Another mercenary looking for one last payday. Must be desperate if he's resorting to using us.
What makes him a mercenary? Due to the current ownership Chelsea cannot offer him a new contract if i am not mistaken.Another mercenary looking for one last payday. Must be desperate if he's resorting to using us.

I‘d gladly pay him €12m per year on a four year contract if he fits what my manager wants to do
This does not match RR’s views on finding hungry players ready to take the next step. This would be more like an old Woodward special. Don’t want it to happen for that reason.
Yeah but he just becomes a problem on the wage bill then...like Sanchez and Cavani and even now Varane by the looks of it. Then you get the young defenders playing well threatening not to renew unless they get paid close to the main man. These types of signings raise the stakes for the rest of the squad. Ronny was somewhat worth the risk. I’d prefer if he was the last.We have too many positions to fill. Players on a free or on one year contracts will be interesting for us, as the fees will be low and we can save some funds for other positions.
Fair point, we only burnt our fingers so far.Another mercenary looking for one last payday. Must be desperate if he's resorting to using us.
I’ve been listening to Rio’s podcasts a lot and one thing both him and Anton keep harping on about is the communication and organization - which obviously we lack at the moment.
I know it’s different systems (2 at the back and 3 at the back) but if I remember correctly, Rudiger only started being the player he is now, since Thiago Silva came in. He’s known to be an excellent organizer and reader - so could it be that he is performing now due to Silva, as opposed to just being in a back 3? Pure question, I don’t watch them enough to back my claims
A backup? Seriously ? he’s not going anywhere to be a backup. He will come to Madrid. We need a quality backup to Alaba and Militao.
His wages would be through the roof. Although I feel he and Dembouz would be great free transfers, I can see us signing them without them being amongst pur highest earners.

There is no problem for players looking for last big pay check, as long as they have the professionalism like CR7 and give their best every game. Just take a look at Thiago Silva for Chelsea, it is a huge success for them.Every footballer is a mercenary. It's not like he grew up in Berlin with pictures of Dennis Wise and Graeme Le Saux on his wall.
The issue is his motivation levels and hunger for further success, that's always in doubt with a player who is looking for his last big contract and has already won most of the big trophies at club level.

Don't really get it. He'll be moving to be a starter and Militao and Alaba have been fine so who misses out?
Seen this potential lineup being floated
Honestly could work quite well, decent balance in all areas. That's one of the luxuries of having a Swiss army knife type of player like Alaba, he can play at LB, CB, CM/LM or holding mid effectively if required.
It seems strange that they suddenly start playing with 3 in the back to fit a player. I see more realistic to move Alaba to the LB and maybe sell MendySeen this potential lineup being floated
