feck all of you that have a problem with the trick. What you seen was a 'show pony', whereas what I see is a winger who works his fecking ass off to come back and win tackle in defence, that barely loses the ball, that contribute goals and I'm sure the assists and running at defenders is coming. If you watch his game at Ajax we have seen maybe 50% so far but that 50% is awesome. Scholes can feck off because despite the 'trick' the lad did his usual winning tackles and tracking back on the wing. As far as I'm concerned he's allowed the odd pointless trick considering his workrate is immense. Hopefully that trick was a sign he is getting comfortable in the jersey and in the team so that we see him unleash the last 50% of his ability over the coming weeks. The lad has been nothing but a breath of fresh air so far.

I think that trick was cool. Let him do so if it doesn't harm our play.

Fantastic player. Fantastic piece of skill and a fantastic attempt at a very difficult pass.

Ronaldo was doing tricks all the time before he become more direct and clinical.
Antony is still young and wants to impress, nothing wrong with that.
Yep, he used to be excessive with the tricks and was told to tone it down, and became a world beater. It's Antonys first season so its all good, I just wish he does it when we're time wasting.

It wasn't a fantastic attempt and the pass wasn't very difficult though.
I look forward to your further posts in this thread. I know exactly how they’re going to go. That skill last night would’ve near killed you

It was a terrible pass, let’s not make out it was anything other than that
It was a through ball in the box; a "key" pass as they call it. It was poor but hardly something to kill a player for; It happens 30 times a game but this one gets attention because it was preceded by that trick. I could make the argument that the trick "confused" the opposition if you look at them, they stooped tracking runners and made that situation look more obvious.

It was a non issue IMO and something you will find in huge amounts of from players like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Neymar, etc. Supremely talented individuals will sometimes do things that can look silly. If it were in Spain the focus would have been on the technical quality; in England...showboating. Just silly from the media and pundits to make a discussion point from this.

I hope he does this every game now whether we are drawing, winning or losing. Just do it and spin a few times.

The funny thing is, that spin helped open a bit of space. The pass was slightly over hit otherwise it would have been pretty cool.

Can't believe the overreaction, he didn't lose possession doing that or because of that, he was just having some fun, barely had any effect on anything.

I enjoy the skill and want him to do it more. feck what the pundit says.

But to say it was a hard pass (literally a straight line and a big gap between defenders) is just silly. To say it was a fantastic attempt at the pass is silly too.

Dunno why you keep trying to lecture me, all I said was that it was a terrible pass (which it was). I haven’t laid into him at all

I'm not..sorry if it comes across that way. It was a bad pass yes but I see a huge amount of complaining about it in the media and I was making a wider point. Maybe I should have made it more clear it was not about your post in particular.

Yeah exactly and I think it's a bigger problem because he's on the right.

Maybe he's another winger who's better on the left :wenger:
When did wingers stop rotating? He and Garnacho/Sancho/whoever should think back about 20 years to when it was common for the wingers to switch sides every now and then, mix it up a bit.

I think you're fairly confused @mu4c_20le - most people don't give a toss which of our players done it, they find the overreaction to a piece of skill absolutely hilarious. I also enjoyed it the other week when Richarlison was showboating. Why? Because of the ridiculous OTT reaction.

I don't give a shite who done it last night; be it Ronnie, Antony or fecking Malacia. Seeing some of the frothing at the mouth over something so trivial has been quite amusing. No idea why you're making assumptions that I don't like Ronaldo btw, that's not what this is about. At the time, I actually thought the skill was fairly odd, but I've enjoyed the reaction.

It’s not silly at all. He played the ball through three defenders into the space that a United player was going into. Rashford would’ve reached it. Suppose it’s Antonys fault that it was Casemiro that made the run

I’ve just looked at your post history in this thread....sure you enjoyed the skill

Every other post you’ve made is negative too.

People claim it was a terrible pass. I say it's not. The older folks may remember that in Dutch football it's the space that's important and not the pass to a player. That was open space and a player should be running into that space. Not saying that Antony was doing it under this philosophy but it's not a bad pass at all.

Good job Scholesy. Shutter the confidence of a young player for having fun and expressing himself. That will help the club

Imagine Antony doing that in that dressing room  if we have a strong dressing room, some of the boys took antony for sure and told him "Mate, tricks are nice when they have a point".

At least try taking on a man while being one on one, been waiting for it since he arrived. Garnacho did it many times in one match yet Antony can't dribble past anyone. Does 425 fake moves and 25 step overs before passing it backwards or cutting to the inside and sending a horrible cross or passing it backwards.

Every year at the start of May, British pundits gather on a remote Scottish island and burn one of those street performers who do keepie-ups alive inside a giant wicker effigy of Razor Ruddock precisely to stop this sort of nonsense making our beautiful game less miserable

Maybe he should have looked at what teamate was running instead of spinning, so he knows who he's passing to and can adjust his pass? That might be the reason why most good players actually keep their head up and don't spin, so they actually know what they're doing.

At lot of reactions are over the top after what Antony did but please don't try to make it sound as if it was a brilliant move with a great pass, it was not.

That makes more sense. I dont have an issue with the skill either, its just that I'm willing to admit I would've been frustrated had we not won. Richarlison's was different, he was wasting time protecting a lead and it frustrated the opponent into lunging at him, which was indeed hilarous.

Scholes was spot on about that 'Skill' tonight , it added nothing , had no real function and is not really a skill. You could see ETH was not impressed by it either,

But it is no big deal , he will grow out of that.

Many of us will remember when Ronaldo came here first he was doing all these needless step overs that added no value to his or the teams game , even Roy Keane referenced it the other day saying how the it would annoy the other players as well when he was doing them.

But Ronaldo grew out of it and so will Anthony.
Teenager Ronaldo at least knew how to progress the f***ing ball, He was the most prolific dribbler in europe with Ronaldinho, and he knew how to cross the ball very well too. Antony is scared to take his guard for a run, He's not doing a good wingplay.
As stated teenage Ronaldo was usually on the run, trying to progress forward and actually beat his man as opposed to just stand still and then pass backwards. The level of aggression and desire to beat their respective opponents, and cause havoc are literally OCEANS apart and below are clips from teenage Ronaldo 1st season as a teenager. he was super aggressive and direct

I don’t know what’s funnier, the pundits going crazy over it or people on redcafe.

I absolutely can’t wait for him to do the triple spin around next. I hope he does it with absolutely no one around him for a good 30 yards. In fact it would be even more glorious if he does it once the half-time whistle goes and he’s still stood there spinning around.

Antony has responded to the criticism over his trick via his Instagram story.

"samos conhecidos pela nossa arte e eu não vou para de fazer o que me trouxe aonde eu estou!".

Which apparently translates as:

"We are known for our art and I will not stop doing what has brought me to where I am!".

Perhaps the spin created the channel for the pass.

Should’ve looked who has was passing to  ffs. Oh I’ll play it shorter because Casemiro is slow.

I think it's just the weird bitter reactions towards skill that amuses people, albeit in different scenarios. I don't know if you watched the match on BT, but listening to Savage drone on about it for the whole match was certainly amusing. It was like it personally offended him.

"We are known for our art and I will not stop doing what has brought me to where I am!".

What an idiot. Art? What art? How about practicing an "art" of shooting with his right foot? Those who defend this nonsense should go to circus where lions and bears roll big balls.

Oh the drama.

Defending. Nonsense.. You'd think we're talking about something way more serious. Relax a bit.

Oh come on, is this literally the first time you've seen a United winger/attacker do something a bit silly? Nani vs Arsenal, Ronaldo to numerous opponents when he was younger. Finally we have another winger that wants to entertain and we have the likes of you acting like he's just murdered somebody. Cop on.

Looks like you guys have forgotten. Ronaldo was rightly admonished for pointless stepovers all the time. He would love to try and beat the same player twice and was slow to release the ball.

But he had the right manager in SAF who saw the talent and worked with him, gave him the platform to improve.

For the first two yrs 03-04, 05-06 he was this type of a player.

2nd half of 05-06, things started changing, we started playing beautiful football, with Saha instead of RVN, and then of course 06-07 and history was made.

Opposition players will try to do this in the dying minutes whenever we're losing

+ He helped in defense.
+ tried a shot with his right foot which was a good one

-missed many passes, especially the one after his useless trick
-never ever dribbled past anyone, always passing the ball sideways or backwards. Any defender must think they need to cover Antony to the inside, He'll never beat them to the outside. It's becoming predictable.
