People in this thread literally talking about Ballon d'Or potential for a bloke who scored 8 goals and 4 assists in the Eredivisie. Ah man, I genuinely hope this deal gets canceled. All the people I spoke to who follow the Dutch league closely think he's massively overrated and don't see any reason why a club like us should want him in the first place, let alone pay this amount of silly money.
He was injured for a good while, his g/a p 90 ratio is quite good.

Yeah, we have made mistakes especially with the timing of the deals. At this point it's all damage limitation. We need players, especially left footed right winger so we have to take the hit and get the player.
This is also something that becomes a huge factor so late in the window; how many left-footed right wingers of the prerequisite quality are out there so late in the window?

No but from those examples they paid over the odds for De Ligt, and Mane and Gravenberch both had a year left. Doesn’t really aid your point.

£35m for Mane isn't over the odds - he's one of the best players in the world!

If we sold Pogba last summer we'd have hoped for a similar amount.

There's one bloke who's very familiar with the Dutch league how seems to rate him.

To think I used to laugh at Liverpool for Nunez's fee and Barcelona for Raphinha's.

I'm not laughing now.

I know, I’m saying it’s the opposite. They tend to do clever business, like picking up players with one year left.

Of course he's overrated, but is he better than what we have? I'd say he is. Now is not the time for caution, once more into the fray!

I would be excited if he ever becomes half as good as early Ronaldo. I just don't see it.
Didnt early Ronaldo score like 25 goals in the league? Antony managed 15 in 2 seasons at a side that steamroll 95% of its opposition.

Goals and assists don’t tell the story with Antony. His style will cause chaos in defences, if you could chart how Many goals Ajax scored that Antony had a hand in (pre-assist) I bet it’s higher than most players in Europe.

I'm really surprised United didn't try and get Dembele when he was a free agent. I see him as a perfect traditional Manchester United winger. Incredible with both feet, pace, his finishing is improving now on top of being an assist machine he has everything to succeed in the PL. His fitness record also improved last season and he's twice the player Antony is imo.

My mom's being Dutch I've got quite some nephews and uncles that pass me inside information about all Eredivisie hidden gems. They all loved Ziyech, they rated De Jong and Malacia, they were praiseworthy of Martinez's qualities, but Antony? None of them think he's a bad player, but none of them understands the hype and price tag either.

How is it Wednesday and still no offer to Ajax. WTF Murtough. Get off your ass dude the deadline is looming.

We are going to have to pay a premium until we are able to negotiate from a position of strength, while we have insufficient quality clubs know they have us over a barrel.

Ronaldo didn't get double figures in the league until his 4th season with United

Paying anywhere close to 100 million euros for Antony when 80 was too much 2 months ago really does just sum up this window doesn't it...

Not gonna lie, haven't hoped a deal fell apart more since Maguire. The inability to find alternatives all window is quite worrying.

Same - both Harry Maguire and AWB filled me with the same kind of despair. This is insanity.

Though he was 21/22 at that age wasn't he? Same as Anthony is now.

Dunno why (other) people are even bringing up Ronaldo though - I mean, way to set expectations for the bloke before he's arrived!

It’s inept but at least we’re inept in signing the right sort of player this time. Imagine over paying for a player and all you got was Fellaini.

yeah he was still young even though it was his fourth season

there are always outliers like Ronaldo and Haaland but most attacking players tend to mature a bit older in terms of g/a productivity

I didn’t say finished article; I meant a player who the manager doesn’t even have to teach his methods to as he is assimilated already. That’s months of coaching reduced to purely working on improving the player.

I don’t know what we’re supposed to do so late in the window, but I blame the club for that and accept we’ve snookered ourselves into a penalty tax situation no matter who we go after, so why not have it be who the manager asked for at the start of summer?

How do you guys repeatedly manage to come up with insane logic to justify the clubs moronic decision making?

From Ole's cultural reset to this

If he is angling for a move that puts us in a stronger position surely?? but we are still looking to pay 100 million euros..

I like the look of the player but this is a huge fee..
