Antonio Valencia | 2013/14 Performances

Maybe he was hoping Guardiola would put in a cheeky bid for him.

Seriously though, nice to see Valencia play so well, Im sure he will still be here next season, if you make a list of players who do definitely seem to be in Moyes' plans he is one of the first you would put on that list, so I hope we see him put in a lot more performances like that next season, it was the Valencia of old.

It is unfair to say he kept losing the ball in the first half, considering there was no bloody movement from united players! He had very very little to work with.

From what I remember he was also doubled up by the Bayern defenders more often than not.

Hes not the player he was when he won player of the season, but he's been exponentially better in the last month than he was for the past season and a half.

What a beast. Easily better than Kagawa and Rooney tonight. There's still a player in him.

Easy. Kagawa was fairly brilliant last night, the only player of ours that looked like he could fit into the Bayern side.

Antonio Valencia has hit out at his lack of game time under David Moyes, writes Steve Bates in the Sunday People.

The Manchester United winger has started 18 league matches this season, but feels he could have made a bigger impact on their desperately disappointing campaign if the boss had shown more faith in him.

Valencia said of this season with the Reds: “I would like to have more minutes. I would like to have a more important role here. In fact, I would have liked to have more importance inside the team.

“But I have not been given the chance. I hope next season will be better for me as well as for Man United.”

I thought he got enough minutes to show he doesn't deserve to start matches.

Surely those quotes aren't real? Words fail me if they are.

I thought he got enough minutes to show he doesn't deserve to start matches.

Do we know if the quotes are real or not yet? If they are, it is absolutely ridiculous. For the majority of games this season, he has not shown any reason why he should start week in week out, yet he still has had 39 Apps.

If anything he has had too many, considering his lack of end product and goals.

He's actually in the top 3 of most appearances under Moyes this season.

If those quotes are real (I have my doubts) but if they are, he can feck off.

The mirror is as unreliable as any other tabloid when it comes to sports news but I wouldn't think they'd pass off fake quotes as the truth.

If the quotes are true it shows a stunning lack of self awareness from Mr Valencia.

He's had far too many minutes these past couple of seasons, and stunk the place out for almost every one of them as well.

"I've not been given a chance"

is also what our strikers say every time Valencia gets a full 90 on the right wing.

Didn't he say after his last season, which already was pretty shit, that he was happy with his performances?

That was the moment where I realized that Tony had forgotten he played football and wasn't actually a track and field athlete.

They must be fake quotes. He seems to love United, and he's played 39 games this season. In the last two seasons, he played 38 and 40 games respectively. 5 games left this season, I reckon he will feature in 2 or 3 of those. That would put him at a maximum of 42. He could even play all 5, which would be 44 games. He's only had 2 seasons in his entire career where he's played more than 40 games. 09/10 with us, 46 games, and 2004 with El Nacional, 49 games. [wiki].

Could anyone realistically complain about a lack of game time with a tally of 40+ games? Sounds like shite.

Valencia's performances have been a mixture of bang-average and poor for the past 2 seasons, but he still strikes me as an all round good bloke. His poor performances are saddening, but I still love the guy.

Tabloid shite. We've been an easy target all season. They probably realised they'd not dished an shit about Tony V yet.

Seems so unlike Valencia to actually say something in the first place, let alone something that isn't true at all. I feel like something got lost in translation. Maybe when he said he'd like to be given more importance in the team, meaning he'd want to show his best more often and be better overall to become an important player to the team? That would seem more like him. I doubt he said he hasn't got minutes though, because he clearly has.

We played some of our most dangerous and best football post-Ronaldo for the short time that both him and Nani were fit and on form. The first 40 or so minutes in 2010 vs Bayern was just phenomenal wing play of the highest quality. Too bad we haven't seen anything like that from either of them for a while.

Here are quotes from interviews given in Spanish to Ecuadorian press that follows him closely (link: http://www.futbolecuador.com/stories/publica/43770). These sound much more like Valencia than the ones mentioned above:

“Un poco triste por la eliminación, no la esperábamos pero hay que seguir trabajando. Quedan cinco partidos (de la Premier) y debemos darlo todo. Triste por la hinchada de Manchester, que es muy fiel con el equipo y siempre nos apoya”, comentó Luis Antonio Valencia este viernes, conversando con radio La Deportiva sobre su actualidad en Inglaterra.

"A bit sad about the elimination, we didn't expect it but we have to keep working. There are 5 Premier games left and we have to give it all. Sad for the Manchester fans, they are very loyal to the team and always support us"

“No voy a ver ninguno de los partidos porque me da mucha pena que no esté Manchester (en semifinales). Favorito (entre el Bayern Múnich, el Real Madrid, el Chelsea o el Atlético de Madrid) no tengo ninguno, espero que gane el mejor y sea una competición muy buena como lo ha venido siendo”, expresó.

"I'm not going to watch any of the semifinals because I'm too sad that Manchester is not in it. I have no favorite among the remaining teams, hopefully the best team wins and it's a good competition like always".

About his future at United. "I have another year on my contract, all I think about is finishing well these last 5 matches of the season and what is coming with the National Team. I would like to stay in Manchester and if that doesn't happen, I would like to stay in England".

"

I like Valencia, he's had a tough time getting back to his best after the injury but he never gives anything less than 100%. He has had more than enough game time this year though based on his form and if players like him are now turning on Moyes then he truly is losing the dressing room.

Sorry but what?! If Valencia thinks he didn't get enough minutes.....

I can't think of a way to continue that sentence that expresses how shocked I am that Valencia actually thinks that!

Only moyes could have a player start so many games and still make him feel like he's not getting a chance

i don't think he said that.

Interesting he wants to stay, and at very least in England. I always thought he would be perfect at Juventus.

Irrespective of how genuine the article is, he's still on my exit list! In fact he's the first winger I want to go! Just doesn't give anywhere near enough end product for us. Hard worker, seems like a decent guy but I'm all of those too and can't get a run out for my local team on the RW, never mind Manchester United.

I'd like to see him stay. He's not good enough to be nailed on in our side but he'd be a good option to have in the squad. We can't sell all of our fecking players; or are we supposed to buy back ups as well as starters?

He should be limited to 15 appearances next season. No more fannying around with underperforming players. I doubt he said that though.

He shouldn't be more than a backup at right back the way he's played during the past 3 seasons.

Very strange and out of character! Doubt it's real but this has been some season so who knows!

Can't be real quotes. Firstly, he'd never say that, and secondly, he's been given more than enough chances.
