshit after two terrible results to start the season then you never will.

In the end I'd say United aren't to blame actually. Its very likely we could have gotten him for cheaper earlier in the window but we've met Ajax increased offer now. It's not our business whether they have a replacement ready or not. If they said they will sell at a certain price and didn't do that after its been met then that's very snakey of them

Oh I know there's no one to blame, it hasn't stopped the usual suspects from continuing their crusade about how shit we are as a club at doing everything, it's just tiresome to read over and over.

And moving the goal posts has created the situation we're in.
Not meeting the asking price in either scenario, in favour of dicking around on transfer that was a moon shot created the situation we are in.

Ajax had a price for early on, and that increased as the new season was starting and they wanted their settled squad. So the appetite to sell changed. Theres nothing wrong from them.

If we cant get our shit together, quit blaming other clubs.

We just making stuff up?

I want to hear this story. I’ve never heard it.

"And according to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Man Utd are reluctant to pay that sum of money"
Sorry I edited my post but we did offer it! We have consistently been after Antony all summer. I’m sure there’s many weeks of negotiation between bids. Fans pretend we were after Martinez first and that was a mistake but it’s clearly the other way around. It reads as if we have been in talks all summer
I think the perception of being late came from fans saying they sold too many players so they won’t sell this one. That has bled into we came late for him in the window itself but that clearly isn’t true.we have matched their demands twice now.

Exactly.

It’s daft people are making out Ajax have been blindsided by this.

No respect? fecking around?

They set a price of 70m early on. We didnt meet it.

Then they said OK look, new seasons starting we don't want distractions, time is late for a replacement so if you want him THIS LATE, its now more. We still didnt meet the new target.

Dont have your head so far up the clubs arse to think WE have been fecked around

Hed be 30m cheaper and with us for weeks if we actually got our shit together.

Yes. We’ve been “preparing a bid” since June. That’s all I ever saw anyway.
