So when you support a club, you're supposed to be delusionnal about your players performances? I go to PSG forums as well and don't have any trouble calling it the way I see it.

I questionned the version of Casemiro United would get yes, and when he was good, I went back to the same thread to say he was. Because, you know, I don't have any problem saying I was proven wrong or that things didn't go the way I thought they would.

United fans like Antony on a United forum. Shock horror.

The stranger thing is a PSG fan being angry and posting on the United forum about it.

Not that I disagree with your view on Antony, but how does a PSG fan end up on a United forum?

I came here randomly once and decided to stick around because it gives me of view of what's going on in the PL and there's a lot of quality posters.

I must have missed the part in the terms of use of this forum where it's written that it's mandatory to be a fanatic United fan that isn't allowed to try to have a fair and balanced opinion about players.

You’re rambling again.

Odd thing to get vexed about. Accept it or go elsewhere really. Simples.

Is calling it as I see it (and as any normal person should see it) an "issue"?

Yes he was good tonight, far better than Raphinha. Yet, he didn't touch the ball once during the play that lead to Brazil's goal. That's the simple truth.

What I read in this thread by some posters doesn't seem to match the games I see on television. "Gem", "he's so good", "he's going to be a United legend" after good performances is just a huge exageration. You want to see a gem,

Sorry to burst your bubble but he still has a lot to do to deserve being called a "gem". You want to see a gem, watch Kvaratskhelia with Napoli, it's a very different level.

He's one of the most talented dribblers in the world and somehow he's not a gem? He can be incredibly direct and a nightmare for defenders. He just needs to apply it more consistently during games. As the game grew, the Brazilian players started noticing something always happened when Antony got the ball so they started giving him the ball more often.

And as for Kvaratskhelia, no doubt he's a gem but he's doing it against Bologna and Empoli in a team that absolutely obliterates their opposition. Put him in Manchester United and he will not thrive like he does in Napoli.

Nah you have a silly issue with Antony - I remember you rambling on before the WC even. Never mind anyway.

Played well today like you said.

I'm pretty sure you don't get to tell people what they should or shouldn't do. Sorry.

Let's say I don't share your enthusiasm. To me he's a player with a good potential that is nowhere near the best at anything yet. He averages 1.5 completed dribbles per game over the last 365 days (57th percentile) when a player like Dembele is at 3.28 for exemple.

He isnt much worse than Raphinha who some made some God this summer. Very much the same level and much younger. Should be starting the next WC. Neres should be in the squad too though.

He was great today. Unlucky to be on the losing team.

I thought he looked good
He ran hard, defended well and was tidy in possession.
It doesn't bother me as it was in a Brazil shirt but I don't think he created one chance and while he beat his marker a few times the marker made up the distance on him and stopped the threat.
Maybe he needs to be more incisive and use his very good technique and get into the positions that really hurt the opposition as to me he seems to be on the periphery more often than not.

Yeah. He is somehow conspiring with himself to be ineffective (or less effective than he should be). He did the hard work several times only to fritter the opportunity he’d created for himself.

His pace is decent when he runs hard, as you put it. I think he will improve a lot.

That dive was so damn ugly.
I'm not fond of him. On pace he can outsprint his marker in midfield but in the penalty area he just comes inside and tries a shot. His trickery is like Cristiano just there for showboating. The only thing that he has over other players at utd is his winning character and confidence.
He will shine in spurts but I think Ajax skinned us. We've been had.

He does look better than Raphina though

People keep saying "better than Raphinha" but that isn't exactly a very high bar. Raphinha has been very poor this world cup and majority of his time at Barca. I get why Tite started him as he's more direct but some of his actions are very brainless and frustrating. Antony should of probably got the start but it is what it is now.

Neither player looks anything special imo, Antony has time on his side though. Unpopular opinion but Martinelli looks the biggest talent from the Brazil attack bar Vini jr.

For what it's worth I don't see what you've posted as being that controversial or out of bounds, you do you, mate. It's good to have different opinions and insights on here.

Thanks mate.

Why does it seem like so many want him to fail? I don't get it.

I'm not sure that a lot of people want him to fail, it's more about having an honest analysis based on his performances. So far he's good, better than that options United had before, but there's nothing amazing or world class that justifies having the certainty he's going to be an elite player within a couple of years. You can have a gut feeling he will, that's totally fine and I have that myself but you need to acknowledge it's only a gut feeling.

He has a lot of qualities for sure, he's also very predictable (mostly because he's so one footed) when he reaches the last third and doesn't make enough differences in 1v1. At the moment, he's a good player for a team struggling to get in the top4, nothing more than that.

Thought his appearance tonight was one of his better ones for Brazil in this WC but one thing most might not remember and I think deep down Antony knows is how poor he was in the second to last phase to Croatia scoring, he looked more distraught than anyone at the end.

Neymar was standing over the freekick fairly deep into Croatia's half and opted to just roll it out wide to Antony to kill time and not risk a ball towards the penalty area, Antony stupidly lost it right away, Brazil got it back and Neymar again plays it to Antony to who loses it again immediately. Had he done better keeping the ball safe the pattern of play doesn't evolve into Croatia breaking away in the next phase. Croatia didn't break directly from Antony's ball loss mind, it lead to another phase were others can be blamed directly. Who knows, perhaps with Brazil holding back generally Croatia find another way.

Croatia hadn’t found anything resembling a way for 116 mins, invluding Brazil ceding possesion on the wings lots of times during that. The collective mindfart of a)having to many people too far up field that b) weren’t prepared to track back at the first hint of a possible ball loss. To let an opponent counter six to four with four minutes left of a one nil WC quarter final: Only Brazil. And not the 2002/1994 kind.

Was good.
Didn't like the dive after a challenge by Perišić. I think that's why there was bad blood between them after that.

Do united fans think Anthony is better than Sancho talent wise? Just curious.

Brazil looked more of a threat after he came on. I just don't understand why Tite didn't choose him over Raphinha. He was not a threat throughout the tournament at all. Yet, Antony brought a new dimension to the team after coming on.

I’m surprised he can take time away from staring at his Mbappe posters to do anything.

I reckon because in the games before yesterday, when he came on, he was very average. Perhaps getting back up to speed after a fair bit of time injured

In case you missed something, you can dominate without scoring (Spanish fans can talk about that). The truth is, he has little to no contribution in the play when they scored the goal.

He was pretty good tonight, better than Raphinha, Yet, he finishes this world cup with 0 goals and 0 assists in 180mn or so.

The way you're trying to oversell the performances of your "gem" doesn't make much sense.
Yep, he really struggles to score unless it’s a tap in that’s provided to him on a platter!

Him and sancho are just two of the most gifted and talented footballers in the world. With them both, we are getting back to the glory days where we are feared and reknowned for our electrifying wingers on either side of the field. Exciting times.

I wouldn't say that, he has a nice and powerful long distance shot but he'll need to mix it with other moves because unless he reaches a Messi/Robben kind of refinement, soon enough any center back in the PL will know what he'll attempt.

Sorry bud, wasn’t actually aimed at you and wasn’t being serious! A poster (or posters?) was going on about how all Antony did was score tap ins - this was criticising him after his first 3-4 appearances when he had 2-3 goals against quality opposition as well. This place is mad sometimes.

I thought he played very well, he was rinsing multiple Croatian players at a time, and getting taken out most of the time after doing so. The dive was awful though.
