Sorry but there’s no objective metric to support your claim. Look I am not saying he is bad player, but he definitely isn’t the most impressive one from Dutch league, and definitely not worth 80m+ we are trying to bid here. Painful truth is that he has very average stats on shooting, key pass, assist, goals, dribbling and performance, in about every measurable metric we would look at an attacking wing forward.

Have you ever heard about the McNamara-fallacy? "Making a decision based solely on quantitative observations (or metrics) and ignoring all others."

However, with more date available, you could easily see where Antony excel.

Antony is outstanding compared to the very best players in the world in terms of;

- Progression of the ball (both carries and passing)
- Passes and crosses into the penalty area
- Carries into the penalty area
- Recoveries

But for those stats you have to look at data from Statsbomb at fbref from their CL-campaign.

Sometimes you have to ask the question backwards. Lets assume EtH know what you do about Antony, and he probably do, why would he still want Man Utd to pay alot for him? Probably due to Man Utd being poor in transition, build-up and press-phase. Antony is, according to the data, very good in all these phases of play.

Too expensive and not worth it at all. Specially with the signing of Martinez and VDB from Dutch League, it shall be a red flag for us to not spend more than 40M on any player from that league. This is also the reason, I am skeptical about Gapko or whatever his name is. I would rather we spend 40 to 50M on Bailey or Neto who are proven and exactly what we need.

Hard to believe Ajax turning down that offer, maybe they think his value can stabilize or go up off a good World Cup?

Come on Antony, submit a transfer request if you really want it

Bloody hell, surprised we're going higher. Hope we do though, quality and great fun to watch.

How many matches have you seen of the Dutch league to claim Antony 'definitely' isn't the the most impressive ome from the Dutch league?

You are just looking at stats, totally disregard that Antony has also missed a big part of last season and you probably haven't seen him more often than two or three times.

Most pundits in NL, who are actually watching him every week, will say that Antony is the most impressive player in the Dutch league. For me he definitely is. Sure Gakpo and Tadic have better stats, but they have a different role in the team and they are not as spectecular or have the potential as Antony. Regardless of whether this claim is debatable or not, for you to come out saying he definitely isn't whilst I doubt you've seen that much of the ED is a bit strange.

I do think Antony's stats need to improve. I also know however that there are good reasons why his stats aren't that impressive. I am pretty convinced Antony is the player with the highest potential in the Eredivisie at this moment.

If we’re paying this much then he’s got to hit that ground running like Bruno did. ETH must rate him something special and out of this world to persist.

I want Antony badly such an exciting player. Don't care how much it costs either as it's better out of Glazer pockets than in it.

They probably did rightly piss him off, they said they enated 80m and rejected it when they got it.

Seeing another brazilian in Casemiro join probably had him even more ready to move

Well you do know they aren't sanctioning these moves by generously donating from their own pockets. It coming from the club's coffers. We spend what we earn.

I have only watch all his best highlights and all his stats to draw such conclusion. You don’t have to watch every minutes to understand whether a certain player is among the most impressive or not. He is an attacking player for a start, and stats and highlights do give people an idea when we are trying to differentiate whether he is among the most elite group or not. Doesn’t really take rocket scientist to see this, most impressive players should be very easy for everyone to spot. This is often 99.999% accurate when I look at young elites such as Mbappe, Haaland, Vinicius Junior, Foden, Pedro, Gavi etc. Antony shouldn’t be the only 0.001% exception here, when the metric does apply to everyone else.

100% he wants to come.. just need him to kick up a fuss and we’ll get him. €80m is more than a fair offer.

Well you are completely ignoring his shots on goal stats there. Anyway here’s their overall attacking stats comparison.

Tadic
Shot on goal: 2.2
Goal: 13
Key pass: 4.1
Assist: 19
Dribble: 1.1
Avg rating: 7.80
Motm: 7

Antony
Shot on goal: 3.4
Goal: 8
Key pass: 1.6
Assist: 4
Dribble: 1.8
Avg rating: 7.47
Motm: 3

Gakpo
Shot on goal: 3
Goal: 12
Key pass: 2.6
Assist: 13
Dribble: 2.9
Avg rating: 7.79
Motm: 9

Best goalscorer/finishing: Tadic
Worst: Antony

Best creator/assist: Tadic
Worst: Antony

Best dribbler: Gakpo
Worst: Tadic

Best performer: Gakpo/Tadic
Worst: Antony

Tadic took 7 penalties last season. Missed 3. He took only 5 less shot than Antony. Minus that all penalties and their shots. The goal per shot (conversion rate) is almost the identical.

Tadic minutes per goal is much worse.

In what world higher shot on goal means worse shooter?

Are you even educated on understanding stats?

Educate yourself before you talk to fan of other clubs.

You don't even watch their games.

He's clearly the main target for the attack and it makes sense. Left footed right winger, hard worker, huge potential. I don't really want Gakpo even as a cheap alternative, I'd rather loan someone and wait a year for Antony. Paying 80-100m is overkill, but hey if money is no object to us all of a sudden, then just do it. We haven't supported the manager enough this summer and now are in a position where we need to.

I'd still prefer a GK and a loan attacker and then get Antony next summer, but the goalkeeper doesn't seem to be happening.

The “it’s not your money” argument for over-paying on signings overlooks the fact that a price tag like that comes with immense pressure and scrutiny, especially if it involves signing for United.

We’ve had two solid examples of how players haven’t had the mentality to cope with that pressure (Pogba, Maguire)

They probably did rightly piss him off, they said they enated 80m and rejected it when they got it.

Pretty much an overreaction. It's standard procedure that players don't have to show up for training when a transfer could be done.
All this tells me is that Ajax expects United to come back with a better offer.

Yes of course I understand that, but the more left in our coffers the more is there for them to steal.

Even his high price is a reflection of lacking real alternatives in the market who have similar traits. Gnabry is the most familiar player but unrealistic and signed a new deal recently. That leaves you with Neto and Olise as good alternatives but IMO Antony is a better player at moment.

GSC Stats

General Stats

Possession

Passing

These stats are from comparison with other wingers in European competitions, based on his Champions League games last season, not Eredivisie. Really hope we will sign him in the end.

True but we do need money to spend on others. If we pay big money for one player then they use that an excuse to not sanction another signing.

I don't like overpaying. But if we're going to overpay I prefer it being for our main targets, of which Antony appears to have been one from the very start.

All my Dutch family members (Mom side of the family is Dutch) were already flabbergasted when they read that we were willing to pay 50 million for this bloke, let alone 80 million. 'Heavily overrated'. 'Not nearly as good as anyone says'. 'Don't believe the hype', were the main reactions I got back from them. Sadly, I think we're paying too much, once again, for an Ajax player which are often overhyped and overpriced.

So they are Feyenoord fans?

Funny you mention Vinicius because one year ago he was viewed as someone lacking an end product (3 goals 5 Assists in 20/21) and not having what it takes to succeed at Real Madrid.

The money is obviously there with Casemiro and then this bid. Plus we don't know how it will be structured I guess.. I think this will happen and quite possibly a new RB and backup GK.

Come on man. Try to be unbiased on this - is he really a 80m player? Rasford at his best for United couple a years ago wasn't even close to that. And Rashford actually had good stats 2 seasons in a row. Double digit goals and assists.

If we sign him, then Glazers are actually very concerned about Mondays protest.
