Ajax have rejected £90m !!! they are having our pants down.
Its not my money, but spending close to £100m, cant be good for the player, its like a millstone round his neck.
They know we need him, and they are fleecing us
Euros, not pounds. Point still stands, though

I'm going by the numbers over at Transfer Markt, which lists both de Jong and de Ligt price as £77.40million and £76.95million.

I shared official sources.

Edit: I think TransferMarkt figures are the full amount converted from Euro to GBP based on 2019 exchange rates which was €1 =£0.87, Euro has decreased in 2022, it's €1 =£0.84

If we really wanted this guy, we could have brought this up during the negotiations when buying Martinez. I'm not exactly depressed that Ajax have seem to reject the offer in just five minutes. United get to keep this 100M and still spend on other players while Ajax themselves have a thoroughly unhappy player on their hands which can't be good for club morale

Ajax might actually do us a favor here, that's what i think personally. 100M is buying a player like prime Gareth Bale or Robben, certainly not Antony
No it isn’t. Levy selling Bale in this market (particularly to us) is close to Neymar money and the only way you’d get Robben for that is if it was during his crocked periods where nobody was sure how he’d pan out in terms of fitness.

Ajax are fecking jokers.

At the start of summer if you'd have said we'd bid 90m euros for Antony, people would say we're crazy and they'd be laughing all the way to the bank.

Now they're just being stubborn trying to fleece us out of every penny. It's a shame that this is ruining a good feeling between the club.

We should move on, but we're very short upfront.

We can't blame Ajax for wanting to keep their player, but that's a lot of money. Surely they'd be better off taking the money instead of keeping an unhappy player who might lose some value.

how do they have the same problem? It means not affecting this season, and having a whole summer to recruit a successor if needed, who would similarly be less expensive than if we tried signing him at this stage of the window.
So you’re telling me Ajax don’t have a target in mind to fill the gap should Antony leave this week? That’s very United of the club.

The reality is you aren’t going to get a world class player who ticks all the boxes to come in now, but you can get someone who can do a job and is available, on loan if necessary. Sometimes you need a stop gap until the found the right replacement.

We need more pressure on Ajax. Take a page from the Spanish clubs. Have our players publicly talk up Antony.

if anthony was that determined to get ajax to sell him he’d be smearing his shit all over the changing rooms and screaming during any team talks the manager gives. i don’t think he’s as crazy about the move as some are making out.
Absolutely spot on. I'm actually getting Di Maria vibes by the fact he hasn't done that already.

We've offered more for Antony than we paid for Sancho now despite him being far less proven. Ajax are taking the piss now.

feck 'em. I hope Antony plays awfully on purpose with a guarantee from the NT to be selected.

That wasn’t the counter. The argument that there was no sell on value, and there was no sell on value for those players. They were bought to do a job without the thought of selling on later.
But at the value of them, it’s par for the course, you don’t see a club like Ajax going over the odds for aged players. It isn’t their model.

The Ajax supporters can speak better on this than me. Would be great if they weighed in.

If it's the right player and they have the money a club will always make the purchase, they're not going to turn down a player who would elevate them over a few million that they absolutely have.

I'm not saying Ziyech is that player but they would do it if they thought it was the right thing to do.

I’m sure Ajax will have scouted ‘the next Antony’ currently playing for Corinthians or similar- amazing that they’ve rejected such a massive bid

Already said this, but now more than ever he needs to go on media and speak against Ajax. This is the only way for him to force the transfer.

Why does any of that make Ajax jokers? The good feeling means nothing… we need them…they are not relying on us for players to help them compete. They are a well run club…unlike us…who have to overpay and the tail end of transfer windows to buy players who have been open to moving for months and months. How any Utd fans could question Ajax here is bizarre. We are the amateurs.

Shame but United should really take Ajax at their word now and walk away. The bid was a very good one, but Ajax are in their right to reject it...but increasing the bid to even more stupid levels wont help anyone.

Antony would never be able to live up to the price tag and would get abused by the media and fans every week.

It would also affect every other transfer fee going forward.

I feel bad for Antony as he clearly really wants to join. Ajax are being so stubborn and bitter. That bid is MORE than fair.

Go sign Ziyech and Kluivert for that money and have plenty to spare. Clearly smoking too much weed on a friday over in Amsterdam.
