Sorry but there’s no objective metric to support your claim. Look I am not saying he is bad player, but he definitely isn’t the most impressive one from Dutch league, and definitely not worth 80m+ we are trying to bid here. Painful truth is that he has very average stats on shooting, key pass, assist, goals, dribbling and performance, in about every measurable metric we would look at an attacking wing forward.
Have you ever heard about the McNamara-fallacy? "Making a decision based solely on quantitative observations (or metrics) and ignoring all others."
However, with more date available, you could easily see where Antony excel.
Antony is outstanding compared to the very best players in the world in terms of;
- Progression of the ball (both carries and passing)
- Passes and crosses into the penalty area
- Carries into the penalty area
- Recoveries
But for those stats you have to look at data from Statsbomb at fbref from their CL-campaign.
Sometimes you have to ask the question backwards. Lets assume EtH know what you do about Antony, and he probably do, why would he still want Man Utd to pay alot for him? Probably due to Man Utd being poor in transition, build-up and press-phase. Antony is, according to the data, very good in all these phases of play.
