Poor performance by him today.

Where is the Valencia of last season gone?

Seems to be lacking confidence as well. He made such runs many times in a match last season.

I was screaming bloody murder at him just before Johnson made the challenge... great opening and he was clearly intent on passing it, to the point where he nearly messed up the whole thing!!

He did play for the penalty very well though, so credit to him for that.

They marked him out of the game. I haven't seen our right wing look so ineffective in some time. There's a reason why we usually seem to direct our attacks there and it's due to the in-form winger consistently producing something.

But that speed run was the best thing he did all game. I hope it's just a one off performance because we can't afford to see Valencia go out of form as well.

He's been pretty damn poor for the last three games, probably one of his least consistent spells for us since he got here!

Talk about exaggeration. It's weird how the Gala game influenced some people's views on him this season. He was decent against Southampton.

What? I said the last 3 games, being decent against Southampton and poor in the other two qualifies as "pretty poor" for me anyway.

Besides, it was more of a compliment than anything, because he's been such a consistent player for us since he got here.

made a bad decision by not either shooting or passing the ball, but got lucky that johnson made an even worse one and that eventualy got us the winning goal, no doubt in the pen for me.
Otherwise yeah, he's been pretty poor by his standards recently, however I can't see him not improving any time soon so I'm not that worried.

That's still a pretty high bar to set, if only there was something between poor and good when it comes to United players.

Mad a big mistake today not pulling the ball back for Kagawa and opted for the corner after the first goal. The penalty for the second goal was fortunate for him too. never pass

That was scandalous!!!

Don't understand why he did that.

Has been struggling a bit lately and I wonder if he maybe isn't fully fit atm?

He usually is an unstoppable train down the right side but the last few games he has been a bit tame imo. the only time he looked like his old self was when he made that burst that won us the pen.

That run was amazing, but he almost fecked up everything with his decision making.
Yes, we got a penalty, but it was lucky one, he should have passed it earlier or shoot earlier, but as in his last 157 dribbling attempts, he picked the same characteristic dribling, and got lucky penalty.

Another poor game for him.

Wait what? Poor game? Another?

He's our most consistant player ffs! He was also one of our better players out there, just check the MotM for an unbiased opinion.

Someone with an unbiased opinion wouldn't put him into his top 3 today. But he is consistent thats true. This first few games consistently average

Not one other player in our team could do what he did to win he penalty today. He literally made the winner from nothing. A ball he had no right to be getting to first.

He wasn't brilliant but he wasn't poor and he limited Glen J runs forward, some people are harsh and expect to much there was certainly worse than Valencia today.

His acceleration and explosion of pace in that one moment was a pure joy to watch, leaving Liverpool players behind and on the ground.

Absolutely unpredictable player in a good way, even if it wasn't his day.

For sure.

Saved his game that did, was distinctly average apart from that. Had been a bad day for all our wingers up until that point. Great great sign to do something like that.

He was invisible in the first half, Reina probably had more touches than him. In the second half he didn't do anything special too, he did won us a penalty, but that's probably it.

Valencia has always been slow to start a season since he's been here. Come November time there will be a lot of sorry full backs around.

Strange game. Johnson looked to running rings round Valencia and Rafael all day long, and yet both of our goals came from that side.

I reckon we could do with Valencia in central midfield, he's one it for Venezuela. He's got the drive and physique for it. He's not afraid to get stuck and has a powerful shot on him as well. Only concern would be his passing range, short one-two's are usually no problem for him, never seen him go for longer passes though.

Or.... we could just play Anderson there and let Valencia do what he's best at.

And why the feck is Ecuadorian Antonio Valencia playing for fecking Venezuela  :eek:

Fair enough, he's exceptional on the wing, I give you that. But Anderson? His current ability is nowhere near enough. We've seen Rafael play in there before when we're short of options, Valencia would imo be the better option.

That run was amazing

Yes,that was brilliant.

apart from that run above which led to a penalty, i thought valencia was poor.

i guess he is a slow starter after all. good to know while he is still far away from being at his best ( he is not alone) at this stage of the season and we are just 1 point off the leader.

I didn't think he was particularly good, even the run itself.. he should've cut in and struck with his left or released the ball, we were fortunate that Glenj saw the need to jump in rashly.

He affects the fluidity of our movement off the ball in a negative way in my opinion, due to him only being effective when he's situated on the right flank.
