Messi esque. Who said he is in decline?

That was just after coming on too and I thought, awesome, Valencia is gonna have a blinder.

How wrong I was...

Our team just statically watching him run about:lol: Watching that is bizarre, it's like one of those training games where you're told only to use your bad foot.

I think Zaha spells the end of Tony V. Think his injuries have taken a yard of pace or two, and his confidence has taken a huge knock.

They're wondering what hes doing when he starts dribbling backwards at the beginning. Then its Valencia wondering what he's doing when he corrects and starts dribbling forward.

There were a few other times that Valencia went to start running in circles with the ball like in that gif, only the other times he gave it away. He so incredibly one footed its ridiculous. For a professional footballer, to be that afraid to use his left foot is simply embarrassing really. He doesn't even take touches with it ffs.
I remember how shocked I was when he did that one cross with his left foot a few weeks ago

So embarrassing he made it to the pinnacle of playing for Manchester United. Do all you footballing geniuses think he should suddenly change the style that brought him from the Ecuadorian jungles all the way to a club like Manchester United? It's what got him here, and at one point, made him one of our best players.

People are going way over the top with the analysis of Valencia's form.

Yes, he's playing garbage, and yes he has been all season, but the suggestions that he's been 'found out' are laughable, and the talk about him being one footed is irrelevant. I don't even think he's lost any pace or power.

For me, all his problems are in his head. For whatever reason, his confidence is absolutely fecked and he looks like he genuinely doesn't know what to do when he has the ball. It's a big problem, but one that hopefully will be resolved in the off season, with him finding his true form again next year.

As bad as he's been though, he doesn't deserve half the shit he's been getting from some corners, especially in the match threads.

Funny thing is Garrincha's talked about as the greatest winger ever alongside Georgie yet it wasn't uncommon to see him run around in circles using only his right foot either...in fact I reckon you could probably find an almost identical clip of Garrincha doing what Valencia did there. It's completely mental that people feel the need to talk about his left foot every single week.

Erm, not to mention Maradona, albeit with his left foot.

It's not about about how good he is with both feet. Its his ability to thing beyond beating his man with pace. It's frustrating. He has all the attributes, except the one that is most important in professional football...variety. For that reason alone, he either has to adapt to another position or play for another club because that's just not good enough for Tony (sadly).

When on form any player is brilliant, but stand out players show there mettle when things are not going well for them. Shit, at least Rooney tries different things when he's not on form, Valencia keeps on doing the same damn thing.

Definition of insanity "Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result"

This!

People on here seem to ask for excuses as to his poor form and why he won't cut it at United anymore. He hasn't lost pace - his run against Liverpool was after people talked about him losing pace. He hasn't lost strength either.

Maybe Dr. Phil could solve this?

Personally, I just think he's having a poor season.

Yep..which is why Fergie will stick by him and see what happens next season.

He has not been found out because simply, there isn't anything to find out. Defenders know exactly what to expect from Valencia but in previous seasons, he was so efficient at doing his one trick, that even full backs like Ashley Cole did not know how to deal with him. He has been absolute pants this season but it's all psychological. He does not run at defenders anymore and he second guesses himself when trying to put a ball in the box.

Valencia had been a pretty consistent performer even with his well publicised left foot weakness over the last 3 seasons. His default movement has always been to beat his man on the outside. These days he cuts inside a lot more looking for a simple pass, avoiding taking any responsibility. Whatever is wrong it's not a simple case of being one footed, or his predictability.

This.

The annoying thing about his reluctance to use his left is that the few times he's done it to put in a cross it's usually led to a chance even if the ball wasn't the best. End of the day taking a chance and putting a ball in is more often than not going to be better than either completely slowing the attack by trying to turn on to his right in space or pass the ball sideways.

Vastly improved today, I thought.

Delighted, no more games for him until the end of the season.

Antonio Valencia has admitted he has been a let-down for Manchester United this season.

Valencia was United’s Player of the Year last season, but has failed to score in 30 appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side this term.

He has provided just five assists for the champions-elect in the Premier League and blamed his poor form on his failure to shake off an old injury.

“It’s not been quite the season I would have hoped for on a personal front,” said Valencia.

“I think the injuries I’ve had have held me back a bit. I still get the odd twinge from the last injury I had to my leg and that has perhaps affected my progress slightly.

“I hope to get the chance to be involved in as many games as possible.

“if I’m picked I’m determined to grab my opportunities and do my best for my team-mates, the manager and the fans.”

At least he knows he's been shite.

He'll get another year, if it's the same as this one he'll be off unless he can reinvent himself somehow.

He plays (or used to anyway) CM for Ecuador I think. As his pace goes, it might be an option.

And that's all we can ask. Good stuff from Tony, he comes across as a driven bloke and that's why I won't lose faith in him.

Hopefully the quotes are real. I have no idea these days.

He doesn't need to reinvent himself. He needs to get back to his best. He's just having a shit season, of course he's not going anywhere in the summer.

Good to hear him say he know he hasn't been up to scratch this season. Confirms that he is carrying a niggling injury as well. In his current form, I'd like to see him given up to a month of so he can actually heal and then come back fully healed. Otherwise the longer we keep playing him with the niggle the less likely it will ever heal.

Same here. He's had a crap season, no doubt, but he knows it and seems determined to get back to his best.

Hopefully a good summers rest will clear up any small injuries. I definitely wouldn't want him to leave, even if he is very frustrating to watch at the moment.

Ooohh god no.

I think I just did a little sick in my mouth.

I wouldn't recommend it at all. Just saying what I remember (very briefly) from internationals.
My hope is Tony reverts to his old self and starts ripping full backs a new one. He is a pro - no flashy interviews, courting the media and all that shit. He even left his agent as he thought the club would take care of him. I hope the club does take care of him.
