Better but still nowhere near what is expected from previous seasons. The times he did beat his man his crossing was pretty woeful, however, his short passing looked fine to me.

Not even remotely close to creating anything and posters now think this is a good game from him, how he has fallen.
Give in, only a single one of the posts in this thread after the game claimed that! Some saw slight improvement, I'd agree with that, and that's something to be positive about.

Below par still, but his physical attributes seem slighly improved as he tried to run past his opponents a few times today, but Rose isn't sluggish even if Valencia is faster. Defenders still double up on him and our players still don't give him any help as the tend to stop and look at him thinking "how will he solve this". Must be frustrating for him also. He needs to improve his crossing though, big time.

Good spot. There was a moment when he was surrounded by some 6 players in the first half and he had literally no one to pass the ball to. Double or triple marking has been customary this season as well. It's the confidence and lack of that one nanosecond advantage he used to have over full-backs. Whether it's caused by the injury's effects or not is something only he really knows.

What I liked in his last few games (apart from the Chelsea one) was that he started to think about taking players on. As if he regained a bit of confidence - he still doing nothing with it obviously, but I've seen him a bit more purposeful.

Sadly, yes, his crossing has been woeful. The biggest disappointment for me.

I agree Tomus I have like his purpose lately he seems intent on attacking the full back again and that is good.

He's got the Torres syndrome.

Fortunately he didn't cost 50 Million and we've already had a few fantastic seasons out of him.

Yeah I agree with this. At least he sprinted and looked to threaten the full back yesterday. It's sad that how far he's fallen is to the level that thats considered an improvement though.

He started off well, and got progressively worse. Rafael going off didn't help his cause. Smalling is an awful at right back. Evans looked a better right back when they were out of position and swapped places for a few minutes.

He needs to relax in possession. He's too het up all the time and thinks he has to beat a man every time.

If he relaxes any more opposition full backs will have time for a snooze.

I'm not sure if I find it amusing or just tragic that posters are now saying stuff like "at least he tried taking on the fullback, that's a good sign". As an attacking threat this season he's been absolutely useless.

He was poor again.

Serious Q: Which teams would go after Valencia if he was made available? Would he end up at a top team, or somewhere like QPR, Sunderland?

By "this season", I assume you mean "since December", as Valencia was playing well at the start of the season. Not sure why it seems to have been rounded up to the entire season.

I've had a crazy thought.

How crazy would it be to start singing the name of a player that was playing badly?

Sounds crazy doesn't it.

They'd have to think of a crazy new name for crazy people that did that, like "fanatics or "supporters" or something.

better teams than young.

valencia would also probably be open to going to la liga or serie a as well so there would be a greater market for his services.

His start of the season was nothing special, his performances were pretty much average, but he is obviously great players so looking through longer periods we will miss him, without a doubt. I hope he will be back soon though.

Hope he's ok as he's a cracking player. Godfather is right though he has been going through a bit of a poor patch over the last few games. Class is permanent and all that.

Aye, bar the assist, I thought Tony was poor. It's weird how we've started the season and none of our wingers have hit top form. Good thing we've adopted various approaches and brought in Kagawa and RVP. Now we don't have to be so reliant on our wingers.

Apart from the assist, he was really poor today. He started to take his man on a bit more in the second half but he still seems too hesitant and lacking in confidence to me. Nani looked far sharper when he came on. Nani in a front 3 with Rooney and RvP would be lethal.

If he played for any other team we'd be calling him a hit and run merchant. He's way too one dimensional to play in our current set up.

Bollocks, he's just not in good form at the moment.

All the above is from September!

As much criticism Tony V gets, I dont understand why we leave him so isolated on the wing. Am I alone in recognising this?

Don't sell him, keep him as our second choice right back.

Not getting this as he has been easily our best winger for last couple of seasons often carrying us through periods and arguably the best in the league during this time. He's had a very poor season but I'm sure he'll come again he'll not be the first player to have had one. Plus even when he is off form he totally nullifies the man he is up against great player to have in our squad with his attitude and versatility love him!

I don't like Smalling or Jones at RB personally and once Fabio returns hopefully we won't have to see it again.

Don't understand how a single player can decline so fast. What has happens to his blistering pace tanking through r left backs?
