I think at the end of the day, they are rejecting these mega offers of ours to prove a point. They won't want to be seen bullied by Man United again. They don't really need Antony to win their domestic league, do they?

This is completely absurd. South American players shouldn't be picking Ajax anymore before making the step up.

It's much better to go to the Portuguese league and have a release clause before signing.

I have now lost hope on this one. It's over for sure. Disappointing, too, as I had faith it would get done.

I'm kind of sure this transfer will eventually happen. There is no logic to refuse that kind of financially big offer because the manager who took charge a few months ago doesn't want to lose him, this is way beyond him.

From a sports aspect, sorry Ajax fans, but it also doesn't make much sense to keep a player against his will who simply wants to join another club.

Interview with a Brazilian outlet to discourage other Brazilians from joining?
Yes something along those lines. My dream was to play for Manchester United and Ajax are keeping me prison and in the process of destroying my dream. Bad PR always works to get what you want.

if anthony was that determined to get ajax to sell him he’d be smearing his shit all over the changing rooms and screaming during any team talks the manager gives. i don’t think he’s as crazy about the move as some are making out.
He’s gone on strike effectively.. what more do you want from the poor guy??

We (seemingly) looked at G/A numbers when we signed Mkhitaryan too, and he was a complete and utter failure. And our scouts should've picked up on the fact that he didn't have the mentality (lots of Dortmund fans said he was mentally weak when we signed him if I remember correctly) intensity or tempo to cope with the Premier League. Same with Depay (even his highlights reels at PSV were flattering). And to a lesser extent with Sancho (he's more talented than the other two, but he's always lacked intensity, and he needs to improve that to succeed here).

Antony might not quite have the numbers to give young'uns a hard-on yet, but I genuinely believe he has everything else needed to be a great player, and that the numbers will come in time.

They don't but it's definitely become a point of pride seemingly for them than anything. No matter what damage it does to their reputation with future talents from abroad or how disillusioned the player himself will get

If we don't sign him and someone blames this on United I'm going all axe murderer
It is the club's fault. Our chances of signing him would be greater if we did it before they sold half of their first team. We stopped doing anything in the market for the marginal chance of signing De Jong which was never going to happen.

We'll go for Memphis at 10m and that will be the end of the window. We walk away from this and its 80m saved for Avram and Joel.

Its so obvious that this one will be done. This is just posturing, Ajax need to come out of this looking like they won this transfer. This isn’t a small club, they’re giants in their own right. We may even have a figure agreed for all we know. We’ll put another bid in for 100 mill and it’ll get accepted. Easy.

I’m reading the posts in here and I must be missing something…why is this Ajax’s issue at all? Why are Ajax at fault? I see nothing other than Utd once again making a balls of things…genuine question…what am I missing?

Ajax are fecking jokers.

At the start of summer if you'd have said we'd bid 90m euros for Antony, people would say we're crazy and they'd be laughing all the way to the bank.

Now they're just being stubborn trying to fleece us out of every penny. It's a shame that this is ruining a good feeling between the club.

That ship sailed when they sold us Donny. Never trusted them since.

I can’t see us returning with another offer if they’ve rejected €90m. No doubt that E.T looking cnut Schreuder is behind this, hopefully comes back to bite him on the arse.

Man Utd took or trainer and then our best defender and now they want our best attacker. So strange they dont want to sell right? Ajax has money in the bank and want to see how far they can go in the champions league this year. Also world cup is coming and if Antony shines there they can get the same money next year.

Exactly

United is blamed for not offering what was required 2-3 months ago. Letting it run til the end of the window before we bid high is a common strategy for United and it makes no sense yet we always do it.

That's what i thought too, it's pride and they know we are desperate enough. I'm guessing the next offer United put in and they'll accept it, though i do not want us to do it

Just go in for Asencio. We'd get him for half the price and he's a far more proven quantity than Antony at both club and international level. It feels like Ajax are making some kind of statement of power now by not selling to us for a fee thats far more than a realistic valuation. Theyll sell him in a couple of seasons for 35m. Its annoying but this is why the well run clubs get their business done early.

Also, because we've left it so late we're committed to it now as there's no time for alternative solutions to be worked on. (And no, Gakpo is a different type of player in a different position).

So it is United's fault that it's come to this. Yet again we've been arrogant and complacent and found the transfer marketplace too unpredictable and hostile.

There's no one at fault. Ajax are completely within their rights to refuse whatever we offer them. And United are absolutely within their rights to stop at €90m, which is a solid 100% over his value. We offered more than enough, if Ajax don't want that, there's no transfer to be had, there's no one at fault.

Pride. Like they give a flying fig about United’s perspective.

No idea why it’s so incredulous for some of you that they actually want to keep the player first and foremost.

Lets not forget what happened with Martinez, they just refused and refused and put the fee higher and higher until they were happy enough. We overpaid.

They're doing the same thing with Antony. They'd be happy to sell at this fee but they want more and more.

I hope we don't buy any more from them.

If he comes in he can revolutionize our attack. People are underestimating what he brings to the table.

There's Timber for next season
