There's no one at fault. Ajax are completely within their rights to refuse whatever we offer them. And United are absolutely within their rights to stop at €90m, which is a solid 100% over his value. We offered more than enough, if Ajax don't want that, there's no transfer to be had, there's no one at fault.
Yeah that’s my take but plenty here with an axe to grind against Ajax for some reason.

Let this sink in…we are offering what is UNIVERSALLY recognised as being double what a player is worth because a) we have no alternatives b) we have left it so late c) we have been focusing on another deal where…get this…you will love this bit…the guy openly told everyone he didn’t want to leave the club of his dreams!

you couldn’t make it up and even if the deal goes through…it’s a damning reflection of our transfer strategy once again.

Ajax are fecking jokers.

At the start of summer if you'd have said we'd bid 90m euros for Antony, people would say we're crazy and they'd be laughing all the way to the bank.

Now they're just being stubborn trying to fleece us out of every penny. It's a shame that this is ruining a good feeling between the club.
Come on, why do people keep saying this? It's literally no different to any other club we deal with. They get us to overpay for their players or they don't sell. Where is the good feeling between the clubs? They sure as hell aren't doing us any favors with this supposedly "good feeling".

It is the club's fault. Our chances of signing him would be greater if we did it before they sold half of their first team. We stopped doing anything in the market for the marginal chance of signing De Jong which was never going to happen.

Exactly this. We left it too late whether we sign him or not. On the job training for those at the helm.

isn't it quite tricky to get work permits for south americans in the UK or something?

Da Silva twins held portuguese passports iirc which was one of the reasons we went for them

Because we have (and have had) players and manager connected to Ajax, I suppose there's an assumption we have a good relationship with them. I used to think that too, but I'd argue we have a better relationship with Real Madrid over any other club.

Couldn’t agree more.

Feelbad for Antony but ajax are Absolute clowns.

He was way overpriced anyway but to turn down 90 million is pure stupidity on their part.

Just walk away and leave them with a player that clearly doesn't want to be there.

This is ridiculous. Ajax are clearly trying to take advantage of the desperate situation at Utd. We should go again for him in January. Sign a pre contract or some shit like that.

Feck Ajax and walk away!

Probably this is a blessing in disguise and helps development of Garnacho and Elanga. Just thinking positives here. Let’s put our money in getting a CF

Well, Martial is perma crocked, so we need someone. Shame we waited so long to try get Antony, but that price is bananas. Just get Depay I guess.

Hopefully he doesn't sign a new contract and we can pick him up for free in 2/3 years - I'm sure this is something the player and his agent would have put to the club.

Madness to turn down that kind of money and we should walk away.

You’re right but if you are the player in all this you feel let down and probably do want to blame someone.

I’m not saying Antony is in the right but he seems to think Ajax should let him go if a fair offer is made (will anyone argue that €90m is not fair?). I don’t know what Ajax tell these young talents when they sign but you have to think the next talents might hesitate to go there after this.

So if it’s anybody’s fault, I think Ajax take the most blame. I feel for the player a bit. I suppose he’ll have to knuckle down and play.

Feck Ajax! Hopefully we end up hiring VdS in the near future and the club goes to shit. Is this a massive overreaction? Yes. Do I give a feck? Absolutely not.

they should be over the moon that a club like ours even wants one of their players. it should be such an honour to them that they should consider disbanding the club as it’s all downhill from here. i can only imagine it’s taking this long as when edwin answered the phone and heard “hello edward, this is jon murtough,” he immediately swooned and passed out and they haven’t been able to bring him round since.

Still can't understand why a formal transfer request hasn't been given to the club from him yet. Seems like that shod be step one. Then sit out training/games.

I think he already has sat out training. His agents have also met with their management several times to force a move.

100m should do it.

Who are these magical CF’s you’re thinking about? Elanga? Please…

We genuinely should have just bought their whole club for 400-450m or so, rather than keep going back offering ludicrously high sums

It's a good point that maybe the have to shoulder some blame in regards to Antony, I would agree that he would be right to feel hard done by. But towards United, I don't see anyone at fault here, they don't owe us anything and we don't owe them paying whatever they seem appropriate

Selling clubs sell.

We will get him eventually. Probably for cheaper next summer, similar to Sancho.

But I still think 100m should do the trick.

Antony isn’t going to be in the squad again this weekend and will continue not to train.

Ajax have ruined their relationship with the player.
